We had a trip to the local carboot a couple of weeks ago (Corbridge NE45, wednesdays during the summer), it seems to be a mix of traders (same ones every week) and "normal" folk" just spring-cleaning. Some weird and lovely items, some bargains, some would be cheaper to buy new SHMBO spotted (and got me to pay for ) an accordion in a case. A lovely bit of engineering, working fine, for £20 ( I had a look when we got back what they normally sell for ) Aplogies for the pic quailty, I was playing with the new toy not operating the camera !

Hi, I'm after a set of 14" steel rims, Ford 4x108 RWD fitment. Citroen BX rims would be interesting but I'm open to suggestions - what have you got ? Cheap if possible as they're for a budget daily driver (possible px for some Retro ICE - see my sig ) Also brackets and hinges from a Retro "lift out" sunroof ( damaged glass and / or frame is fine, I'm just after the fittings) something like remains of forum.retro-rides.org/thread/197713/cool-kingavon-universal-sunroof-surrey ? Happy to collect from RRG, or possibly North Wales or Tyneside'ish.

To the spring eye though definitely, might be quite a simple answer, cheers. Happy to help The original one I saw used an extra-long (double length) bolt through the front eye of the leaf spring. The new "tie bar" was made from box / tube, it had an eye at the front to fit over the "extra" bit of bolt (use another front spring bush? or Polybush?). A basic bit of boxing on the chassis to support the end of the longer bolt ( so it looks like an extra front spring support) The rear end of the "tie bar" was same as photos above, and clamped to the axle near the diff casing. Pics if / when done please, I 've been thinking about doing something similar to mine for a while

I saw something simple in one of the car mages (Classic Ford / Performance Ford ?) a few years ago, simple bolt-on triangulation from the front spring eye to the diff housing area. Seller "Caprisport Direct" has something similar for sale on that auction site. I'd think it would work better mounted at the front spring eye (onto solid chassis point) not part-way along the spring see item 222467589641 or search for "Capri Rear Axle Location Kit" all credit for the photos to seller "CapriSport" :

At the risk of derailing the thread ( my thread = my rules, and I'm sure the thread went off the rails - if it was on track to start with - somewhere on page #1 ) ... I've been touring the estate agents in a few different areas to see what's on offer. I had a look around the place below but have decided it would be "a bit silly" to take it on as a project Listed here for info & amusement as a few folk have mentioned an interest in churches, old pews, etc. Benefits : just a couple of miles way from Hexham (very posh !), cheap (£75k !!!), a lovely old chapel with some original woodwork inside, dry with solid walls, overlooking the village green I love it ! Downsides : Not listed for residential use, no parking so "very little chance" of getting planning changed to use it as a home Lots of work but that's to be expected. The following is a *another* Public Service Announcement for all Hunter owners Seller bobsyourfurkin has NOS panels (steel wing + door + doorskin) for sale on that auction website, all starting at 99p eg item 302382525738 , the auction still has more than a week left. They might work out as bargains for someone depending what the final price is and what he has reserve set at. Remember : "Shy bairns get nowt" (for Southerners & other non-civilised folk, this roughtly translates as "you'll never know unless you ask" ) ^ Nothing to do with me, hope it helps, etc etc... In other news, I might be spending a few days at Alston soon (possibly moving there full time from Septmeber), if anyone around that area has any words of wisdom feel free to PM me

