As the title. I will be looking for a proper retro classic car when ive sold my mondeo st220 (big regret but I don't use her). I currently have 3 sd1's, a couple of modern audis and a van. I really have an itch for a morris minor, I'm a mechanic, have had sooooo many 80's onwards cars I cant even remember. So is a morris minor the best pre 80's car? or can anyone persuade me towards something else?

Your choices seem to be, Minor, A30/5's, Beetle or MGB's
Saw a couple of Mercs
I suppose main question is how good is your welding lol.

welding is a good question and something I should have mentioned, yes I can quite happily weld but as long as its not a full resto haha. mg's and beetles a pass for now, minor or a40? and mercs? I see enough and have had enough as I work for them however I would have another 190e 2.6 but I wouldnt get one for my budget

An A40 Farina wouldn't be too horrible a thing if you're already looking at that sort of thing. Tend to be quite easy to see the rust on and they're a good basic machine while being a bit different to a Minor. You can get quite a good one for £1,500, a fully restored one for £2,500-3,000.

Is it a retro or a classic your after?
The above cars i would say are more classics.
Retro wise for £1500 i,d get a mk2 mr2 T bar, Brilliant cars will do 40mpg is driven tide and will top 140mph if not.
They handle brilliantly and there's the J build quality.
The only down side is rust around the sills if you get a bad one, and if you need more that 2 seats.
Witch if you do i,d go for a astra gte or gsi redtop.

With a handle like mine, as you would expect checkout and drive a good Mk1/2 1.8 Marina, either a twin or single carb. Either a two door, four door or an estate. I would also recommend the A40 Farina, it's an MG Midget in disguise.

That austin would be perfect but the wrong time but definitely a car I would consider. the marina or A40 also, yes I guess its more classic I'm after but would give it the retro rides treatment and most probably modernise brakes etc. Mr2s are too new for me although I do agree with you they handle exceptionally well. I hoping to sell my st200 next month so if she sells I will be having a good look at the cars mentioned.

Ive been using a mg roadster most of the summer as my daily and i think if it wasent for the fact the heater is useless and the fear or salt dissolving it come the winter months i,d keep using it.
Keep them well tuned carbs and points timing eta and there not to bad on fuel either.
