I'm talking post-Granada, so 1994 onwards? They were horrendous in their day, never took off due to poor reviews about them etc, mainly due to the fact they were fugly! But, the Fiat Multipla was fugly as well (still is), but seems to be coming of age it seems? So, what potential does the Ford Scorpio have? I was sat in the pub this afternoon and me and the old man were having a chat about these. My dad has had Granada's in the past, the last being an L reg Granada Scorpio 2.9 when I was a kid. He is fancying these Scorpio's now (never liked them new, but as an alternative to his Omega he quite likes the look of them now). Had a look on the net and can't find any which have been properly 'done' it is more just bigger wheels etc - what are peoples thoughts? Any well known Scorpio's that are tastefully modded? This colour is probably my favourite, quite like the idea of an estate as well: One which has been photo shopped...

They are cracking but I'd say stick with an Omega if that was the alternative...
As far as I know the Scorpio had a very early form of bio-degradable type wiring which expired long before it should have meaning things would pack up with alarming regularity...!!!
I remember reading an article in about 1994(ish) saying the car would not be released for another few years then Ford went an released it about 6 months later...!!!
They are ageing quite well but they are frought with problems as far as I know...!

It also had biodegradable rear suspension and differential mounts which consigned a lot of them to the scrap yard at an early age - a difficult and expensive repair. Probably the main reason why not many are left on the road so if you do find one check these points very carefully.

Wow it's a long time since I've seen that face and as you say, it is indeed Fugly. I know someone who had them when they were new and he went through two of them in quick succession due to a multitude of problems. That's probably why it's so long since I can remember seeing one in the flesh. Think he settled on an Omega eventually.
The Cosworths make great engine donors! If you could find a nice one I'd be tempted to leave it as is and have a comfy barge on big rims and hope nothing went bang. They're never going to set the world on fire. It would be interesting to see just how much weight you can tear out of one if you fancied trying to make it a bit more agile.

Massive potential imo. But don't they have completely different suspension to the Mk3 Granada/Sierra so nothing is interchangeable.
I think a healthy drop and some wide 17's would be all they would need.

I had one basically for free years ago as there was a management issue which I believe was just lambdas throwing in too much fuel cos it was doing about 5mpg!!! Engine was incredible though, went so well, great noise too!! Car was incredibly well equipped, lovely to drive, felt a million times better put together than my e36 328i cab, seats like armchairs and everything electrical worked perfectly, Were 4 stud from memory so guessing different to the granny? Plenty of potential for sure but that was at least ten years ago that I had that Scorpio and it was a scrapper then so I'm not convinced unless you get a really well cared for one that it won't have issues. I believe they were one of the first CANBUS style cars? I seem to think the electronics in them were very advanced as there's all sorts you can do, they have a diagnostics direct to the dashboard that tells you alternator voltage, which cylinders are firing etc, clever stuff.

Thanks for doing the pics ElWoody its a mission without a pc!
Shame to see so many of these being banger raced now.
The 3 box shape and wraparound rear lights really suit an american style in my opinion. I would be happy with a dog slow auto one as long as it was low, clean and had decent wheels!

Good to see my old car getting some love. I had two 2.0s the green silly one with a manual box executive spec ex-Ford car which was lovely to drive until I fitted the 13x7s which meant flipping the steering rack onto the top of the arms so there was a sweet spot for steering or it was toe-in/toe-out. The other 2.0 was an auto I gave £150 for and was a ghia and was almost the slowest and most inefficient car I've owned, bar a 5.2 Buick regal. The auto did 19mpg and would get overtaken by Micras uphill.

You could always do your own styling on one, if the frog-look doesn't appeal. This has facelift Rover 46 lights, and isn't a photoshop.

Mine was the cossie motor, great engine, fact it's used in so many conversions suggests it's pretty popular too. In work we used to have a 2.3 I4 motored galaxy which shifted pretty well, might be better than the dead slow zetec 2.0l? I believe there's all sorts of balancer shafts etc in that 2.3 that serve no purpose other than to slow and spoil its revvy nature. I had the 2.0 I4 chain engine in the rs2000 and it was a great tough little motor which pulled well.

So, apart from debateable styling, they're about as electrically advanced as an early 2000's Renault?! I've had Laguna electrical woes in the past which I got through, so it might be worth a punt! The car wouldn't be for him to replace his Omega - the 2.2 remains his daily drive, this would be something for him to mess about with on the side (he's fed up of old BMW's now), so would probably be looking at the top end of the engine scale and going for the 2.9. Might have to look about to see what we can find. That one posted with the Rover 45 headlamps looks worse than the original vehicle
