Hi all, I've loved this site for what seems like years now, and posted about finding my perfect vehicle on this very forum. I didn't give up the hunt and kept looking on the usual forums and Ebay for that vehicle that would scratch that itch. So aside from piccies everyone likes a story, I've been heavily into Vw's for many years and I guess a good few Vw fans find their way into the American scene eventually. I toyed with Yank Trucks a while back when I was skint (not a wise move) a super clean F plate F150, sold it soon after and regretted it so hankered after another Truck but wanted an older model. This cropped up on Ebay a few times, I rang the owner who said despite loads of Ebay msgs and texts I was the first one to actually speak to him, i agreed to bob down and have a look. It was everything I wanted in a Truck really, I'm not a loud shouty person and have quite good restraint so the name above "Alter ego" fits quite well as this truck is low and loud, Very shouty and very very loud. The owner turned the key and without saying anything to him I'd already bought it in my mind  The test drive it was baking hot, the collection day was torrential rain, the gap in the lower windscreen rubber wasn't kind to me !! It sways all over, is ear splitting loud with a constant thud of the exhaust and feels like it's gonna drop to bits if I hit 60mph (that's if I knew how fast I was going) but......I love it, my kids love it and most importantly for happy vintage vehicle ownership, for the first time in roughly 200 Vw's I've owned......my wife loves it enough waffle, piccies (i'm sure someone on here will know it already) I'll list its faults in another post :shake: Untitled by C10 Glenn, on Flickr Untitled by C10 Glenn, on Flickr Untitled by C10 Glenn, on Flickr Untitled by C10 Glenn, on Flickr

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
This from a reply above sums up what I'm trying to achieve, "" I would buy something you enjoy, and will retain its value.""
The NSX/GTR and Porsche had me nodding, I promised myself I'd own a Porsche one day
but the Aston made my insides tingle !! An Aston...really ?
I'm off to research :-)

Before I ask this question I'll clarify I LOVE cars, I spend far too long searching Ebay, C & C, RR and a few others just "looking" for cars. I'm not a sneak trying to make a quick buck on a car flip. Some love Footie, or Rugby, I love Cars.
I have a sum of money coming to me soonish following a family bereavement (£25k)
I can do one of a few things, Bank it, put it in ISA's or similar bond type things, or buy a car I want/like with the knowledge it will hopefully hold its value come the time I wish to sell it. I know there's no guarantees but I don't just wanna chuck the money away.
I have a deep love for Yank motors in general, but would look at J, Porsche or something interesting. I don't tend to like British vehicles and have owned over 100 VW's, only a Splitty has eluded me thus far so I'm not too fussed about chucking my investment money into a VW.
I've considered the following
Tri 5 Chevy Charger/Challenger Porsche (man they are expensive) VW Splitty despite my comments above
So RR what can you offer and suggest,
Many Thanks

Some of you may have wondered which loon bought the recently advertised "project" on the internets, yep that's me. I've been into VW's for a long time, dabbled once into Ford F150 ownership but tight funds meant a quick sale of a very tidy truck, I returned to VW's then I was without a Classic for a good long while. Recently I'd craved "something" but with no idea what I kept searching and searching, even writing lonely heart style threads on here and suggesting buying a Tank !!! It's always better to browse the Internet with a beer so off I went hitting the usual forums and auction sites and stumbled on my current chariot. The side shot on the net sold it for me and after a back n forth with the seller I was pretty certain I'd be buying it. Arrangements were made to view..........wait........what........you're 3.5hrs away.......a 7 hr round trip. Work commitments soon conspired against me but luckily a close pal came up trumps with a low loader suggestion, The only issue now was I was buying the truck blind, off some pictures from the Internet........we've all done this before right ? Well I had, once. A gorgeous Mk1 VW Caddy, almost pristine with a wonky gearbox. Enjoyed that pickup and only sold to fund a Holiday. So money paid and I wait patiently for the truck to arrive today, I finally get the call from my mate who will undertake the resto, I say resto it'll be a "keep as is" but make it road legal. I arrive to see this.....................glad I didn't buy a Tank now. It does need some work but has (i'm assured) a good 6.2 diesel engine under that rusty but very cool bonnet. questions and "wanted" will follow but we all love pics so................... and a proper Truck horn pull Plans wise, keep it looking the way it is, I'm very much more Roadkill than fresh paint. Get it put back together, mot and enjoy for now. More details as we progress. cheers

