Hi folks , been bumming around looking at cool 70's motors on here for a while and have decided I need a tax exempt bus.. , whilst I love the Nippon motors (had a 72 TA22 Celica) and old Fords ..a 71 Escort ..i'm now put off by the top prices these classics can make if in generally good nick , what I'm surprised is at is the low costs of pre 72 Saabs and Volvo's , am I reading it wrong or are these motors seriously good value for a cool 70's wheels? I have no knowlege of either brand (other than they look cool) so any opinion is welcome..

No scene tax ;D
You can never go wrong with an old Saab/Volvo, just go for something you like the look of. I'm a little bias towards a Voovoo though. As the GLC would say: "Safe as f*ck"

No, you are not reading it wrong, the volvos in particular ARE really good value, and really good cars too. The earlier description of them being "well mannered" was perfect. Nice, solid civilized cars. You might think they'd harder to drive being so old but apart from the steering being a bit more vague there wouldn't be too much difference in ease of driving and ability to cope with modern driving (speed/operation wise) between one and an early sierra before the power steering and all round disc brakes were available.
