I seem to recall a while ago, one magazine ran a series on building a KLR650 for maximum HP. I think they bored it out as far as possible taking it to over 700cc and got something like 60BHP out of it. Largest capacity for a KLR650 currently is the 705cc kit from Schnitz racing.. A standard klr650 makes about 37bhp, from what I've seen on the owners-club forums going to 705cc plus a lot of other work will get you up to around 45 to 48bhp @6000rpm.. a guy called Cary Aspey was the man behind the work for that and was apparently looking at a ~730cc kit being as far as the block would go.

What about building a custom engine using aftermarket Harley parts ? Blank off the surplus pot on the crankcase. Make a dummy big end spacer for the redundant conrod space on the crank. Then cam and balancing of crankshaft to sort out. I'm betting somebody, somewhere, has already done this.

Is wandering from the thread slightly but TL1000's are always going to be pretty cheap given the awful rep for tank slappers they got when they first came out the tls models were the menace but the R version's are more stable and i can vouch for the noise mine made my daughter cry the first time she heard it

Paul H How strange is your suggestion, Last night I was mulling over the very same idea, the idea came to me was along the line of the american short oval racers who use half a a SBC

If we're modding the singles...... The 650cc Suzuki Freewind engine (52hp stock), was used in the CCM R30 supermoto, and a 720cc big more kit and reground cam kit are easily available which certainly gives it some punch. There was a link somewhere to a a guy who managed to stroke the same engine and ended up with 960cc!

Yamaha SRX-6? I had the 400cc version but it wasn't exactly a quick bike (and I blew it up). However it does have a dual ported head so there might be some potential for squeezing a bit more out of one. And it is air-cooled.
