Definitely a thread for the amateur psychologists this one, I'm sure this urge to swap constantly is a metaphor for something.
I've got through a lot of cars, but it's money that drives it. I buy cheap, improve, enjoy, and when the right offer comes along I sell. Everything's for sale for the right price, it's how I fund my retro habit. Some cars I'd never get bored of, I'd happily keep my 325i cab as long as it was feasibly possible, and it took a daft offer for me to let my 635 CSi go, but even the £500 'gambles' always put a smile on my face.

Yes and no, I was getting bored with the Capri being a bit slow with the 2.1 pinto motor so started fitting a ca18det engine, found some hidden problems so changed shells to do the project with, not through choice really and though I love the sierra its seeming too slow again now so once the capri is done I am going to fit a tuned or turbod zetec...

Happens to me all the time, but recently I have the opposite. I keep looking at the Merc and thinking I need something faster/more economical/roomier/more practical/better at towing delete as appropriate, look at stuff on eBay for ages, then look at the Merc and realise that it's perfectly reliable and needs nothing doing, and I just decide to keep it. Its so reliable and well sorted its kind of making itself impossible to sell.

Yes! I swapped my golf cabby in August for a 1.9 DT 306.. kept that until the 1st December as I wanted something RWD again, swapped it for my e30.. stuff happened and I've now sold it and bought an O2 reg Primera.
Time for a step back from everything.

looking to slow the car traffic / changing vehicles down for 2015 need to try and just hold on to my rover 800 / modify maybe like better exhaust / but i always have an eye for a 4x4 so who knows never motivated by making money / have made a few quid unexpectantly on swaps but mostly its for a reason the grass always seems greener on the other side Mid 2015 Update Found a nice Subaru Forester S Turbo which suits my needs, is fairly quick and reasonable on fuel so after many many changes of car time just to enjoy a long term vehicle.

Yip sorry Liam its a cracker. Maybe this is the whole point of being a caraholic ,when you see something you like, and you've just got to have it, go get it, no matter if it's for a week or a lifetime. Glad i jumped on the Merc it really is a nice car ,ive never had a Merc before think i may be on the merc band wagon for a while now ...well possibly maybe, till something else turns my head!!!

I've got a bit of automotive seven year itch with my VWs at the moment. I've had my Beetle for 12 years and my bus for 17 and keep thinking about other things but I know I would regret it if I sold either of them.

Of course, the grass is always greener, there is a dealer near me who always has different retros on the forecourt and so far not one of them has gone by without me thinking and planning out a way to get hold of it before the Toledo talks sense into me. I even put up a swaps add a month ago The dealership has had a 106 rallye in black, a completely non molestered gold type 19 golf mk2 with low miles, currently has a merc w201 auto in claret, a lovely sprite spec mini, an MGB GT, I should really stop driving by there...

They do get under your skin, they just feel special to drive, they're incredibly easy to work on and don't often go wrong, plus you can pick them up for nothing.

I tend to keep collecting more of the same cars,it started with manta's. Had 13 in all,5 at one time.still have 3 and a shell.moved on to nova's, had 9 of those.the last 14 years it been renault 19,s.6 at the mo but had 12 or so in the past.my pet is a 92 19 supervan.have it 8 yrs. its on its 5th engine but i wont give up on it.swapped daily driving duties from a 94 chamade diesel to a 06 A4 avant and got bored of the audi after a few days.

I've got a foot in both camps. If I had the money I'd happily keep the Volvo Amazon forever (had it 8 years already) but I don't have the $$ to finish body repairs and replace the motor with something more economical so it's up for sale.
Other cars I get bored of, but generally only when things aren't going right elsewhere in life, I think of fixing it by changing cars :)I've grown to like almost every car I've owned but there are plenty more I'd love to own if I had the $$/use/etc.

I think i'm somewhere on the fence - the cars I have are so completely opposite that if I want a break I can take the other one out (when they're both working, a rarity) so i'm not sure 'bored' comes into it.
The problem i have is that I get very sentimentally attached to them - the amount of hours in each is staggering and I guess its only natural to develop a bit of a bond if you get really into something. I think it's all cash and space dependant, i'd love to buy another to put in the 'revolving' position and keep these two as permanents, but I think i'm more likely to have one permanent (Landy) and x amount of others on rotation.
Having said that, I have just inherited a Riley 6 so I think I could potentially have another lifer with me and still struggle to rotate any of them!

In 32 years I've only owned 20 motor vehicles but I still have 11 of them in varying states of repair. Of those 11, 3 will start reliably and go, 1 starts but only goes forwards, 1 will go with a bit of work, 2 are serious projects, and the rest will never move under their own power again. The short answer to the original question is no I don't get bored with my vehicles but I am inclined to collect more than I really need as I find it difficult to sell them.

I bought an actual modern, Jag S-Type, for the first time this year, mainly because I was having to do a lot of motorway trips and my Shogun isn't economical at 70!! Whilst I love driving the jag and it's the quickest thing I've had, I'm already bored of the fact that I can't mod it and I'm forever worried about it breaking! I'm taking it to Spain in the summer and I'll decide whether to keep or sell after that.
Out of all the stuff I've had, there's only two which I sold due to (ex)gf pressure rather than boredom, a 924 and a golf cab, so these have been the recent subjects of my eBay searches.
I think you just have to keep looking until you live with something you like. I've had my mini over 10 years and although it goes against all my car buying criteria, fwd, slow and no toys, I'd never sell it!
