so after selling the Porsche 912 to a certain forum member (mainly as...I'm not a huge fan of Porsches and thought I should get one project finished before starting another...) I'm now having tinges of 'sellers remorse'. That being said....I am now looking at either a 1971 3L Marcos GT that needs a new roof because a tree fell on it....or an unlisted..top secret...1969? Mk1 Cooper S that is in parts...spread all around a farm in various barns. Both are full restos. The Marcos would be one giant phallic GT tourer eligible for classic racing...the mini would be a gloss black, 10" Watanabe shod beauty. I can picture them both, I'm just having trouble deciding. Thoughts?

Thats a tough one, A Marcos, or a Mini?
Marcos - Needs new roof, Short term project (possibly) Mini - Long project
You might get more joy out of doing the Mini, yes It may take a long time, full of frustration. But when its finished, you can stand back as say "Yep, I did all of that!"
If it was me, id go for the Mini!

You should get the Mini ... and get the Marcos on a boat to me... This was my greatest fear. Being known as 'get hold of that guy in Canada who will find you a cool car for cheap and then sell you it' I have a horrible knack for it

Mini. No question. I am of course biased as I've had three, my ex had one, and I've always had at least one BMC car since I got my licence in 1983.

No matter what you do to it, a Mini is a mini and there are thousands, no, millions of the things! The Marcos is as rare as hens teeth mixed with poor quality wobbly children's play pony poop, goes like stink, sounds gorgeous and looks the mutts nuts. It's a no brainer, Marcos FTW!

Marcos - as discussed Minis, while undeniably cool and desirable (I certainly want one!) they aren't exactly thin on the ground, and if you want one in the future its likely you will be able to get hold of one relatively easy
The Marcos on the other hand, if you miss this one, who knows when you'll see another!

But you can drive a mini balls-out everywhere and mostly get away with it. It is a practical everyday use car too which for those of us who can't afford to have a lot of different cars all road legal at the same time is a big plus. You can even park it on the street without becoming paranoid, at least where I live you can. Guess the real answer depends on whether you want to drive it a lot or put it in your private museum and only bring it out on fine Summer Sundays.

The only real answer when faced with such agony of indecision just has to be 'both':-)

Marcos for me, but the finished mini would possibly be more worth if it is a genuine Cooper S

For me it would be the Marcos.
However, for you I think the Mini would be a better choice.
You will soon have a RWD sports car in the stable and it might be nice to have some variety in there in terms of driven wheels and driving experience.
Also, "quick build"... Parts for the Mini are so easy to get you don't need to think just order. I can see the Marcos presenting far more time consuming and expensive problems.
