Despite the pants weather, quite a few fans of old Ford vehicles found their way to Santa Pod today for the Classic Ford Show. I was there and I took photos. There now follows a selection of pictures documenting the aforementioned event. Some of them are a bit arty, sorry. Roofs up ladies! It's raining. One of my faves from the show. I'd been looking at it a while, taking in all of the details: the arches, that exhaust, the wheels, the paint - and it was all impressive. Then I peered under the slightly raised bonnet... Holy longitudinal placement Batman! It's a rear-driver. That's gotta be a whole heap of fun. Loony drift-rod. Vroom, whoosh, screech etc. ...and the award for dishy RS fourspoke fitment perfection goes to...

A MkII so good that even blatant reverse-rake couldn't make it look bad. You'd never get away with that on a MkIII Did I get a picture of this immaculate Mk1 Escort this BDA-alike Zetec motor resided in? No, I didn't. I've let you all down.

Two-tone paint? Contrasting pinstripe? Could this be the physical embodiment of this thread? Is this yours stuartp? If this were an episode of CSI, you could enhance the reflection in this Anglia tail light surround and catch the murderer. It's not CSI though, so just look at the car and ignore the people, they're innocent. Move along, nothing to see here. Wide steels were more popular than ever this year. Interestingly, of the five 'great unveiling' cars, all but one had wide steels with chrome hubcaps. This tasty Mk2 isn't one of the great unveiling cars. Nice though, innit?

I regret not looking more closely at this car. All I can tell you is that it looked like you wouldn't want to mess with it, but you can see that for yourself anyway. In my opinion, four-door Mk2 Escorts look best in full Ghia trim. Leave the sporty connotations and rallyist arch shenanigans to the two-doors, the four-doors are are going with the sophisticated look. Mmmm, Donuts. I'm calling this one '1600 Sport', I'm not sure why. Warm up your tyres folks, we're heading for the strip...

Da-na-na, da-na-na, dat-dana danananana etc Ex Arr Too Prace bets now!* Ghia trim, see. Sophisticated. Is anyone still reading these captions? *I'm not sure who won. I might've been the Fiesta...or perhaps the Capri. Definitely one or the other though.

Hang on, that looks familiar... I knew it!It's not (that) obvious here, but this Mk2 Fiesta was the lowest I saw at the show. It seemed to be having some traction problems as it left . There were quite a few cool rides dotted around the camping and general parking areas...I managed to snap this cool Sierra wagon as we drove out. On the subject of Sierras: I can't say I'm overly keen on the Cosworthification of the front end, but I'm probably in the minority with that opinion. The blurry area around the front arch is rain on the lens rather than dodgy paint on the Sierra. Lovin' those steels. That's all you're getting for tonight, but there should be some more tomorrow if you're interested.

Very nice thread, good entertainment for a Sunday evening. Wouldn't call myself a Ford fan but plenty to love there. The wheels on that drift rod are rather lovely, can you tell the manufacturer from any of your photos?

Two-tone paint? Contrasting pinstripe? Could this be the physical embodiment of this thread? Is this yours stuartp? Yes that's my baby Collected it Saturday afternoon so there are still a few paint issues to address (and I only noticed the swage line not meeting up on the drivers side late in the day) but overall I reckon it looks pretty good - certainly not the same as any other Escort and that was the plan It felt pretty good to be there despite the drizzle!

Cracking pics Rmad, I followed a beautiful Mk2 Zodiac up the A5 yesterday that I assume had been to the Pod, just a shame this weekend always clashes with the Fun Run at Billing.

Glad you're enjoying the pics, thanks for the feedback everyone. Keep 'em coming! The orange Fiesta reminds me of one that belongs to a mate of my brother: There's certainly some similarities. I bet that one is a right laugh! Very nice thread, good entertainment for a Sunday evening. Wouldn't call myself a Ford fan but plenty to love there. The wheels on that drift rod are rather lovely, can you tell the manufacturer from any of your photos? Thanks Al, those wheels are Stuttgart ST6: www.facebook.com/stuttgartofficialAwesome array of cars, any more pics of that funky rat rod thing? Not really, it had a bit of a crowd around it. The miserable weather meant I didn't take photography very seriously on the day either, I just took a few snaps as I wandered round. bizarrely, even though the back end is one of its most interesting features, I didn't even walk around the back, let alone take a photo! I think I envisaged a thinner pinstripe, but it looks good. Did you get/hear any comments at the show? Thanks again everyone.

There you go, a picture of the back of the drift rod from deanflowersBack to the 'coverage': 'opening doors' - or you could just get in through the shut line! Keeping it simple and looking good (part 1) Also...backflash! Keeping it simple and looking good (part 2)
