So how many others out there (quite a few i would imagine) Find themselves sat with a beer on eBay convincing themselves what ever it is they are looking at is what they really need.
Wife's gone out for tonight and in the last hour I've looked at r5 gtt, series 1 rs turbos, sierra cosworths, drift cars of all sorts to name a few.
So how many others have gone that one step further and done the purchase to then think twice??
Whilst on the subject my latest build project in readers rides started off as a few beers on a Saturday night in November 2014 followed by a couple of texts to my partner in crime daz and a cross country journey to buy the frame.
Any how beers and the Internet in general how many of us have made purchases that maybe we wouldn't have done. (Car related)

Oddly enough I had already spotted that Volvo lorry despite having no knowledge of lorries or anything close...... it's just something about an old commercial vehicle that tempts me...... always looking, no beer required, purchasing not so much these days.........

I tend to add stuff to my watch list (mostly tool or machinery related) that I can't afford or will take a while to save up for When I've had a few beers I always seem to talk myself into buying something off the desirable list and convincing myself I can get away with it going un-noticed by SWMBO. I even have the goods delivered to parents or mates houses but she still finds out eventually.

I don't need beer! Bought a lwb Vauxhall Frontera from Folkstone (400 mile round trip) several years ago. Got a lift down with a mate & drove it home with no mot, only firing on 3 cylinders. Worst car I have ever owned. 20mpg if drove steady, broke down once I got it home. Made money on it but only just. Was glad to see the back of it. Also drove my van to York (360 mile round trip) to buy an old Yamaha FZ750 that never ran right. Lost money on that.. . I still love eBay though!

He's got a turbo powered summit or other any how,he's also got a milling machine lovely water cooled tig proper tube bender etc etc. Anything he buys apparently according to his Mrs is £50!!! Engines turbos tyres carbon fibre panels mills etc etc So now when ever he goes on about anything he's brought we always comment that it's a bargain (with it being £50) I'm terrible at it. Popped to Buckley near Wrexham 2 weeks ago on a Monday night just over and hour from me. To fetch some van racking for when I go racing. Remember thinking on the way there after a curse word day at work. Why does it always seem like a good idea at the time

My Cortina was a beer fueled purchase, as is my latest Polo Coupe. If it wasn't for the beer I wouldn't have put in as high a bid haha.

No beer involved but during a very quiet night shift I made a cheeky very low offer on a '95 E36 320i Touring which had been re-advertised after not seling the previous day. Offer accepted. Picked it up the following weekend and it's been the best d/d I've had in years. Nearly 2 years on it's still doing a sterling job.

I don't need beer to convince myself that I need to buy pretty much any old coolish car I'm offered. I currently have a very rough mk1 capri and a volvo 480T that I have no time to even move back to mine, never mind do anything with. Yet they were both opportunities that I apparently couldn't miss at the time of purchase.

About 5 years ago it was somewhere between Christmas and new year. I was fairly hammered on the beer and I suggested to my lass that I fancied getting another pickup truck, mainly for moving motorbikes around. I started looking and within an hour I'd found a ford ranger single cab with the long bed. It was up at over £1000 with a make an offer button. I thought I would go in at £700 expecting to get an auto email back saying no, and from there I could could talk to the seller and meet on a price. So I hit £700 and it came straight up saying congratulations the seller has accepted your offer.
After staring at the screen for 5 minutes. I called over to my lass and said "I think I'm going to need you to give me a lift to Manchester" she was puzzled and then I followed up with "I've bought a truck on eBay" so in the middle of the holiday I had to sort insurance and go get it.
Another one, not car related. Well over 10 years ago when people were just starting to go on the net and eBay was becoming big. I was again quite merry on the beer, looking on eBay. I left the pc alone for a few days and didn't go on it. The postman knocked on the door with a package for me. A bit confused I opened it up and there was a metal tin plate robot inside which I must have ordered in the early hours while popped up.

I had to ween myself off a fairly bad ebay & carandclassic habit. I just spent all my free time creating shortlists of wants and needs.
I rarely ever look now. I don't even think about it any more.
Now I have though, I'm going to go and have a quick look.

I got drunk and chucked a bid on a twin turbo manual 300zx expecting it to sell for £3k ish, won it for £1600. Great! Turns out it was in Liverpool, I'm in Portsmouth, it was a cat c needing a vic check before it could be taxed and the buyer needed it collecting within 2 weeks so couldn't even book it in for a local vic check.
£50 for a train up, agreed with transported to get a lift back with the car, transporter said his boss said I couldn't get a lift so the £300 transporting cost me an additional £150 in train fairs to get back that day too!
Less of a bargain than it seemed haha

I actually went a step further and bought a project Beetle from my hospital bed whilst on on-demand morphine...
I managed to get it delivered when I got home and it was, without doubt, the worst one I have ever seen. The good news is that I put it straight back on ebay with an honest description and got back what I had paid for it.

Ahahahaha.
Morphine in the mix could be hilarious.
Or... disastrous, as the case may be.
I have never bid on anything that I can't reach comfortably within half a day and which doesn't promise to be up tot he task of making the return journey. I guess I'm a bit of a lightweight in that respect. I like stuff that looks like it's living mere inches from the crusher, but I want it to run and present as few challenges as possible in the first few months of ownership.
