Figured I'd start a thread of my intended restoration/modification of my latest purchase.
Even if noone else reads it, it will serve as a record of what a did.
This will be the first time I've done this, I normally work on bikes and have several projects underway (13 bikes and only two on the road at the last count)
I originally had a modified Renault Trafic - 6 seater day van come camper come load lugger - but this got written off, a short spell in my wife's old car soon saw me looking for another van - hence my latest addition to the garage.
Having always fancied an old ford (they were new when I was growing up) to modify I started the hunt for a clean petrol P100
Much searching saw me fly up to Scotland earlier in the year and drive 610 miles home - handbrake that wouldn't release (just left it parked in gear) and a few electrical gremlins (no headlights just sidelights, in the dark, in the snow! - a quick pit stop at the services and after checking all the fuses and bulbs I cut the supply to the sidelights and fed it into the headlights instead) otherwise a rather good shakedown, oh and the heating is useless, probably not helped by there not being a headlining and the temperatures being sub zero.
It only had 62000 miles on the clock, rather clean bodywork, a couple of cracked plastic light lenses, but lousy interior
- never mind as I have a 92 2.0 DOHCi Sierra Ghia estate as a donor - my brother kindly creased the chassis some ten years ago and it's been parked up ever since
- he also bought a replacement when he did this a 89 2.9 V6 4x4 GLS Sierra hatch - again it's been parked for 10 years, but it's mine for the pickings
- fortunately my cousin owed me a favour as they were both behind this lot which he cleared out!
And as a bonus the 2.9 ran with only a jump battery fitted!
So I have many plans, limited budget and too many projects in the go, so things will happen verrrrry slowly here I'm afraid. But there is a vague plan of action.
1. Sort out electrics and handbrake
2. Sort out interior - including getting more heat!
3. Tune the 2.0 pinto
all whilst the truck is on the road as I need to be able to collect bikes/parts - the main reason I "need" this
later on
4. Fit the 2.9 V6 4x4 running gear and tune that! But this will involve taking her off the road as the rear chassis rails will need modifying to take the independent rear suspension set up instead of the live axle and leaf spring set up that it's currently fitted with
