I'm asking this question on behalf of a mate, He already runs a 4age 1600 in RWD format, but really needs to now run it as an Automatic, I think a auto flex plate & probably starter motor from a MR2,20v is the way to get it started as a conversion, What else bolts up? ? Ian

Oic. Got plenty of starter motors and flex plates left over from MR2 V6 swaps. You're going to need a torque converter and gearbox, I just binned a set from a Lexus that might have done you.
Trick will be finding an inline autobox, most of the modern stuff is FF layout.
Chris.

In Oz we got the ae71 in automatic - they will bolt straight up to a 4age engine (same bellhousing for 4age/3au/3ac/4ac engines). These were the last of the rwd corolla platform and are identical underneath to an ae86 more or less.
The Japanese market ae86 was available as automatic, and I would assume the 4age RWD Coronas and Celicas probably were as well, though they are all pretty rare to be honest.

MR2 gearbox will fit, but won't make it RWD (unless he's got the engine in the same way as an MR2), just like courseout said, RWD 4a automatics are pretty rare overhere, i haven't seen them.

I think you would have a better chance of getting that to work over anything else available.
