My new project, Love the look of 60's cars so bought this about 3 weeks ago. When it arrived it was one ugly thing, but I could see the potential underneath. The wife couldn't at first  Its a Ford Galaxie 500 2 door sedan, straight 6 engine 3.9 L. Has wear and tear as you'd expect for an old car, but sound chassis and panels. Originally 3 speed manual column change but some previous owner has fitted a floor shifter. The last PO got the car running again and Mot'd having been off the road for maybe 10 years. So expecting a few teething troubles whilst I iron out the bugs of a long sleep! This is how it was purchased. It arrived on a low loader at 23:00hrs Friday night. The paint scheme just had to go and fast! By 10am Saturday morning it was rollered Satin black:tup: Not pretty but at least one colour. So now looks good from 20 yards:lol: Now doesnt look like it should be in safari park chasing lions  Borrowed the 20" rims of my mates truck. The rims are too big and the ride height is far too high, but we had some fun and looks 100% better in less than 12 hours of arriving at my house. Next thing to tackle was a quick makeover of the seats. My eldest daughters arty talents kicked in here. The front was riding high compared to the rear, so cut 1/2 coil off the front to level it up ( the whole car stills needs to come down) but level is good for now:tup: next up oil change, set rockers, new leads, rad flush and carb rebuild, and a spot of paint on the rocker cover:tup: Got a set of 15 x 6 cragar polished rims with the car, then got 2 more 8 x 15 for the rear and set of white wall flaps, playing around with tyres sizes at the mo, think I'll settle on 215/60/15 front and 265/50/15 rears. Next job to sort out is it's throwing the water out, suspect blocked stat or water pump from standing so long and petrol tank leak, then hopefully on the road.

Sorting out the small niggles. Had an overheating problem so flushed the rad and soldered up the bottom outlet that was cracked. Flushed the block out and thinks its ok, however now have 3 more problems at the mo, not running right, starter motor a bit dicky and fuel tank leak. Going to sort the last 2 before sorting the running problem. All to be expected on a car that's been laid up for a long time. Starter is weak and throws out too early, sometimes not even catching. stripped it down and its looks poorly:tdown: Was wondering what to do and tried my hand on ebay. Can you believe it a brand new one £40 only 20 miles from me. its for the V8 302, but looks to be just the nose casting that is different, so hopefully swap over from the old one. Cleaned up the engine and found some blue paint:tup: Current stance now all the wheels are on. r

Yeah, the 20" rims are too large. Needs to come down a little lower yet, but want to sort out the fews problems first. Then plans are to turbo the 4 litre straight 6 engine, trying to avoid the V8 route, although its tempting

Thank heavens you've put some proper wheels on it! I was rather worried for a minute. Looking good all round

That looks 100% better with Cragars and paint & I love those stacked head lights on these

Thanks, it was the stacked headlights and sheer size of it that i liked, its 17 1/2ft long! Touches the garage wall and garage door, and only just fits through with the wing mirrors folded in. Bags ot torque too, you can set off in 3rd gear, no engine bog down. It was for sale for 2 years , no wonder it never sold in that colour scheme!

Nice ride chap How are you gonna go about the turbo conversion? Any ideas on which snail you will use or what ya doing for fuel?

Not completely planned out yet, have a couple of T3 turbos one AR .68 and another 1.32. it will be a home brew manifold. Then looking for a 4 barrel inlet manifold to take a Holley carb. Ive got a 600cfm, but not sure if that's too large, might need a 390? But at least it will get things going. Looking to do it blow throu and mod the carb to take this. Will fit MSD ignition something like a 6AL with boost retard and electrnic fuel pump.
These engines produce good low down torque and with a 7 bearing main crank have a great bottom end. Not so good at high reving though. Then again a V8 does sound nice................

Indeed it would! BUT.....how many turbo'd 6-pot Galaxy's are ya going to see?

Exactly! That's why i'm more determined to give it ago and buck the V8 trend. In the USA its common to tune the straight 6, achieving more power than the V8 302 engine.
Need to sort the basics first, like getting it running properly and stance nice.

Petrol tank back in now.
Running sweet now, new condenser and points fitted. Went for a 10 mile test run, no overheating or petrol leaks:tup: Picked daughter up from scouts, she thought it was EPIC.
Next up back tyres and drop the ride height:D