^ I think I might be on-track to get the use of a house near the Lakes (if I turn down a house I've been offered cheaply in Newcastle - a chap living near the Lakes can move there - and he's offering me his place as it will be empty and he's paid in advance for a few months) Sometimes it's the simple things that make me happy my ex was here earlier ( < errm ... reword later? maybe! ) A few weeks ago she asked me to work out what was needed to swap the rear doors around on her Iveco coach / camper. The righthand (RH) door opens first, then you can open the lefthand (LH) door. Normally this is ok but in her camper there's a built-in bed blocking the RH door, and the factory lock is acting up and won't alway open (or lock again afterwards) My plan was simple - unbolt the LH door - fit new hinges so LH door hangs off the RH door - the dodgy RH door then becomes a "spare" door. With me so far? I got the new hinges etc, painted them (posh as it's not for my car )... The coach turned up today, we went out and confirmed the doors are "handed" - then noticed they are built up from a flat panel with edges added 10 minutes later - remove the "center" trim from both doors, swap the "LH - inside" trim with the "RH - outside" trim, doors then work the way she wants - and RH door becomes the "spare" door no changes needed. Add a couple of decent locks in the inside of LH door and we're done ps. does anyone want / need a set of nicely painted hinges? I've got a spare set going cheaply No visible changes so need to repaint or touch-up. Smart

These cute vans & estates have been on my radar for a while, today I had a look around one from the 60s that might be up for sale soon It's on the original engine (1057cc ?) and sounds like it's in well sorted "daily use" condition. Any words of wisdom from the collective before I do something daft (dafter than usual?) * My only experience of older Vauxhalls was a Viva HC many years ago. Slow, low-power, but it just refused to die. My type of car Questions have been asked in the past about engine swaps forum.retro-rides.org/thread/192335/viva-ha-engine-swapsWheels? (4x100 13s - same as later Vauxhalls ?) Spares & weak points? Mick Wilkes with his HA Bluebell was one of the stars from RRG for me Same body, badged as a Bedford Beagle Not an estate/van, but it's SO cute

I prefer 70s stuff or earlier, anything that has survived til now is nearly 50 years old so "most folk" see it as old, this means valuable right? Hence an MOT failure rust bucket (aka unfinished project) is advertised for £1k because that's what they have been told it's worth, when it fails to sell it goes to the banger racers or the scrapyard. More recent suff (I rate small 106s/Saxos from the 90s as cheap dailies) are worth a couple of hundred as scrap so anything that look like it might pass an MOT is advertised nearer £500. Our last one then needed £300 to fix worn suspension/driveshafts/tyres/brakes, which was about what we had paid for the "recently overhauled - all worn parts changed" car when we bought it Bargain? Hmmm Look at the costs to fix up a mot failure (brakes/suspension £300, exhaust £150, welding £200, paint £££ ) and folk know it's not worth trying to sell a "project" that needs work so it just gets scrapped. Anything more recent has lots of places for electrical gremlins to hide, waiting for a chance to jump out and bite you. Dashboard warning lights + MOT man = Reality check time! A mate recently got a new car and advertised his tidy 90s Toyota for £500. He eventually got fed up and sold it for £200 to somebody who wanted the wheels and was going to scrap the rest eg, body below has now been restored - seller isn't even going to get back what he has paid for bodywork + paint car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=2287&country=uk

Continuing our educational theme, I'd like to explain why my chosen work for today is : " SNAFU !" < we need more "not a happy teddy bear" icons > It can best be explained by moving house to a new town (ie Corbridge), unpacking loads of boxes, then getting a visit from the landlord after a couple of weeks to say the place has been sold and I need to move out at the end of the month. My diary now looks like : This week - arrange to pick up a spare engine for my car that I got offered when I visited a local car show last week Next week(?) - a trip to Wales to prep a house ready for sale (chainsawing 20ft weeds in the garden, stipping ivy from big house + 2 barns, lots more !), leading to July 20th - 28th (dates approx - may be longer) a different working holiday / house sitting gig in Wales - drive from Wales to North East - August 2nd - 16th Denmark for a coupld of weeks (holiday and city center street racing ) August 17th/18th a day off + drive 300 miles South, possibly via Midlands August 19th - a couple of weeks touring holiday starting with RRG17 Before September I also need to find time to : Find somewhere to live ! prep the car and get an MOT done (spare days are getting scarce) unpack a shiney new mountainbike I treated myself to at the weekend. I refuse to move house until I have had a chance to go out and play around the local muddy tracks ! Never a dull day ps. If anyone has a spare house needing work or a live-in security guard, PM me
