Do any of you know about VW water cooleds?
Ive got a mk1 rocco, the head was shagged. My friend gave me a mk2 head, these have hydraulic lifters. The also have one extra oil return, so we blocked the extra oil return and fitted it to my mk1 engine. The rocker cover is filling with oil, getting pushed up the breather and down the carb. I cant believe its filling the rocker cover, surely mk2 heads cant flow THAT much oil? It still has 3 oil returns, around 15mm in diameter.
Any ideas?
Worst comes to the worst ill run the breather into a catch can, but where to return the oil?

I assume it didn't do that with the original head? What was shagged about it anyway?

Chronic valve seat regression on number 1 exhaust valve Buy a new rocker cover gasket and bring it down to the workshop on Saturday It might be worth getting a rocker cover off a later car with the mesh under the vent pipe from the scrappy as well.

My polo Coupe S did this when I first got it. We put a good quailty engine flush through seemed to clear the problem.

I'm goint ot bring it down saturday so i can fit the spoiler ;D Will the polo be there? I'm working in the morning now, but should be down by lunch. Ill try flushing it, i don't think it did this with the origional head, although it did burn oil and was worse at high speeds. I'm also on the case for a mk2 cam cover, hopefully with a flush and a late cover it should be cool.

It should be - the plan is to get the Porsche taken home, take it off the lorry and swap it with the Polo, then Polo down to workshop Have you got the plastic thing that's on the head in the foreground of this picture?

Yeah, i fitted that. Its better, but not solved. I just text andy as he's breaking a mk2 but he don't want to split the motor up. I might hit a breakers this afternoon and see what i can find When i fitted the baffle i forgot to check the main oil return hadnt got blocked That could still be the cause i guess.

That's the back of my garage at home If you do go down the scrappy, will you see if they've got any unscratched Mk2 Polo windscreens?

Thanks! It'll be nice when it's chuffing finished! Greame (67) is going to help get it ready for primer. As soon as it is it's going down to my new workshop to be painted, then it'll have to wait for money to pay for its roll cage.

well, i checked the oil ways, replaced the gasket again and all is good. I flushed the oil system but havent changed the oil yet as the sump plug is stuck. Ill sort it though. After checking everything over i really do think the cam cover is the culpret. Just need to find one now. Shouldnt be too hard i guess.

I'd just go and pov one and tell them it was in a back seat or something. You have far too many morals!! My usual tactic is to go and say "I need some bits of trim" then they let you into the yard on your own...

mk2 cam cover fitted, along with the proper mk2 cam baffle and after a quick 85 mph blast (on my own personal stretch of A road ;D) i can confidently say the problem is solved ;D ;D
