I just don't understand people chopping and changing between cars every 5 minutes. It's so much ball ache for tiny percentage differences. And we're not talking about super desirable cars are we? If you're honest it's usually very cheap, mundane stuff that no one else wants. If you go through 4 or 5 unspectacular cars in a year and nothing satisfies you it's pretty certain that cars number 6 and 7 won't do it either so stop torturing yourself. I think people just like to tick off as many models as they can so they can start threads like this! I feel sorry for your wives* *runs and hides!! Well, for me i've got a foot in both camps. I have my favourites, my Mustang, my Chrysler Alpine, my '32 Ford, and if i ever find my Vauxhall Carlton estate (PLD 813W) that will be in the list too! I've not got any plans to sell any of them. Then i've got my cars that i don't really plan to sell, but if someone wants them more than i do, and offers me enough of the folding stuff, then they'll be off down the road in them, they would be cars like my '68 Barracuda, my P100, my Volvo 262c, and even my Talbot Alpine. Lastly, i've got the cars i will sell at the drop of a hat, namely my Jaguar X-type which is currently featuring in another thread here on RR, as well as already being on ebay! Probably should sell my Mk5 Escoprt van project too, and probably my late '80's Mustangs as well. However, i'm not really bored of any of them, i like to change them to experience different cars, and yes, to tick off different models etc. Mrs Pistonpopper thinks i'm trying to work my way through a set of Top Trumps or something! As for feeling sorry for our wives, i shouldn't, it's probably the choping and changing of cars thats helped to save our relationships with people that matter. Before i was lumberred oops, sorry, i mean before i was lucky enough to be with Mrs Pistonpopper i only had one car at a time. But i was what could be described at best as a serial dater! Oddly Mrs Pistonpopper was one of these women who i dated briefly in my twenties, anyway, i dated a lot of women, and usually there was some sort of 'overlap' between girlfriends. I even had three (current at the time) girlfriends break up with me on one night, as it turned out they were all related which i didn't realise until i was out with one of them one night, and the other two came in a sat down next to us! That was awkward i can tell you! But in all my serial dating years i only had one car at a time. I got through about eight cars in nearly twenty years! So, just over ten years ago i re-met Mrs Pistonpopper, a girl who i had previously dismissed as i honestly thought she was a lesbian, and probably someone else had caught my wandering eye! But we went out, had fun, and i'm still with her to this day, and it is great! I've not had a single relationship with anyone else since we got together again, but in the last ten years or so, i've had nearly 50 cars! Plus various motorcycles! And she encourages this behavior, often pointing out potential purchases to me! In her words, she much rather i come home stinking of petrol, that some tramps cheap perfume!

Who gets bored of their cars? I have to admit, I get a car, and I never ever seem to find one that I really love. In the last decade, aside from a couple of Mini Cooper classics, I've gone back and forth between old fords and 80s/90s J stuff and had 1 or 2 cars every year. I buy something I really like, then straight away all I do is end up wanting something else. The last 10 years is roughly, Mini Cooper, mondeo, mk3 supra, Mini Cooper, e30 325i, scirocco, Capri, celica, classic beetle, mk3 supra, Capri, cortina, mk2 escort, cortina, celica, jaguar, celica, mx5. The last 2 years in particular, I had a few months without a car then bought a good celica, got bored and decided I wanted a big jaguar saloon, bought a xj6, work went quiet and I couldn't sell the celica, so I sold the jag. I got the celica out of storage and spent some money on it and made it nice. As soon as it was sorted I got bored again and convinced myself rwd was the way to go, so I sold the celica and bought a mx5. Which brings me to the present, the mx5, while good fun, it needs some bodywork done and is totally impractical, I can't even shut the boot with a bottle of wine stood upright. So again I've had enough and it will be up for sale and gone soon. Work is on the up again so I'm fancying another big jag. Also not just the cars, I've had something like 28 motorbikes in the last 9 years. Is anyone else like this? Or just me I'm exactly the same lol!, I never seem satisfied with any car I ever buy, I seem to find fault with every single car ive ever bought, even a brand new car that I had once, I must of owned approx. 50 cars by now, and I'm constantly looking at other cars for sale, its a compulsion or an illness LOL!

Absolutely not. I've always wanted something big and comfortable to waft about in, and although the Mk3 Granada saloon was never right at the top of my wish list, it was always a car I'd liked (and preferred to the hatch). Even from new, I always admired them in the office car park (some of our sales managers got them). If petrol wasn't so expensive, and I didn't get discounted travel because of my job, I'd drive it everywhere, but as it is, on a day off I'll say to the wife 'Do you fancy going to Lakeside/Bluewater/Southend/Romford/Walthamstow?', just so I get to drive it. I know it's only a two-litre, but it's about the show not the go, and anyway if I'm going too fast, no-one can see

