quatermass ..your post is just the same as me giving up on the ford scene...mostly the I can pay more than you And I’ll pay thousands for an old snotter brigade That became no longer a hobby I wanted to be in Sorry guys rant over It pees me off that the cars are mostly becoming over polished ornaments now, i am one of the old type owners who had and loved their cars before they became cool and only continue because I like the cars and not use them as a Willy waving contest like most I agree the whole ford scene was a better place when cars were selling for more affordable numbers. The cars I go to shows to look at are all in storage instead of hooning down the road to a show on a Sunday morning. As a result I just don't have the incentive to go to the shows that I wouldn't have missed 10years ago. Back on track my username explains itself. My name and fords upto 1990 being my car of choice for a few decades now. I first came up with that name when I first registered on ebay in about the year 2000 and I have used the same name on all sites since. I think I had a mk1 XR2 at the time.

My daily 15 year old bus got me to the south of France taking us 3000 miles altogether in 2 weeks. I limped home from Kent with a blown boost pipe but I wouldn't hesitate in jumping in it and going anywhere. It is not very appealing on the eye but it does everything I ask of it.

Fancied going to Le Mans for a few years now. Anyone get breakdown cover for the trip? I stuggled last summer to get cover on a car over 15 years old. Don't fancy taking a valuable car with no back up plan what if something unicorns make breaks enroute.

Yes most definitely! I've had this 620ti for the last 2 years and it's an absolute blast to own and very good at mile munching when needed too! That looks spot on. I have always fancied 1 of these, if only I could drop on one like yours.

Thanks. Just had half hour dressing the passenger side. The new panel. I am going to clean up inside the front arches a bit next before the front panel goes in while I have a little more access.

Well it has been a long time since I did anything with this mini. Yesterday I had an hour spare so I had a tidy up so I could get to it. Then it was off with the front panel. I then had to clean off the remaining bits of metal being held by the spot welds. I have still got the other side to do. I was never happy with the front panel and I happened across a genuine NOS one about 18 months ago and I think I would regret it if I painted it with the original one still on. I think the front panel was £45 off a local mini specialist who I have known for years.

This is pretty much how I'd have my red one. Top job as always mate. You'll be like a kid at christmas when you drive it Cheers I am pleased with how it's turned out. I test drove it on Wednesday night and did about 20 miles. Problems are that the exhaust is catching the floor mainly when pulling away and accelerating hard. I have a solution for this in the shape of an extra exhaust mounting and I forgot that the speedo cable was disconnected behind the clocks so I had to guess what speed I was going. The steering wheel shake is no better. I think I am going to get the wheels balanced again for piece of mind. Finally when on the motorway at decent speeds the temp gauge goes down to nothing. Possibly air in the system still. An afternoon should have these ironed out. However in spite of these little niggles the car performs well and is like going from a 1.1 to a 1.6 all over again. I decided to give the power run on the rolling road a miss due to the steering issue and will go when the above issues are sorted. I am thinking of 175/60/13 tyres for the steels to give me a bit more ground clearance and improve the ride. I could not get away with 185/60/13 without trimming arches and I don't fancy going down that route. Maybe when I have sold all the xr2 parts I have removed I will treat myself to a set. Then I will have pepperpots as an option should I fancy a change.

Before all this engine change started I had been suffering steering wheel shake at motorway speeds. There is a chance of a rolling road session later in the week and as I have had this problem with 2 different sets of wheels I am ruling those out. So after work today I thought I would attempt to set the tracking! My top quality gauges in my opinion are accurate to about 10 degrees and initial checks showed it to be 10 degrees out.lol So I spent around 2 hours faffing about with small adjustments and driving backwards and forwards I finally had a zero reading. Not that I think it is actually zero but hope it's closer than it was. I am not sure 10 degrees would give me steering wheel shake in the first place but we will see. I could just take it to a garage and pay to have the tracking done and throw mine in the skip! On previous experience of going to local garages to have it done they either have poor equipment or the guy using it does not understand how to use it correctly.

Thanks for the positive comments. Here are a few more pictures I took on Sunday. I need to test drive it and mop the paintwork.

