Well, my ps2 has been in storage for about a year pr so, i figured its time to dig it out and treat myself to a new racing game. Whats good at the moment? I always favoured a slightly arcade feel to driving games, the last one i had was need for eed underground. (poor cars, but the game was ok) Can anyone recomend anything? Heres a pic in appology for going OT ;D

I take it you've got the daddy GT4?
I love Driver Parralel Lines. Smoking around in old American Muscle Cars and funnily enough Toymota celicia's

nope, not got gt4. I liked the first one, but was a bit dissapointed after that, i thought it got a bit long winded and didnt drive as well. But as i said, ive no experience with gt4. I take it its good?

i thought driver parallel lines was very dissapointing compared to the rest in the series, poor graphics, rubbish missions, very easy to complete and a boring map that looked the same every where you go with barely a slope or hills like driver 3 had. GT4 is ace, plenty retro too.

looks liek another vote for gt4. I have played a couple of the old driver games, wouldnt say they were bad, just there were always better driving games about.

I havent played on my PS2 for well over a year but GT4 was the best then and I don't think I have heard of any better ones coming out. It was so good it even had its own category started about it on here The land of Make believe I think it was called

See I loved driver 3 as well but prefer Parallel lines as the music is better and the cars are better. I'm nowhere near completing it infact I mainly just tear around like I wish I could in real life and get chased by the police.
Buy GT4 its Fapping awesome!! Awesome retro's on there as well!

GT4 is the daddy.
I've been playing Tourist Trophy almost exclusively for a while now - made by the Gran Turismo bods but it's all bikes.
6:45 on the Nordschleife on a bike. Beat. That.
Even better - 7:12 on a 250cc.

I always do quick bursts on arcade mode when ever my ps2 comes out. Seem to end up putting 'need for speed 1' on, for two player fun. GT4 is good but i really need to play it properly one day...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Not strictly on topic but if anyone has GTA VC on the PC you can get a mod called 'Final Justice' which replaces all the cars with real ones, high detail and more realistic handling characteristics too.

GT4 is about the best driving game IMO. However there are several points that let it down.

GT4 is the undisputed heavyweight champ but for something thats more 'pick up and play' you cant go wrong with Toca Race Driver 3. Lots of variation in vehicles/cups and circuits.

I won't be there when you cross the road, so always use the Green Cross Code.

we've only got an xbox but me and the girls love Project Gotham Racing 3. Lots of nice retro cars and yank muscle too. Anyone got both GT4 and PGR and can compare. My youngest likes the points for drifting, 360's and shunting cars outta the way on PG3. They both always go sraight for the 'rarri's etc when they race me so I fire up my Integrale or stratos and try and smoke em round the ring!

you see, this is my doubts about gt4, i like fun racing games, i think gt got a little too serious. However, its easy for a fun driving game to end up being way too easy and loose all its apeal (sp).

but GT4 (and most of the previous GT's i imagine) are labelled as a driving simulator - therefore, the more serious and realistic the better.

yeah i know, and i did love the first one, its just finding the right balance between driving sim and racing game.

Oddly I found that GT4 wasn’t serious enough – the cars and tracks are great (living up to its billing as driving simulator), but the level of competition and structure of many of the championships leaves something to be desired IMO. I want it to be a struggle to work my way through, but all too easily you amass loads of cars and there’s no real challenge (unless you aim for 200 A-spec point races or try to perfect the ‘Ring). It’s still very good though, and it kept me busy for a loooonnggg time.
I did buy the latest TOCA Race Driver thing for PS2 earlier this year – it was OK and the races were more eventful having more cars in them plus damage, but I felt it didn’t compare to GT4. Maybe I should give it another bash, haven’t played either for a while now.

Hmmm I spend most of my time on GT4 racing that one race in Special conditions where you win a weird Toyota 4wd thing thats worth 300K then spending the money buying random cars and racing em round the ring LOL
