Hi anyone got any experience of the powerspark electronic ignition kits as sold on eBay (item no 120763002792 sorry on phone so can't post link).
I'm having major issues with points and condenser system on my mk1 cavalier 2.0. i.e. Can open the points right up (way over spec) and it runs OK but if I set them right it's got a horrible hesitation when revved to the point of it cutting out if the throttle is floored. I replaced the condenser and it ran ok with the book settings - result I thought! However after a couple if mins it was back to its old ways. Might just be cheap carp condenser failing straight away but I thought these powerspark systems seem like a cheap solution.
I remember some luminution? systems from my old mini days which were much pricier but seemed a similar product. But not seen powerspato before, anyone used them?

I have an Accuspark fitted to my 1275cc MG Midget engined Minor Traveller, which looks very similar to the one shown.
It works very well - I fitted it about 3 years ago, and it's been reliable.
However, I had to turn the distributor base quite a surprising amount before it would even fire up, so be prepared for that.

I fitted an accuspark stealth system to my MGB about a year and a half ago (It's largely the same as the powerspark kit judging by looks) and I've had no issues with it since. It did need quite a bit of tweaking to the timing after fitting but this may be down to the fact that the points were knackered beforehand!

Another thumbs up for accuspark from me, not heard of powerspark so if possible I'd avoid being the first person in our community to try it if possible, then again at that price what have you got to lose!
I have to say however the symptoms you describe would make me wary of assuming its the points and condenser causing you grief. while electronic ignition is an upgrade id recommend to anyone in any situation, in this case I would take the distributor off and check it for wear too, as I can't think why else you'd be getting the problem you describe?

If its the original CIH engine in the mk1 cav you can drop the electronic ignition from the Manta GT/e in without any mods. They are a separate ignition system, not tied to the injection system so all you need is the dizzy, coil, ignition pack and the little loom that goes from the dizzy to ignition pack from a GT/e Connect the 2 wires currently going to your coil to the new one and the loom picks up power from there to run everything. Thats what i was running on my mk1 carlton estate with the same engine.

Cheers for the replies. I think the dizzys ok but I'll whip it out and give it a more thorough once over, if it's ok I think I'll give the accuspark/powerspark a go if it's duff I'll see if I can locate a mantra setup.

Hi, Phone Simonbbc up direct, I have heard he is friendly, helpful and won't give you the hard sell. He will talk you through your problem and advise you what you need, and you can buy direct from him without going through Ebay if that is important to you.
