Went to a colleagues house today, whilst loitering outside, I peeked through her prefab garage window, and spyed a car under a cover. All I could see was the wheel with a symbol I didn't recognise. So I went back in the house and asked her what was hidden in the garage. "Oh, I don't something Japanese which an ex boyfriend from 7 years ago left here, do you want to see it" So after fighting through 7 years of cob webs and junk, I managed to peek at the front, side interior and just about got to the rear. Cars sills look solid, interior looks mint, couldn't see any terrible rust signs. I think it some sort of celica GT, as its a 2 door coupe fastback, but I couldn't see any signs of celica on it, just the below griffin or Griffith badge on the fastback C pillar (behind rear qtr lights" And it had the same name but in normal 1" high chrome lettering across the boot OSR. The integral spoiler on the rear made me think it a little unusual. Anyone got any ideas? What might it be worth? It could be for sale. it's a facelifted TA40/RA40 Celica. Early 80s. Dunno if it's a GT, probably not. Checked the license plate and it is a 2 liter, so probably a 2.0XT. Nice cars though, a bit underrated (at least in the Netherlands!). Everyone is mad for the earlier ones.

YES its a Celica! I had one identical to this, same colour as well, reg no was DVJ 2W. Alas it died of terminal tinworm. Billed as a japanese Capri (it isn't) its heavy, thirsty, not very quick (in stock 2ltr form) and has a vague and floaty steering box. Then again, when mine died in the late 90s, it was just another J banger in a market full of such things. Now I would say save it if you can, they are as rare as hens teeth in the UK now and it has MASSIVE potential!!!

Someone on a J forum has just ID'd it as a Griffith TX22, a targa conversion by an American company of the celica GT

It's a targatop, a sunchaser version of the gen 2 celica ra40 like the blue one in the picture. It's really my dads car, which he brought in 1990 and sold it on in late 1991 to go on holiday, not knowing at the time how rare it was. He has a old photo, a previous mot and receipt somewhere for it. It was years after until he realised what he actually had. The same owner to whom the car was sold in 1991 is still the registered keeper for it today. We have been trying to contact him for years but had no luck still knowing the car is around somewhere. Seeing pictures of it on here after 22 years is unreal, Jamie has found a true barn find and we are really hoping he can get us this car back.

Goodness me...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A great story this is indeed...
£10k though...?! Oh well you cannot put a price on this cars rarity and sentimental value so the sky is the limit to a certain extent...
I look forward to seeing more snaps of this car when it finally leaves it resting place and makes its way to its new (old!) home...

Wonder how they came to that price? Either way, a happy and unexpected ending.
