In a couple of months time I will have had my MGB GT for 2 years and its my first car! It's made me realise that I can't think of any of my friends who still have their first cars through various reasons (boredom, needing something bigger, crashing) And I'm starting to get slightly surprised responses from some of them when I tell them I still have the MG So anyone on here had a particularly long lived first car? anyone still got theirs?? Have a picture of mine to get things started

My Volvo 480 lasted 3 years I think before I finally got fed up of all its little quirks...

M reg Xantia 1.9TD was scruffy when l bought it and just continued to become more dog eared, not rotten at all but ran that for years, don't realy know how long maybe 4-5 years got know as the green goddess in the end, only got rid because the gearbox went bang on M25 after 1/4 million miles and that was the only time it even broke down, flogged it on fleebay as l had another one waiting on the drive because gearbox was making so much noise and they were cheap as chip's you don't see them around anymore.

My First car when I was 16 (1997). Restored it ready for my 17th Birthday, I then drive this daily until 2002 (all the way through college and Uni). In about 1999 I bought the MGB GT (now MX5 powered), which was found in a field all rotted out...2 Years later it looked like this, This is what my student loan went no (no getting drunk): In the mean time the Midget was put in storage..Actually into the garage of a house we bought, it sat there for about 4 years I think. Then once we moved to said house I started the resto, this is how it looks.....6 year on :-( Its been in that state a while, with the Capri, BGT, Beetle and Austin taking up my time....

Can relate to being the minority of still having my first car, most of my friends have multiple since. I'll most likely have multiple at the same time haha.

Bought my Accord @ 17 in 1990 from my aunt & learned to drive in it. Here it is sometime after I had my license & started working on it. Fixed it up & repainted before I smashed it 2 or 3 years later. Luckily there was room in my parents shed to keep it whilst I struggled to buy another that I give to my sister when I bought a CR-X SiR and started repairing the first Accord. Ran the Accord & CR-X together for a while before deciding the Accord was a more comfortable & practical all-rounder, so Mum drives the CR-X and the Accord remains my daily despite other automotive distractions. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/36869/1979-accord-prelude-integra-new

My dad got his first car in 1979, lasted until 1984/5 driving it then was stored, it changed owners in 2012 to me being driven as my first car although hopefully will be driven a bit longer by me. Still stays at home so he in a way still hasn't got rid of it (and still sometimes ends up doing the odd job on it). The upper picture was taken in 1981 when resprayed then again this summer when I visited.

Owned my first car, a 1998 Fiesta, for five and a half years before getting bored and selling it. For various reasons, not owned anything since for more than about two years.

Not my first car, far from it, but the longest one I've owned is my mk2 RS2000, which I've had since 2001, apart from a brief 6 week period when some scum nicked it, but I got it back. Ironically my very 1st car was also a mk2 escort, though not an RS, couldn't afford the insurance on one then, let alone the cost of the RS

Bought in 9/'03 - and still have it And it seems I'm not the only one who's stored they'r first car away. Whilst tinkering with something else in the meantime. Drove it daily, except in salty season. And I'm itching to drive it again!

Had this old beast 5 years. Blown it up once, parked it on a bridge once, still going strong. An ever evolving project that will, hopefully , never end.

My Imp was bought as a car for me to learn in and as a town runabout when I was 17. My Dad came to pick me up from school in it on 2nd November 2004, and I drove it home. It's been off the road twice since, for a few months at a time, while awaiting bodywork repairs. Mostly, however, it's been my one and only car. While the 43,000 miles I've clocked up in the last 9 years aren't a lot compared to some people's early years of driving, I have had a limited income due to student life throughout. This is also the reason for the cosmetic degradation of the poor thing. Mechanically, however, it's stronger than ever. I can't see me selling it, ever. It'll be my main car for as long as there is metal left to weld to, or until someone drives into it...

Sadly my first car did not last more than 2 years in my ownership, since it was heavily rear-ended when I stopped at a zebra crossing. Perhaps I'd still have it now if that hadn't happened? Its replacement I have had since then though, 1995.

Loving all the stories so far It's nice to see that I'm not alone in getting attached to a first car, I can definitely see me getting the MG off the road once I'm earning enough for a second car so that I can do an engine swap or a light resto

My first car on the road lasted 8 months before upgrading, 2nd lasted 8 months before some turd pulled out in front of me, 3rd was 8 weeks when I spotted a 205 gti for sale in a local paper I told the lady over the phone I would take it I was just waiting for a lift over to come and give her money. I got to impatient waiting and ended up driving myself over to find another guy had got there before me and was offering more than it was advertised for lucky for me she was a dam nice lady and declined his offers and asked me if I did want it leaving me no room for haggling I merely asked if she would drive the 205 in to town where I could get her the money. Where I had to sit with both my cars waiting for someone else to come drive one home. I still have the 205 in the garage 11 years on and wouldn't part with it even though it has got in to quite a bad state now Its the only car I've ever owned for a long period as I get bored quite quickly, normally there lucky if I tax them twice never mind take them for more than one MOT.