My son loves COE's, I'm not a big fan, not sure why.
LOVE the tank but daily I think it'd be quite hard to live with
I've looked at that Panel van quite a few times, do like them alot
as for budget, i'm being cautious at £10-£15k but if the absolute right thing came up it could be more

I got that green light this time last year. Went from a 2 car family to 5 cars! I am just wondering if your requirements are a bit too mixed? Reading your first few lines i came up with a nicely done Transit or T3/4/5, i even saw what i considered a very nice Connect at the weekend! Anything Yank Pick-up then came from the next lines, then i re-read them and you went too far and I'm now confused! Geoff. Geoff, YOU'RE confused, how about me haha That's the problem I think, I want too many vehicles rolled into one.

Yes, as the title suggests the wife has uttered the phrase every husband wants to hear, "oh just get what car you want" and she does mean it.
from a previous thread I need my next purchase to work as a daily mode of transport, allow some kind of advertising on it (it could just be the car is so crazy it advertises itself, or down to a bumper sticker) and not have the price tag of a Lambo.
I'm not into shiny, I want loud mixed with a Welderup/Roadkill/Dirt every day style. I seem to gravitate towards Yank stuff but I am genuinely struggling to find something to tick all them boxes.
My initial thought was some mad monster truck? a pal has also suggested a Tank but as a daily it might prove awkward (a guy locally does have and does drive a Tank on the roads so it's not an impossible suggestion)
I'd love some help in picking an awesome next vehicle, i've trawled Ebay, Car & Classic, a few FB pages but can't find that "just right" vehicle
thanks for any help and suggestions

Thanks everyone for their opinion.
The crew cab sold and I showed my kids the other one and both said "ermmm, its ok (ish)" then both said "Dad just get a C10, you know that's what you want"
How can I argue with that!!

Go by condition. US seem to love filler in the bucketful so check carefully. Even relatively modern (say 10 year old) US trucks can be suffering with severe rot as they seem to be classed as disposable. If they have a chassis check just behind cab as this is the main stress point and in bad cases where the chassis breaks ! Welded cracks or overplating in this area and I'd walk away Good advice, i'll be sure to check out those areas, thanks

Can I have some opinions please.
I've seen two American trucks I like to get me into American vehicle ownership (i'd love to dive straight into an old hot rod or 57 Chevy but funds won't allow anything near that)
One is a 70's single cab that looks very original and is tax exempt, the other is a later 80's model but also has the rear cab seats so can take 6 people if needed meaning its much more versatile.
Head says double cab, heart says 70's styling and looks.
help !!!

Was the swap meet any good Glenn? New venue put me off :/ Hiya mate, It got good reviews on rods n sods. I wasn't going for anything specific and just wanted to enjoy the car park browsing. It was £5,ea for non members into the stalls area. There was no one doing your kinda thing so depending on pitch prices charged it may have been worth a go. Saying that it wasn't busy by any stretch. I took my lad so seeing a few cool cars was our only agenda really.

at the NSRA Northern Swap meet there were two cars, one a Black Bentley with a stack pipe poking out of the bonnet and what I thought was a mk3 Granada which was unbelievably low and missing its bonnet
anyone know more about either of these as I thought they both looked great
thanks in advance

i kinda stopped bothering to update it on here though as it seemed about 6 people read it and it got bumped down really quickly cos of all the update of people putting stickers on golfs and the like.... Dez, I think you vastly underrate the entertainment value this build brings us mere mortals, I don't comment but I do gawp in awe at the skills shown, i'm sure others do too so please please continue with the updates in both written and picture form as for stickering golfs, I think any ole mojo boost at times is needed, I know one of my caddys took on a real spurt after I applied an RR sticker !!!