Thank God I'm not the only one, I've ended up getting through 2/3 cars a year in the last six years, some given to me, some bought cheaply.. none what I really want but where's the fun in getting what you want

pistonpopper - With a current list containing 32 Ford, Mustang, P100 etc - Isn't it about time you gave us pic's of your fleet? As for me - Yes I get bored. In my case it's when something is finished. (As in finished to my budget) For the last 20yrs plus I had company cars so my Capri's were just toys to be used a few weekends a year. All that changed when I fell ill 5yrs ago. I still haven't fully recovered and probably never will. With that in mind, I took a good few steps down the ladder at work to ease pressure and handed back the company car as I couldn't drive. My partner at the time (Now Wife) drove everywhere and still does really. When I started to get better about 2.5yrs ago, my partner allowed me to spend our wedding savings on mercdan's Granada. I loved it and would've kept it forever if I had a garage but I don't. I fully valeted it and put it at the back of the drive in October 2013 with the intention of bringing her back out in the spring but in November, I decided to start her up to make sure all was ok. - It wasn't! - Mildew and damp was everywhere. Even the seatbelts had gone green - I was heartbroken - She was on Ebay within hours and sold the next day. I still miss her and always will. At this point, with my realisation that I still couldn't drive properly (Collecting the Granada was the 1st time behind the wheel for me in over 3 years. The drive home worried the life out of my Wife & daughter as we got separated on M25) I then decided that as my Wife loves Retro things, I would build her a retro daily. The brief was simple - Ford, Auto & Reliable. So I built the Cortina - Ticked ALL the boxed except for one small oversight - PAS - Mrs couldn't park it (we have a tight driveway that requires a 5 poiint turn every day) - I looked into PAS for the Tina but decided against it. Sold 4 days later. With money in the bank (Bottom drawer) I thought I would sit out on a retro for a while until one fatefull day I was reading Classic Ford Mag and I saw my P100 for sale. Not only was it purple (Mrs fave colour, it was AUTO!) Here we are a year later and I have started driving again albeit only a little. I have bought myself a S210 to waft. The P100 is 1-3 weeks from completion and will hopefully be MrsSmokeEm's daily. IF for any reason, she doesn't like it, It will get sold to fund my itch for a V8 yank of some description.

There are pics of my fleet in various threads including my own here on RR, I can't really be bothered to do a thread for each one, i'd spend more time writing than i do playing with them. I think at last count i had about 15 cars in my fleet, all in different states of roadworthyness, and a couple of motorbikes too

I've only been driving 4 years and have had these in this order.
Golf mk1 mars red Honda MTX125 Peugeot Speedfight 100 Corsa 1.2 silver Some Chinese Suzuki en125 copy which got stolen after not even 2 months of ownership. Nova 1.2 saloon maroon Golf mk2 1.6 4+E auto silver Jetta mk2 1.8 4+E auto faded grey MGF 1.8 black with tan leather... actually a very nice car, kinda wonder why I sold it... Discovery 4.2 v8 maroon Vespa px150 (still have this) Triumph Toledo 1300 blue with webasto roof and blue vinyl interior, lush! Volvo s70 2.5t when the Toledo broke down, sounded ace and went like the clappers for what it was Golf mk2 2 door 1.3 Golf mk2 2 door 1.8 20vt
As you can see I have had many old golfs, the current one being the best though I now have a hankering for a classic beetle and I've only owned the golf since the end of feb and have already spent a few hundred making it better, the grass is always greener. When ever I visit scrap yards I always seem to say "cool" and run over to have a look and a fiddle wondering if I should buy one. Sitting in old Suzuki SJ's, Cherokee's, alfas and a fiat X1/9.

Just over a year ago I posted this so here's what happened since then, sort my my end of year story,
I got into drifting with the mx5 and thought it would be my new hobby, we had a free home made track but the police shut it down. So I sold the mx5 very quickly after putting this thread up. It was a mk2 NB, everyone wants the NA so at first I got no interest, but mine was a S model with LSD so it was quite desirable and went with no problems. I found a lovely 1998 Jaguar XJ6 executive for £700 and bought that. I ran it till the summer and then work went dead, I mean really dead. Since mid summer to now I have been going to work in the morning and there's been hardly anything to do and I've ended up home by lunchtime most days. Good thing as still getting 40 hours a week pay even if I did 15-20 hours but it's a low basic and I have lost all my bonus. So the jaguar became a bit expensive to keep, average 15mpg is no good. It got to the point where it was costing too much to visit family or have a day at the coast.
So I stuck the jaguar up for sale after about 8 months, and got just more than I paid for it. I bought a K11 micra 1.0 for £270 on eBay, bought blind it was ok but smelt of dogs, I should say 10 wet dogs. I got loads of very cheap interior parts from the local scrapyard and swapped it all over and made it a lot nicer. I just didn't like it at all, it was slow, cramped, and had no pas. I struggled as I have 2 bad wrists and 1 bad elbow from breaks from bmx and scooter accidents. It was known as Ken the dog kennel, I could have maybe kept it and lived with it if it had pas, but it got sold quickly. After that I went back to an an thread on here where I asked about cheap motoring, MK2VR6 suggested a avant tdi would be a good car, cheap to run and huge room. I picked a very tidy one of those up for £600 and I've had that for a few month now.
So right now the avant is mega, does 55 mpg everywhere either motorway or town and there's tons of room it's so useful. But I am starting to think about the gathering. The avant isn't a car to bring there, no one wants to see a stock a4 avant and it's slightly too new anyway. I'm trying my hardest to keep my head down and use that for a few month, then maybe getting something retro for the gathering later this year.