I have had a decent afternoon on it today. First up was picking some coolant up and filling that up. Then put £20 fuel in it and managed to get the exhaust lined up and welded. I am not sure it is the finished article though as the downpipe is touching the front panel and it's close to the body underneath. Also I have not got an exhaust clamp to fit the rear section so it is just about on. I will get a fitted shot tomorrow as it was to dark. More importantly it was on well enough to see if it would run and it didn't loose me down, first turn of the key it was away settling nicely to a nice idle once the oil had got round to lifters. Happy days. Makes me wonder how this external pats works as I have just unplugged it and done nothing with the plug that went to it.

I also used a silicon 90 degree like you have until i had my tank modified to take a threaded fitting. I didnt have any issues but was warned it could break down over some time I know silicon is not supposed to be used with fuel but it's the only 90 degree I could find for sale. I had it off ebay and the description states it's for fuel as it has some other material inside. I will see how I go with it.

some work below 1/4 and some don't , but i can see why they may not , the pick up pipe could sit lower in the swirl pot i recon I agree and I think how close the swirl pot is to the bottom of the tank plays a part. The smaller the gap the better when low on fuel. Well I had a bit of a wait for my fuel pump as I didn't notice the seller was in Ireland and it took him a week to post it! How nice of him! So now I have it I got all the fueling finished. I discovered a couple of broken clips that secure the handbrake cable hence the sleeve of silicon pipe and zip ties. I am on the look out for the correct clips. I soldered the fuel cut off switch in so I could put the underside of the dash in order. The engine bay has not really changed to look at but apart from water, fuel and the exhaust I am ready to try and start it. The to do list is looking like this. 1. Mod and fit Puma gear linkage.2. Mod and fit the exhaust. 3. Wire up the main plug on the engine loom.4. Mod and fit water pipes.5. Somehow squeeze the air filter/MAF in. (Need to fit water pipes first to see what space I have)6. Fit ECU behind the dash.7. Wire a fuel pump circuit in.8. Modify fuel tank.9. Fit new fuel lines.10. Get tyres for the steels or swap the tyres off the pepperpots. (considering going for a slightly bigger profile) 11. Engine and gearbox oil to go in.

Had a few bits turn up today. As you can see I have swapped the bits off the original tank and fitted a fuel pump bracket from burton power. Need more parts to arrive. They should be here by Friday.

ive modded a few of these tanks to use the escort swirl pot and pump , works out well if you take your time and proberbly the best way ,. I would have preferred to modify the original tank with the internal set-up out of the donor vehicle but there are a couple of things stopping me. I never took the tank off the donor so don't have it to cut out what I need and secondly my tank I have removed today is not brilliant and while it does not leak I don't think it will be long. So I have opted for the injection tank from carpartsexpress as it is just £10 dearer than the standard new item. I have been advised that they don't work below 1/4 tank but then others say they do? So I will see how it goes. I have opted for the easiest and quickest option as I just want it running. I am starting to get ear ache off the Mrs and to be honest want it back inside before the weather goes really bad. I will only have the downpipe to modify after the fueling bits turn up and are bolted on. There is a local sprint day on next Sunday but I am being optimistic as I don't think I will make that due to waiting for parts in the post. Today I also ran the power and earth to where the pump is going to be. Just need to connect the cut out switch and put some ring connectors on the ends.

I would have fancied that manifold if I hadn't sorted everything around my current one. Today was mostly spent removing the old petrol tank and petrol pipes. The standard setup uses 8mm feed and 6mm return and the zetec needs 8mm both ways so thought while I was making one I would do a pair as these ones don't look brilliant. The main brake/petrol pipe clips on the floor should be ok with just 1 pipe being 2mm bigger but at the front there are 2 plastic clips that hold 1x 8mm and 1x 6mm pipe which is not going to work. Luck was on my side as I had some in stock from my concours RS16i days. These were coil lead clips off a RS16i and also fuel line clips off a cosworth. You can see the size difference. Each petrol pipe is roughly just over 2 meters long so I need to order 5 meters of 8mm kunifer pipe to sort it out.

Thanks. I would have brought a set if I had seen them before I made the ones up I have. I have just looked though and cannot find the post on XRtwo.
