I'm about to fit my shiny new Gaz coilovers to the Sierra, but before I do I want to reinforce the strut tops. Originally the Sierra has a seperate in-board spring and damper setup, with the coilovers it's one unit which simply bolts to the damper mounts.
On my previous Sierra I risked it and just fitted them.....
.....however after having them fitted for a year or so the seam sealer around the inner wing and floor had cracked. Possibly due to the increased stress in different areas. On the rally and touring car this wasnt a problem as the rear cage tie in with the strut top to reinforce them. However I've got no cage and don't want one.
So I've bought a steel bar and some box/rectangle section. The plan is to weld the bar across the top mount and the box section from the inner wing to floor and across the top of the struts too. Like this.....
Should I stitch weld the box or run a bead along the whole length? Plus any other advice before I go crackers and ruin the shell LOL!
Thanks Robin
