My buddies Clement & grenade had suggested I start a thread about my '84 Maserati Biturbo. As you'd imagine...it's a turd..and I'll post pics when I get home later.......but really it's damn near identical to Grenades car. No joke, same car, same color........only my car's motor isn't shot, I rebuilt the carb, it's running surprisingly well actually *shocker* So plans for the car.........here goes... ....ha, what plans. I think mice were living in it at some point, when I pulled the dash there were a ton of acorn shells under the radio. Speaking of which, the "Maserati Brand Tape Deck" works!!!! No a/c, no PS, no remaining interior that isn't sun damaged......but dudes, the tape deck works and yesterday I was in the garage, started it, got the glasspacks blaring out of the garage while I bumped some Morrisey......it's the only tape I had.......Really if I bumped Morrisey, would he cry or would he hit me in the face, I bet the later. So anyways, be on the lookout for some interesting failures as I get ready to drive this thing down the street to get Gasoline......if it keeps going that'd be neat, doesn't mean I'm ending my towing service though!!!!! Clement & Hirst , here you go friends, new vid! Regards, Todd

If you can get it on the road and make it drivable, that's a giant feat in itself. Best of luck either way!

My buddy sold my Maserati tape deck for almost 500 USD. I suggest you get it on ebay right now. Those working tape decks bring big bucks because they fit in the Meraks.

Hahaha this thread is off to a very good start Man that car sounds nice, I was thinking about starting my car without an exhaust when I tackle the clutch to have an idea what silencing is needed, I'm swaying towards NONE AT ALL. It really sounds like a big V8, which is quite funny given that it's more akin to a high-strung small-capacity Italian engine. I can't wait to see more pics!

A VH45DE is a Nissan V8 engine. What transmissions are available for that plant? Does it have a front sump? Sounds like you've got a ton of fabricating work ahead of you. You'd better just give that car to me and I'll put it on top of a Jeep chassis...

After I made that video, I tack welded on glasspacks just to take the edge off while I was running it at the house. I was surprised how much it toned it down, it took all of the raspiness out of the exhaust, sounds pretty good I think...........it'll sound better when the exhaust is out from under the car.

I think it should be a Ranger however...mopars break transmissions......you and your Dodges!!!

smithsidebar > do you think it would be doable to run the car somewhat daily without silencers at all? I might be redoing the exhaust entirely, just so I can modify it with off the shelf stainless tubing as the original steel exhaust uses stupid* 50mm diameter tubes. *in reality it's wayyy more stupid to do 21/27/33/42/48/etc millimeter tubes but that's a debate for another time

I'll go 2 into 1. The exhaust on my car is laughable right now, but I just needed to quiet it a little, the glass packs are only tack welded on. I added an updated video, it's at the bottom of the first post. I may try to drive it tomorrow, I need to get gas in it anyways, Ill use my GoPro this time

That is a living breathing Maserati, for sure. It's fun when you can have a crazy project car. I'm shocked that the turbos are working!

Told you man......nothing that ultrasonic cleaning a carb cant fix Turbos are spooling and are alive. Over the winter I plan on pulling them and replacing them with a single turbo when I convert it to TBI or do something with the ole' Megasquirt! There's always a possibility of adding an RB25 or RB26........we'll see.....

If you take the engine out of this you have to put it into something completely left field, like a Suzuki Swift or something. It's incredibly short but very wide so it would fit in perfectly in the back of a small hatchback. JUST SAYING.
On the other hand, and I keep saying that, but the engine is the best bit of the entire car hands down. The body is nice enough but rusts and isn't all that fancy, the suspension is just BMW stuff thrown together hastily, the gearbox feels like stirring a fork through pebbles, the interior is nice but yours is dead, but the engine (once Maserati made it reliable) is absolutely wonderful.

The suspension is damn near identical to my Z31 I built years ago........so getting things tightened up in the rearend will be relatively easy I think. I'm planning on dropping the subframe and the arms up front and figuring out bushings this winter. Yeah.......worse comes to worse..........some ridiculous power plant. grenade and I had discussed turning it into a 4x4 or throwing a B5 audi drivetrain in it! I added some pictures of it to the first thread.
