Hi everybody! I thought it was time that my Eunos broke cover....I bought it in May this year, but have kept it quiet for a while till I was happy with it, hence the name! "The Secret" was an impulse buy one lazy Sunday morning....casually surfing ebay and this turned up, finishing in 45 mins and looking cheap....Long story short, I won it at £670 with tax and test- not cheap now, but back in May it was a bargain! ;D After a bit of trouble contacting the seller to collect it, we finally got to collect it...when we got there, I wasn't that pleased....it was described as needing tlc to the body....in actual fact, the lacquer was peeling all over the car and it looked a right mess. I was going to moan about it, but then the woman said that it was her dads car and that she was selling it as he was seriously ill in Hospital, so I figured I'd just take the car and keep quiet... Also, it came with lightweight Enkei RP01 alloys, a Nardi leather steering wheel and a Nardi leather gear knob, so I couldn't moan too much! Grabbed a couple of shots on the way home as we stopped to walk the dog You can see the peeling lacquer and the filth all over it...we'd just picked it up looking like this! The plan was to throw some paint on it and flip it to make some profit, but after the drive home (and the missus declaring that she loved it!) I decided that I'd keep it and have some fun for the summer... First job was to replace the roof- the zip around the window broke after about 48hrs.... ...not too bad though, got a good used roof on the frame for £100 and I fitted it while Mrs. dasterdley watched the royal wedding. No pics I'm afraid.... So there it was...an unplanned car that looked rough and stood as high as a Hilux! at least it's a good colour!

So the next couple of months were spent just smoking it around with the roof down and not really worrying about it cos it looked rough anyway! But, deep down, the paint was making me feel like this..... Something had to be done! I spoke to my friend, who's a sprayer by trade and he agreed to let me prep the car outside his unit, then he would lay the paint down for cheaps....result! So, almost instantly, I broke out the 800 grit and started on the back.... But the lacquer was so bad that the 800 grit wasn't really making much difference, so I gave up and went to a BBQ.... A few weeks later, the work began properly. On a sunny monday morning the stripdown began.... Followed by a little flatting with some 180 grit on the DA.... In the booth and ready for some primer more later....

Lol! Sorry man! Here's the next installment.... Ok, last time, the Secret was sitting in the booth ready for primer....my amigo wasted no time in laying it on....see him in action! Soon, the primer was on and guide coated, half yellow, half purple.... at this point, my 2 days off work to get the whole car painted had finished and I had to get back to earning money, so my mate flatted it off for a small fee! Looking smooth! and the next day after work, I went over helped get the car back into the booth and the screen remasked- at this point I dicovered that the screen had cracked at some point, probably when I was DAing the screen surround! Joy! Anyway, we got to work and soon, this was happening..... And we're done! And a couple of days later, I went round after work and.......... It's back together!

And that was that for a while....we just drove it for the rest of the summer and I tried to suppress all thought sof modifying it....until one day, mrs dasterdley saw a stanced mx5 and randomly said to me " you really need to lower the spazda!" Obviously, with full mrs. approval, I got onto it straight away and a quick look on mx5nutz netted a set of almost new Meister R coilies- the guy had just finished his Eunos, took it for an mot and found it was seriously rotten! But, his loss was my gain and I shot down to Weston Super Mare to pick them up....nearly £500 quids worth of coilies....I've never spent so much on suspension, they're bloody good though! And while I was there, I bought some cow skin seats as well They're in good condition as well Next up, the seats and coilies went in.. Fronts done.... All done! And the obligatory under the trailer shots....... And the seats So, I'm feeling pretty pleased with it at this point, so the plan was to just use it, but the MOT ran out.... And when I took it for a test, it failed! Damn! But only on a wheel bearing....a nice , cheap fix you'd think... Actually no! you have to buy the whole hub, whch wound up costing me £90!!!!! At least it's tested now...... Then, some casual surfing of the classifieds uncovered some wheels....nice, deep dish spokey wheels with good tyres- I snapped em up and stuck em on....they're ET25, so fill the arches more than the Enkeis and they're in great condtion and they really transformed the car (in my opinion!) And that's how the Secret stands at the moment....I reckon it's finished for the mo, but who knows? It could maybe do with a stainless exhaust or maybe a rollbar But either way, Xmas and the january tax bill means that's it for the moment......Hope you like it!

Used to own a white MX5 but Mariner Blue is quickly becoming my favourite colour for them having seen cars like this.

That's a little beauty right there, isn't it! Makes me want to repaint mine. A bad sign as haven't even had the logbook back yet. Good effort on getting it turned around that quickly!

Guys, thanks for all the positive comments! "The Secret" is rapidly becoming my favourite car in my fleet....I keep feeling like it should maybe go a tad lower, but I reckon its gonna stay as it is- it gets over those silly pillow speed bumps without too much fuss and I'm getting too old for crawling over them these days! ;D It does need a good mop, but I'm gonna leave it till next year when I get the rear sills chopped out and re-done- they are solid, but I took a look through the inspection holes in the rear arches and saw plenty of surface rust. Maybe a bit of overkill, but it's probably best to catch it before it turns nasty! Having said that, it still very solid for one of these, so generally I'm very happy!

Well, today you find me a little bit upset....pulling into my drive today I had a little incident.... My neighbours had visitors who had parked across their half of the dropped kerb- fair enough, they weren't parked over my drive, but it meant that I couldn't take my usual shallow angle up into my drive.... Which resulted in a nasty scraping noise and this....... And here's a closer view... GRRRRR!!!! I have no idea why I didn't roll the arches when it was being painted.....

Now that has come out really well (haven't looked in since it was sprayed) Shame about the wheelarch, but it does look the dogs, especially that rear 3/4 shot ^^
