Well, not all of them are super. Some are quite run of the mill when compared to the rest of the yard's offerings. But I digress. Last Saturday was a rainy, hungover affair that involved me having to drive to Wigan to take some pictures of a Mondeo. That's not the important bit. The important bit comes in the form of realising the Mondeo was located mere yards from this, er, yard. Douglas Valley breakers to be precise. It's a company I'm aware of, but I didn't realise they were so close to Mondeo man. Douglas Valley is the sanctuary for the last moments of many a Bentley, Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, TVR, Rolls and many more. Stacked seemingly to the sky with cars that many of us would have had as posters on our bedroom walls back in the day. As I understand it, most are Cat A or B, which makes sense when you see the state they're in. According to the owner, it's big business. These cars are worth as much in parts as they are as full cars. That's because unlike a bent Focus or 308, people will actually buy a damaged Ferrari bonnet or a twisted Porsche Turbo alloy. They're arty, apparently. It was a surreal morning, seeing all this exotica that had been forcibly bent and contorted into new, exciting, albeit involuntary shapes. I'd have tried to get more snaps, but the rain was relentless and I started to fear for my camera after a while. Anyway, that's enough waffle. Here are some pictures... Chris

I saw a yard very similar to this (could be this one) on TV a few weeks ago. The owner was bidding on a Ferrari GT car which had been binned. Think he won it for about £12K and there was no guarantee it would even start. That's how much money is in the parts!

When I worked in parts we had a few things from Douglas Valley for our customers, the one that sticks in my head was an engine from a Bentley continental gt, they were great and removed it quickly, the only problem was our customer paid us for using 2 credit cards then claimed his cards had been stolen

One can barely imagine what the A-Team could create if they were stuck in there for a week.

Its less than five miles from me. I tried to buy an S2000 as a donor car for a project and they didn't even bother to answer the emails.

Fantastic pictures thanks for sharing!
Looks like a real treasure trove of exotica.
Hope you don't mind but 'bent Ferrari space saver' is my new desktop background.

Ha, knock yourself out!
There was so much more to see. Skylines, Mustangs, Mercedes, it was all high end clobber. Sad really, but fascinating at the same time.

They're over priced on a lot of their stock, and not particularly amiable on the 'phone. It gets a bit better if you turn up and ask, but I wouldn't beat a second path to their door if I could help it.

I've come across some of their bits a few times. I think they even advertise in the Porsche magazine, quite a large advert if I remember rightly, maybe even a whole page. Always look at the photos to try and spot something interesting.

Interesting place but overpriced (massively) and ignorant...
Nice set of photos!

It tells me something about a kind of owner the Boxter attracts. Maybe because i went to a French car breakers a few years ago, to find the place choc-block full of crashed Citroen Saxo VTR's. And this is why we can't have nice things.

My dad used to take me there for days out as a child! Across the road they have a couple of halls of salvage cars, some run of the mill and some very very special. I remember seeing a Renault 5 Turbo 2 in the salvage part years and years ago.
