Despite the distraction of a new car, I've been thinking about my MGB GT again and the plans I have for it. The current plan is to sebring wide arch it but keep the chrome bumpers, a bit like this photoshop a mate did for me  But the problem I have is, if I fit the arches, I'm going to have to paint the car, and if I paint the car, the bumpers may look a bit out of place as they're a bit pitted and dull (which works with the cars currently tired paint  ) I don't think I really fancy the cost of rechroming or new bumpers, have looked at chrome powder coating but then I randomly thought of painted chrome bumpers So whats the general consensus on these? Do they give a mean look? or are they just a bit naff and lazy? Feel free to add your opinions for or against but please back them up with pics of cool cars      |

think it depends on the colour your car will be going to be honest - if it's staying black then painting the bumpers black would lose the contrast.
Chrome-effect vinyl wrap?
or matt black plastidip if the colour of the car is going bright.

Car is to stay Mallard green, so a dark green, thats a good point that the chrome bumpers do provide a bit of contrast to break up the front end somewhat, perhaps a light or mid grey colour painted bumper?

I have a round light BMW 2002 like the one in the pic, but would never think of painting the bumpers on that. But I also have a 1602 with square rear lights and I AM thinking of body coloured ones for that !!!!
So I guess it's down to the car really. Some wear it well and some don't. If you plan on wide arches and all that, then I would say go for it. If it was a nice original car, then definitely not.
And BTW, that red 2002 in the pic looks hideous with ALL the chrome trim painted !!!!

Fast-n-loud did a great car where all the chrome had a going over with Scotchbrite pads (or powered equivalent) to give a matt-ish chrome finish. I thought it looked great, a lot tougher but still had the brighter colour rather than black.
If you were to paint them I think it may look a bit odd (unless you have a genius idea on a colour that happens to work) in any colour but black or the body colour. Photoshop could be your friend there.

Body coloured bumpers always remind me of 80s Cal Look VWs (which you will have to decide is a good or bad thing). Probably works best on a brighter colour.
I like the idea of satin silver or brush finished though if you go down that direction it could be worthwhile doing the other chrome in the same way for a bit of continuity. just my opinion though.

I think painted either silver or body coloured would be fine as modern off the shelf chrome generally seems to be rubbish. I put new chrome bumper blades on mine and within 6 months they've already started rusting. That said I've always thought MGBs look pretty good without the front bumper |

Hmm do like the idea of the brushed steel and hadn't thought of wrapping.. Not seeing a lot of pics though guys! I'll have a look for some pics of cars with brushed steel bumpers when I get a chance later |

When I get around to doing my MGB I'm thinking about making new bumpers in aluminium but in the same style. For the lightweight racer look. I will then have the option of leaving them matt or polishing them or even leaving the weld beads showing.
