Ive been looking at possible cars to buy for a daily, and other than the 124/125 that seems the most abundant and affordable option right now ive found a coupe of cheap Triumph Acclaim. Now, until i sell my VW i cant buy shizzit, but just so i know, why don't i see any of them dropped? I looked for anything similar and this body style 'rolla seems the closest, and look pretty good. So it got me wondering... What sorta suspension they have? Is there a technical reason why you don't see them?

Lack of popularity has restricted what is available for these cars. The custom route would be the best route, seeing what fits the Honda Ballade may be an avenue worth pursuing.

And to think i even did a search.... thanks, and that red civic in there look sooo good, and the acclaim is basically a 4 door civic with a boot...now i know they arent, but if you look at the from 10 ft you wouldnt know. So yeah, lots of potential, but why is it that theres none that are really done up proper? Are they coilovers all around?

I had visions of airbagging an old English white acclaim a few years ago but didn't have the spare cash when a mint ex-OAP car came up for sale near me.

I'm still having thoughts about getting one of these and dropping a D/B16 lump in it for ultimate Grandad spec sleeper. How hard could it be?? Nice drop, set of SSR Star/Mesh/Work Equip and you're done

I had one years ago and I loved it.
I'm still pining for it 20 years later tbh!

Since it hasn't been said, they are coil-over mcpherson struts all round, so there's certainly no reason they couldn't be dropped, just that they weren't marketed to that audience so there's nothing readilly availale & few got around to it. Funny how people bag them for not being a RWD Triumph Dolomite/2000/2600 when they were more of a successor/replacement for the Toledo. With the Civic quite worthy & mildly upgraded with twin carburetors.

I had one years ago and I loved it. I'm still pining for it 20 years later tbh! Me too! My first and second cars were both Acclaims (1st gold, 2nd green like Slaters). I've always said to the missus, if I saw one for sale I would HAVE to buy it.

My now wife's first car was an acclaim too in 96 when we were teenagers.
We only had saturday jobs, ran it on £5s worth of petrol at a time, let the oil run dry and it just didn't care.
Was nice and tidy too in its brown exterior and interior.
At the time it was unfashionable but Trevor led me to buy Dolly and that's what got me started on the whole car thing.
Sorry I digress but despite the slating they got in the past I think they certainly have the "retro / unloved / unique" appeal down to the ground.

Great replies. thanks The next question at this point would be what if anything is interchangable with the civic? Or does the same year civics need custom coilovers too?

ooh the wagon... they didnt make those right? I think the really need some dish and some german style poke. As in thread under the arch and sidewall poking, to really be aweosome. No?
What about the chopped springs? Canyou chop the stockers on the mc pherson? I thought it was really shoddy. But I'm no coilover expert so might just be myth.

Best to get on the 1st gen civic forum, includes 2nd gen. Think everything should interchange with civic. Not much available for them either anymore & later Civics were Completely different, though the 1st gens have recently organised a good adjustable coil-over kit. Not sure if it would fit 2nd gen though, and probably not a cheap option. There were Civic wagons, but they didn't look like that & didn't go to all markets.
