had a quick peruse under Moni today at my buddy's (actual trusted buddy this time!) garage and it is mixed news! misc clonk i was hearing due to the fact that the springs on the front have been seated differently... will take them all of and put back together again. correctly. the offside balljoint is knackered, which cant be helping much and the rad is worn out (not a surprise, it was only OK when it went in last year!) otherwise OK!
ahh old cars!!! :-)

Nice one just MOT'd mine on 123066 miles cheers bud nice one yourself, and you've got 20k miles less than me! out of interest what headight bulbs have you got? mine are bleeding dull! No idea TBH although the inner lenses are starting to yellow, i do have a new pair and i was going to upgrade to LED but a mate has a set of morrettes that i gave him years ago (when i was into cortinas big time and thought mondeos wern't worth a toss) that he's digging out, he has the passenger side set so i'm waiting to see if the other side turns up before i decide what to do. I know that some bulbs will yellow the lenses quicktime unless they are U/V filterd, similar issue to why modern cars plastic headlamps fade, mine are pretty weak as well though, well defined but only at 30 feet or so from the car not exactly far reaching, the Exs mk6 escort is better, i have to do something but i'm sorting the ST front disc swap at the mo, so will get onto it soon

I do like the morrettes tbh, google them and a silver hatch wearing them looked quite tasty. however I think they would be to 'flashy' for my old bus! i think i may go LED at somepoint, but settling for buying the brightest bulbs i can find for now!

I do like a successful scrapyard hunt!! One basically brand new Mondeo radiator, not bad for a tenner. bit of extra fun by way of the fact that I got to drive the x1/9 for the first time in a while, and she behaved impeccably! funnily enough if I take the little fiat near the scrapyard it always behaves, just in case perhaps!

bit of a score there ! i wish we had propper scrap yards nowdays, i do miss a good rumadge There's some good vids on youtube compairing LED lamps to standard, i've allways wonderd how the inside lense would take to HID, it's a bit close to the bulb so LED would be great as they produce most of thier heat on the rear outside the lamp body.

I love proper scrappies too, i guess they are a dying breed though. health and safety blows (says the lawyer!) I remember standing ontop of three cars, reaching over a 2 or 3 foot gap to another stack of three cars to get some bits of an old clio, fun times! my local scrappy up here is this one www.harrybuckland.co.uk/default.asp the family still run it, and are good for a chat. Only problem is, if they get a cool car they wont scrap they leave it out for a while to taunt you whilst they decide to keep or sell! (currently a mk2 fiesta and an early nissan patrol in this section!) Sounds interesting, I will have a butchers at the vids. Sounds like one of us mondeo peeps on here is gonna have to try the LED upgrade and report!

not too much to report, lots of miles being munched up only thing of a little note is that moni decided to have a permanent wink bit inconvenient, however a quick ebay search turned up a new, in box old stock item, delivered to my door the following day for a tenner not bad, a quick 5-minute little fix and we're back motoring with a full set of eyes! only thing now is, i have a very bright indicator!

It's great to see a Mondy getting some love but at the same time being regularly used. I use mine daily too.
How are you rear arches holding out? I can see tiny little rust patches starting to come though my off side rear quarter arch...bad times.

Mine are starting to go tbh... sad times indeed. The nearside one isnt too bad, but the offside one has really suffered over this winter. In the cars past a lot of filler has been applied.... its cracking quite badly. arches are on my to-do list tbh, I have just got to save the pennies! I have already got the repair panels for both arches (still stored under offspring the smallers bed! ) hopefully a job for this summer.

This is crying out for a polish! Hey, she was polished and waxed just under a fortnight ago!😜 by the friendly people at sainsburys 😊 to be fair the bonnet goes pink very quickly, the nearside doors are not the originals (car was aparently side swiped whilst in a garage, though before my ownership) and they are pretty pink too, i think they may have been a different shade of red to begin with (paint code says moni was garnet red). Shes on duty too much for a polish anyway! Actually, must admit i have never polished my own car... driving it is better! ☺

Reasons for failure:
1) exhaust has major leak of gas (centre) - so will have to trace and see what can be done. 2)dangerous tie rod play 3)all the body filler PO slapped everywhere hasnt survived the heat and has tottally disintegrated..

Seems about normal for a Mk1 (unfortunatly), actually that was quite a good lobjob, obv an old boy with manly man skills in filler and bodge and not in wleding TBH to be fair to the old thing it is still on it origional sills and would allways have needed some soon, shame it's now but they aint to expensive it the gluing them on that costs but do all the prep like cutting them off and then get somoone to just stick them on and it's no so bad on the wallet chin up chap, unfortunatly it's A-old and B-a ford so it was allways going to breakout like a teenager after a kebab at some point

It is the joy of an old Ford for sure :-P timing is pretty bad though, just recently lost job and seperated from missus... so need the wheels! The old ford was the only fleet survivor, so lets hope the gluing can be done quickly and not too expensively! Have traced the exhaust hole, a wee one about 3/4 of an inch just at the front joint of the centre box, maybe able to patch it? Never patched an exgaust i usually replace them when the go so new territory! Ah the joys...
