There where 2 reasons why i didn't run up the hill at the Gathering last week.
One was that i didn't want to miss out on a lot of stuff at the Gathering (but still failed) and the second one was that i was going to attend a hillclimb in Belgium the week after the Gathering, same sort of road, but no epic show around it to miss.
The weather forecast wasn't great, so i took a set of skid tires to have fun, instead of my normal semisicks i use on the car when used in anger. The road is very bad, but i had so much fun going sideways where i could (and the crowd loved it as well!)
I don't have a lot of pictures, because i spent most of the day queing in the line for a run (did 8 in the end).
here are some pics from the 'park fermé':
This Abarth was a bit sick, it chucked all of it's oil out on the straight to the first corner, and later i heard it has a broken crank
Ex 24h Spa Francorchamps winning car
This thing is someting very special. It's a 60s Goggomobil with the running gear of a NSU TT. 123 bhp and a 6 speed gearbox. Mental car!
In the end i ran a 1.23 as a best time, the fastest of the day did 1.09 with a modern 4wd Porsce 911.
I had LOADS of fun, the skid wheels where perfect, i had no real grip in the rear, but enough to give me confidence to push the car, but also to entertain the spectators!
Only downside is, there's no real road next to it, so the spectators have to walk alongside the course to go up to the viewing areas. Luckily the event is relatively low key, because it can't handle LOADS of people, that won't end well like this, i had a couple of nnear misses because of some people standing/walking where i didn't expect them.
2 movies. I've got a couple of onboards, but not yet processed them.
On the first movie, i pull away gently and then get into massive wheelspin while shifting to 2nd. I just kept my fot planted, because the car was controlable, and it scared off some people walking on the road, because they saw my car sideways on the straight
