BMW e21 Shot of the engine would help with model Id, it's probably a 316/318 though.

I'm not sure to be honest, general pic will confirm if its a 4cly or 6cyl if you can get the last 7 digits of the vin number a guy on here can give you the full spec list.

There was also a 315 these days. IIRC the six cylinders (320&323) all had the exhaust pipe almost in the middle, not to the left. thought that was just e28's? had a few of these 4 and 6 cyls and apart from the 323i the pipe exited from the left?

I spy rear drums, does that signify anything? Means its not a 323 from my research, pretty sure this is a 320 as I remember it having a carb

Well if it's got 4 cylinders it's an m10, if it's got 6 it's got an m20, why make it harder than it is?
Lovely bimmer btw, just needs to be a tad lower ;D

I'll bet it's a 320 6 cyl carb. Rear drums and one exhaust tip, not a 323i. Dual lights, not singles, means it should be a 6 cyl, or the lights have been swapped.

Took it for an "MOT" yesterday, only failed on not having a third brake light. Carb defo needs a tune/rebuild and the drivebelt broke on the way the back so I hope the HG hasn't gone. Here it is outside the MOT station:
