more parts gathering.... I have decided to enjoy and keep driving her as she is for now, ahead of a planned resto in around 10k miles... she was recently subjected to a free comprehensive vehicle check at a local ford garage (I was happy with her after my own assessment, but a free expert opinion is always helpful). came back with one missing reverse light bulb, and one slightly worn rear brake hose. woo not bad for a 22yo ford! guy was impressed with the solidity and lack of rust tho did start chatting about the slight bubbling around the offside wheel arch. this has been previously repaired.. not really to my ideal standards tbh, wee bit of filler... not bad atm tho, however in line with the future plans i ordered these (pic off the bay of E...) not a bad price, and arrived the next day! and as the estate different to the hatch and saloon I am led to believe, I am quite pleased with my find more car parts to store in the safe location (under my little ones cot :-P)

Back in the day they only fitted 1 reverse bulb, for some reason the opposite side to the fog lamp ? even my ex's 97 escort only had the 1 from the factory ??

Not much to report in mondeo world again, just being driven everyday :-) still on the hunt fir a replacement offside wing after it was dented... in the meanwhile the dent had been bugging me, but no time to take inner wing off and try sort it. Anyhow a mate had his clio hit, and someone suggested go use a plunger to pull the dents out. Oh how we laughed. More fools we it bloody well worked! I ran off to fetch the ford and yep out popped the dent! I mean its obv not perfect, the little scratches and smaller ding remain but a big improvement in an instant with a tesco store (new) plunger! Now I am led to believe this is an old trick, but I had never heard of it, bt hey its a good trick! And as my ford is 'patinated' it fits in well!

Hmmm... start engine, revs, lift clutch and no go.. like starting in third! Throttle hard down hardly any revs... get her going (down the hill) and after 5mins she drives like normal! Anybody and thoughts? Hopefully nothing compression related/fuel pump.. perhaps throttle cable? Too dark to check now tho so job for the morning I guess!

First thing i do on a diesel is air and fuel filter, unless you know they are new change them, split boost hoses don't tend to get better but allways worth a check, also check the waistgate actuator on the turbo i've known them to stick open but usually when hot not from cold ? Did the engine start ok ?

Hi bortaf. Air was my latest thought, someone had similar issue when their car was facing up hill which mine also was... turbo hose is a recent one but will check, and yeah she started fine!

went to her today, and she started as usual without a hitch. this leads me to the conclusion that it has something to do with her yesterday being parked facing up a hill.. (feel free to correct if I am taking roobeesh). investigation due when it stops peedling it down!

Well, I think there is air in the fuel system.. filling up, pump keeps clicking off and I hear a gurgling sound. Take pump out and diesel all bubbles out of the tank! (and all over my shoes... I like the smell of diesel, my missus not so much. my shoes are now relegated to outside.) Undid the fuel filler cap after drive hone (a mile at best)and defo air escaping. Thinking filter change and system bleeding in order. Unless any other thoughts occur to anyone? This may also explain the hill start issue as that was shortly after a fill-up. On another note have sourced some alloys. .. :-)

There's a stupid plunger on top of the pump that draws in air I just ran a Vauxhall filter & housing with a Peugeot type plunger in the fuel line to draw up fuel if I ran it out.

Sorry to hear about the diesel problem, I'm certainly no expert but I'd start with a filter change, it's cheap and will benefit the car regardless. I had a quick read on the net and it suggested that the fuel lines might have tiny holes in that are sucking air into the system and indeed the seals on the filter might be on the way out.
Oooooo new wheels you say, what have you gone for? Any pics?

I think a filter change will be on the cards asap fortunately MOT time is due end of July, so i was planning a comprehensive service anyway hopefully that will show the source whatever it is thanks for advice! Oooooo new wheels you say, what have you gone for? Any pics? aaah wheel wise I went for these: they are of sierra XR4x4 so I believe, and cost £40 for the set! I quite like them atm, i think they are fairly understated~? and as they are going on a patinated estate i think that would be be fitting. what do you guys think? will post a pic when they are on for some expert opinions! I like the wheels you have on your mondy quattromanta btw! (looks ace, has quite a presence to it!) i looked at similar styles, but my car isnt as minty

The rims will need a bit of a refurb to make mint, but as they are seem pretty good all things considered. one has a nik that needs sorting (spare anyway) and only one tyre is really decent. so thats a job for the weekend too!

Great choice of wheel, I even had these actual wheels on my 'watch list' when I was having second thoughts about fitting my alloys. They're a real bargain and I love the fact you haven't gone for aftermarket wheels.
Looking forward to seeing them fitted.

Wheels are on :-) pretty pleased tbh :-) photo to follow when I can find a functioning laptop... anyway, I put the girl is r her mot today (not actually out until the end of July but I get twitchy so always throw in early) and alas she failed. One day I will get a car through first time.. not to bad though, brakes out of balance across the rear axle, and a small hole in sill. I was planning on overhauling rear drums as offside was a bit prone to sticking lately, will get them apart tomorrow for a quick spruce up and hopefully no horros. As for the hole, should cost me 15/20 quid to get it welded by me helpful tame polish welder guy. However the question is, shall I do the new arches too...? Or get ticket then worry about arches later? The po has used far to much filler, looks ok and in line etc at first glance however is starting to crack which really bugs me... ihate filler. ah decisions!

Right, few bits to report over the last week or so! firstly got the new wheels on the ol' grl, look alright imo! secondly, sorted the MOT. quick inspecton of the offside rear brake identified the cause of the brake imbalance, one knackered wheel cylinder. so got that sorted, then had the small (but hugely irritating) sill hole welded and off she went to return wth a completely clean ticket! think there is some inner steering joint play, which will be addressed idc, but not an advisory! now i was hoping to get the arches replaced, however my usual welder guy is n poland until late august... who said he could have a holiday!? so f anyone knows a good (but cheap!) bodywork guy who could do the job, somewhere near glos i could be interested! ether-way, very happy to have another year of mot! the old mondy is a rather capable car, and i am very fond of her!

Moni even got a car show appearance! now i was hoping to head to pod, but was a bit skint! and tbh really fancied a local show! so went to the frst running of a retro show at chelt races, which all in all was good! could have been bigger but for a first year was ok! went wth my daughter (Roisin), met some real good people to chat too, and some cool cars! (205's, zegato zimp, hot rods, sierra cosworths, loads of old fords and hot J stuff, p6 estate, really cool old corrola.... racing sd1s etc) There was also a funfair, now R enjoyed the cars but this was a fact about which said 2yo daughter was rather pleased! i probably spent more on games and rides than a return trip to the moon but hey ho! worth every penny (we won three stuffed toys!)as R loved her day, as did i so i am more than happy! (though this was 2 weeks ago now and this allknackered me out so much i think i have nearly just about recovered! a 2 story high bouncy slde was most popular, however as she's a wee little one R was carried up over my shoulder. shame that the inflatable stairs aren't desined for size 11 feet... got 2 foot from the top three times... R slid down, giggling her bum off, whilst i went down like homer simpson off a cliff. and i was wearing shorts. hmmm... treasured memories!) anyway, a photo to prove the mondy went to a show (yes, thats the boss in the photo!) , and another of one of the many cars that attracted our attention..
