I should be collecting a Nova next week with a little help from Minidan, but I have a dilema. I have been looking around for inspiration (see below) but it seems that Nova Mk1 hatch and saloon are accepted but the Mk2 is still firmly in the chav stage or standard runabouts. The car is fairly tidy 1.2i with plenty of MOT and four new tyres, so do I stick with it and hope the image gets better and work on a style or sell it as a daily to someone and get something more retro. My concern is that with the image problem it will just sit in the garage not getting used as I would be too embarrassed to drive it. The top one is what I don't want to end up with, please help!

Everything that works on a mk1 nova will work on a MK2, but it is also easy enough to mk1 a mk2

I should imagine everything that works on a polo would also work. I've never been more terrified than in my mates old Nova Van. C20LET bored out to 2.1 Nitros Oxide Stage 3.5 tuned. Omg.

Clean, rust free, mild lowering, Speedlines. As much as I love the euro look, to me this would be my perfect Nova. Matt

If you're really concerned, it's quite easy to pre-facelift a Nova - headlamps, indicators, grille, wings, bumper are all bolt on and can be swapped easily

Get a set of these wheels. Lower it a bit, make it superclean and stay away from too much bodycolour bling and you should have a super nice retro hatch. Like Soopahfly says, anything that works on a Polo (and really, there's plenty of those out there for inspiration) can and will work on a Nova. Do what you want, pick out the bits of the car you like and try not to think about how other people will percieve the car. After all, it's your ride and you should do it your way. The rule of K.I.S.S. applies well to the Nova.

A Nova is a Nova as far as I'm concerned. As with any car, you can get it wrong, or you can get it right

Novas are well past the chav stage IMO. Plenty of potential, and becoming pretty cool

Nova's are great. clean and OEM or tastful period modified I wouldnt personally attempt to run wheels with low offsets/poke as it looks shocking on a square arched car.
That red/grey 2 tone one has it just about right for me to think.. corr nice car.

novas are great little cars. my first car in fact... flame red '90 1 litre "trip" I had for 18 months when I was 18/19 was ace.... in fact the newest car ive ever owned by far, was just 9 years old when i bought it for £1250... lowered it on cut springs, 1300 sr front antiroll bar, 6x13 cavalier alloys painted gun metal grey, 185 60 good year eagle ga tyres all round. body coloured bumpers mirrors etc.... apart from the horrid gutless pushrod engine..... fond memories...

Matt It is easy to forget that the Nova is actually a good looking car. This photo proves that. It all comes down to you; if you fundamentally really don't want a Nova, then spending lots if time, money and effort to make it a really good one would perhaps be better spent on something you actually do want. But if you decide to keep it, then I think they can be made to look pretty good. David

Nowt wrong with a Nova 1 or 2 in my honest opinion.
They are a rare sight on the roads these days which is a shame.

Gentle drop, Revo's or GSi slabs, nice 'clean' subtle paint job and an SRi 130 engine. Less is more is probably the best way of putting it.
Thankfully the days of some horrifically awful bodykit being lashed on, a full scale replica of Runcorn bridge nailed to the boot and some neons glued to the sills are pretty much long gone.
