Ok..motor in the new scorpihack is the much beloved (maybe) 2.0 16v dohc lump that also came in the escort rs2000. Can anyone recommend any upgrades to allow me to gain a little more momentum? Also, anyone got a spare mt75 box? thanks for your time..

I don't think there's much support for these - I'd go with spangly plugs, leads, nice filter, can't think of much more. There was one in PPC running a turbo at some crazy power level but AFAIK they're not supported by tuners in any which way

the escot rs2000 engine is the I4 lump, the dohc hengine is slightly different.
the 2.3 engine out of the scorpio is the I4.
prone to blowing gaskets and eating timing chains.
theres not really a lot that can be done with the DOHC lumps like, never really a common engine swap into anything and doesnt really have a lot of aftermarket bits.

You can turbo them and I'm pretty sure cams etc are available for them. The RS2000 came with 150bhp so shouldn't be that bad as standard. Easiest option would be Manifold and exhaust and an airfilter.
always fancied putting one of these engines into a mk2 escort Van.

Total money drain tuning one of these imo. Hold out for the turbotechnics kit.

They're all I4s, and they're all slightly different. Induction kit and cams are available, and several people have turbo'd them with great success (a FSOC bloke races an 8v one running over 200BHP). (I curse word ye not, I've seen the rolling road printouts). Ashley do an exhaust manifold for the Sierra 8v which may fit - ask on the FSOC forum. Feel free to PM me, I'll help where I can (been running 8v I4s for six years), with an I4 you need to ignore 90% of what some "experts" will tell you!

Yeah the word is, while they're a good engine, tuning them is a difficult and expensive exersize. If you really want more power i'd stick in a 2ltr zetec in its place, which is a far more tuneable engine. Turboing it with cosworth engine management would see you past 300bhp, or if you just want a mild tune, cams and other tuning mods are available for N/A with good results.

Mmmmm I am sensing some I4 hatered! IMO they are awesome engines (espcially the 2.0 and 2.3 16v ones) chain driven, hard as nails, perfect for turbocharging. I believe the turbotechnics kit quoted 160 bhp if used on the 2.0 8v engine which is pretty good Ford used the 2.0 16v in there escort rs2000 mk6 MAXI rally cars tuned to 280 bhp NA. Tuning parts are avaiable if you know where to look! (anyone remember Lax Powers bright pink mountune engined project RS2000)

Yep i remember that thing, was in the show room up the road at 'Xtreme' for a few months. Funnily enough was chatting to Tom (TCSPerformance) about the I4 engines the other day, he's clued up about all things Ford. As said, they generally eat timing chains and are expensive to tune, better off with a Zetec, with a few very easy mods you should see around 150bhp from a cooking mondeo engine.

Ah so you do listen to me when i start rabbiting on about blue oval engines ^^ :-). Its certainly not unheard of the I4 to have a noisy chain. I believe the tensioners don't recieve enough oil, i know some people have drilled out the oil holes in the tensioners to get a bit more slippery stuff though. I have seen good power from them but when you consider that a 2.0l zetec will drop straight in place and with all small pile of cash it can be develpoing 170-180 bhp. 4 wires to put in to run the zetec loom and voila, shes a good-un. If you reall do wanna try to get some more power to start with you want all the RS2000 bits, throttle body, ad ecu as the RS2000 (N7A engine code) has 150 bhp but the Scorpio (N3A) has only 136 bhp. The main difference is the escort runs EEC-IV mangement but the Scorpio runs super eco-friendly EEC-V management. EEC-IV is more mappable and therefore the best route to go down for power. I could go on for hours, if you do wanna ask anything feel free :-)

just out of curiosity then, and i'm just musing aloud here, what the heck is the casting on the plenum(?) chamber on the scorp that says system VI all about? Also, how many RS2000 bits... Will the zetec match up to an mt75? and how much of an electrical nightmare am I going to find myself in?

Hey, sorry I haven't replied, I'd got a mate on the case sorting out a list of parts & prices....and it seems he just can't get hold of much I4 tuning stuff any more. The cams fitted to his non-turbo, 170BHP Scorpio engine (residing in a white Sierra wagon!) cost £350 a couple of years ago....now ther're special order only, £670 +VAT. Like TCS says, RS2000 bits look like the only sensible way to go. I actually found out last night that the bloke my tuned Sapphire originally came from only sold it because he'd swapped the exhaust, exhaust manifold and air filter, then couldn't afford to make it go any faster... Still, my mate is ringing 'round etc, as several people have asked him for I4 stuff lately. Just looks like they're getting even dearer to tune.

no worries mate, also I've been enquiring about haw easy it is to swap an mt75 in place of the a4dle box, though it may be the a4dl,and apparently its nightmare, for some reason i'd have to use the 2.3 loom etc..I was just looking for a way of getting some cheap power, the car only cost £150 so spending £700+ on cams isn't really on the cards. Hunt for RS2000 bits it looks like then, unless the zetec really is an easy swap?
