So I've been offered a good px for my '78 Roller Silver Shadow with a '66 Mustang hardtop. Now I'm thinking if I can get a GT500 bodykit for the mustang then I'll take it. Anyone had experience with mustangs of this year - good drive? reliable? I use my Roller everyday so economy doesn't bother me. Also if you know where I could get a si Similar bodykit to the GT500 or 350. Also pics for inspiration to help in decision

If you referring to the 'Eleanor' type GT500 body kits they are for the '67/8 Mustangs and not for the '64-66 ones so they'll not fit. They drive okay so long as like everything else they are well maintained. Parts are plentiful and I would guess miles cheaper than those for a Rolls and they are very reliable. Fitting something like Pertronix ignition makes a lot of difference, kind of fit and forget. I had that fitted to my Impala, it was transformed. Beware of damp carpets though, the early Mustangs have a nasty rust trap where moisture and leaves etc get into the body via the air intake in front of the windscreen and then it rots quite badly. So you may think that maybe the windscreen leaks but it can be much much worse than that.

There isn't a body kit on the original Shelby GT as said. However Carol Shelby has started doing a "continuation series" recently of taking early Mustangs and upgrading them with a performance package and this may include some body kit stuff I forget, but I don't think the kit is available separately. Shelby is pretty quick to sue these days so there won't be a copy either if there is...
Personally I'm not a great fan of modern style body kits on older cars. There are a few about though. Combine with 22" chrome wheels for the "Chav who won the lottery" look
As said again they do rust, and get nicknames "Rustang" by some in the USA... Not sure if they rust any worse than anything else of that era though.
They get bump steer when worn and when lowered this is worse unless you sort the geometry out when you do it.
I have an issue of a Mustang magazine somewhere which explains all that in detail

Cheers guys, yes the Eleanor style look, always loved it and can't afford a genuine gt500 anytime soon so.. This guys has been stood for a while and needs an mot but detailed pics everything seems ok and it drives fine. I'll be sure to check those spots that you guys mentioned.

Is it a Fastback or 'just' a coupe? Won't look right if it's a notchback.

Personally speaking I'd take the Silver Shadow any day. Love them. If you really want a GT 500 shouldn't you wait until one comes along (or at least the same body shape)? Just trying to put things in perspective.