Nope, I never get bored of cars. In fact, one of my big problems is that I hold onto cars that I really should get rid of. I was good last year though, I sold one of my cars that I had parked up for 7 years...thankfully it is to my brother - that was one of the things that was putting me off - the idea that it would get used as a spares car or used for the engine only and then broken up - but my brother is giving it the treatment it deserves. Otherwise I don't think I would have ever sold it on.
I never get bored of the Range Rover - it is so practical, great to dive, gives a good feeling. The 63 Land Rover - every time I get in it I smile my head off like a big kid. The Celica I love the speed. The Rover P6 - whenever I drive it I get the odd sensation of it being an achievement getting to the destination so for some reason gives an odd sense of excitement! Can't get bored of that, or going sideways all the time.

For me , the search for a car is more than half the pleasure . I do not have a bucketlist , but a bucketroll of wallpaper , that changes a lot like everyday , especially since I joined retrorides as a lurker a few years ago. i'm not able to change cars now because i was made redundant a year ago and i find it very hard to find a new Job or to provide for my family these days, but i still look everyday on my" special places" to find that illusive bargain of a dreamcar of the bucketlist. yes , i'm a car addict....

Still no change for me, after a month I tend to get bored of whatever car I have lol. Since last reply, the CRV has gone, replaced with a Alfa 147, had that 6 whole weeks, replaced that with a mk1 Octavia VRS estate and that would be going soon if I wasn't moving house as tbh I'm fed up of things breaking on it.
Golf Plus has stayed as Mrs M keeps hitting things with it so its probably worth nowt no so will keep it until it dies.
Also have a mk2 Golf project, thats on hold though until our next house is finished (havent got keys yet) as it needs a full renovation. Once that's done the VRS will be going and replaced with something with LPG lol.
So thats 4 cars in 12 months,so slowing down a bit lop.

Sadly I always get bored. I have had over 70 cars in 14 years of driving now. That is on average 5 per year!! I wish I know what I wanted.. I am buying a new daily again soon and my list of considerations cover new/old/saloon/hatch/4x4/estate/coupe/cabrio/powerful/frugle! I want them all!

I also fall into the camp of not having cars for long. IMO it is a combination of boredom to a degree, sometimes the work or the car becoming too much work to own, selling the car because I have another troublesome car that needs my time or in a couple of cases simply wishing to try something else! Yes I really am an illogical fool!
If there are cars that I really winced at and thought I had lost my mind it would have to be the Porsche 944 Turbo, the Mini (but I wanted a 951 quite badly for some time, and that came up with circumstances I simply could not refuse (Price, spec and provenance), The GTi-6 to a degree and the 944 S2. However, I probably would not have bought my 951 if I still had the 951. Likewise I would not have bought the RST either.
The RST is one of the few cars which I have always wanted from before the days I learned to drive. The 944 certainly was a car of desire but the Escort got my attention first. Strange I know but I guess we are human!

I used to think I was bad,but compared to you lot,I'm an amateur. In 11 years of driving I've had:
Mk3 Ford Fiesta RST replica - 2 years MG ZR 1400+ - 3.5 years/100,000 miles Mk2 Ford Focus estate 1600tdci - 11 months /48,000 miles S14 200sx - 18 months. Most if that in pieces. Spent £15k+ on it. Saab 9-3 1.9tid vector sport (5.5 years/80,000 miles+ and counting) E36 320i touring - 1 year Alfa Romeo 147 1800tspark- 4 months Mk3 Ford Mondeo 1800 - 18 months Rover 220 GTI n/a - nearly 3 years, still counting
Oh yeah, 1971 Austin 1300 mkii... 4.5 years and counting.
And there was a Rover 214sei in between the Fiesta and the MG ZR for a year, crossed over a bit.
Now the Mrs has 01 Celica, it's fun but soul-less.
The Saab is on 130k+ miles and my daily.
The Austin is in the garage, mint, and staying.
And the 220 is tucked up at my parents.
But... The Saab needs suspension love, tyres & brakes. And I have no interest.
The Rover I haven't seen in months.
Her Celica used more oil than unleaded.
So the temptation to have a reshuffle is mighty.

I may as well spill. I tried to upload a spreadsheet via the BB Code (copy and pasting does not work for me from Excel to here) onto here but I simply do not have the patience to type them into the BB Code tables! I did at one point own more than 3 cars but keeping all three on the road does become expensive and space becomes a really big problem. I am not exactly loaded either! Yes I could buy cheaper cars of the same examples but after doing that for years it seems that buying the best you can afford is the best in the long run. For a long time I only ever bought cars with cash but they seemed to be never ending moneypits! The Focus, Ka and MGB (second car) were not too bad.
