right next september I'm taking part in a screwball rally plus i want to do a couple of other charity rallys
car wise I'm not sure what I'm after
I'm looking at buying something at the end of next month
spec wise
its not allowed to cost more than £750 but the cheaper the better
its needs to be good on fuel
needs to be reliable
don't mind doing some work on it for the mot
not fussed about mot or tax as I'm expecting it to need work
needs to fit in a standard garage so nothing to big but also not to small as I'm 6ft 2"
i do have a v8 range rover that i could px or swap it has no tax or mot I'm selling this at £650
thanks si

My Alfa 156 will be for sale then (or any time from now onwards really!) for around £500. Tax til end of Nov, MOT til end of May. Nothing wrong with it except the air-con doesn't work, the rear left elec window works when it feels like it and the anti roll bar rattle over bumps sometimes. No warning lights or other known faults and has been 100% reliable in my ownership!
EDIT: It's a 2.0 litre TwinSpark, full leather interior (remarkably comfy MOMO seats!). At a steady 80mph it does around 32-33mpg, at a steady 55 (following an MG Midget on the way to the RR Gathering!) it does nearly 40mpg. Round town it'll do high 20s if you don't drive with your foot to the floor everywhere!

2002 1.0 litre Daihatsu Cuore. Cheap to insure and run. 45mpg - 50mpg when I've been recording consumption - I researched and bought this specifically for low purchase price and insurance group and running costs. It's actually great fun to drive. Currently sitting on mk1 Renault 5 gt wheels and adjustable coilovers on front with chopped springs at rear but I can return to standard if you want to keep costs low. Bodywork isn't pretty but starts first time every time and great fun to drive due to light weight and low seating position. MOT til December, tax til February but only £52 iirc for 6 months ticket. 53000ish miles. As close to a reliable original mini as you can get for modern thrills. It is a small car but you can recline the seat so your head won't hit the roof Photos in my build thread linked from signature - available in next few weeks Based in Midlands

I've got an Ax vts here, it'd be nearer the top of your budget, but is taxed & mot'd, the only issue it has as far as I know is one of the CV joints is knackered.

My 405 TD will be for sale soon, nice comfy cruiser! It has full leather and aircon so good for long journeys, very reliable 1.9 td engine with bosch pump so can be run on veg oil. I would be looking around the £750 mark for it.
