I'm looking to do a couple of rear disc conversions and I want to use the VW 38mm rear calipers.
Anyone know how many different mounting / handbrake options there are?
Anyone got a couple of pairs with for sale cheap?

A guy told me of the long saga of having the rain sensitive screen changed on his new-ish Merc. Two different windscreen fitters and 3 screens later they worked out you had to have the driver's door shut for the system to work!

I am looking for £1500, but am open to offers.
Bear in mind that to buy just the kit with the bonnet new is over £1300 and thats without the doors (although these will need some repair work around the hinges). Then there is the history of the car etc . . .

Finally my ex-Thundersaloon HSR rep is up for sale. Photobucket - do your thing. . . . . . ![](http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn155/curryracer/HSR2013001_zps32d3d969.jpg) ![](http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn155/curryracer/HSR2013002_zpsc413040f.jpg) ![](http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn155/curryracer/HSR2013003_zps5f120125.jpg) ![](http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn155/curryracer/HSR2013008_zps5517b786.jpg) ![](http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn155/curryracer/HSR2013009_zpsa7f1f6fc.jpg) Brief history: Car was originally built as an HS rally car, then sold to a small team who raced it in Thundersaloons (class B - engines up to 2.5l). Series ended and car was passed through a number of hands before I bought it 3+ years ago to re-shell my Autocross car. Cue lots of welding and general bodywork. Car has body boxes for top links (standard lower mounts), large transmission and exhaust tunnel, high level exhaust exit, double skinned turrets, seam welded. Also included are the fibreglass bonnet, rear hatch and doors (very light compared to steel!), standard loom, dash, instrument cluster, centre vent with fuel and temp guage, column. Also available: ![](http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn155/curryracer/HSR2013012_zpse3e0d543.jpg) Standard (rusty) front crossmember, top and bottom arms. Includes part of chassis rail ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) HS works (?) style crossmember, Welded all over the place. Bottom arms bolt holes moved out by approx 1" each for wider track. Car will be at Billing VBOA next Sunday as shown along with any other spares I can find. 8)

Highly recommend these guys: www.enviroblastuk.com/aboutThey only did a part of my shell, but it was the worst bit of the tunnel covered in paint, burnt on oil/grease etc. Came out spotless and I've not had a problem with paint sticking to it since. Nearly 2 years and counting. Just have make sure its washed down properly after (soda is water soluble). They can take off paint a layer at a time if necessary and its doesn't affect glass / rubber. Call them for a quote. :-)

Nice plan :-)
What do you want for the hatch as a shell without engine etc?
Also, where in the land are you? (sent message on COG too!)

Interested to see what the strengthening kit is. I've seen quite a few cars with plated x-member and extra welding as well as plated upper and lower arms. What else do you get/do. Is it worth the extra weight??

Thanks guys, Good point about the extra thickness by the holes. Haven't looked that closely at the ones I have, but it makes sense.
I've looked at Disco/S1/S2/S3 wheels, but the tyres are a lot taller than the 185/70/14 I have now.
Also I have collected a few spare tyres that will go on my existing wheels. They come from Transits and the like, so are cheap and can carry a fair weight (about 1200kg per pair). Load rating 102/104.
Any idea of the load rating of the Disco road tyres?

Can anyone advise if it can/can't be done as I need a spare wheel for my trailer, but cant afford £100 for a wheel and tyre that don't match my existing ones.
I've got my eye on a couple of sets on ebay but either they are too big diameter (to fit Land Rovers) or wrong hub fitting.
The hub is Land Rover 5x165mm with huge centre bore, but existing two wheels are 7x14" weller 8 spokes.
Been looking for ages, but this size/fitting seem to be poor quality wobbly children's play pony poo or whatever the current phrase is!

Thats looking great. Always nice to see a project out in the daylight for a look-see.
Shame there are no plans to drop it on the floor. Surely someone can photoshop it ??

Which Elise calipers are you using Dom the S1 single piston or S2 twin piston? What is the weight difference?

Built mine to fit into my single garage with quite a low roof: ![](http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn155/curryracer/Image0168.jpg) ![](http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn155/curryracer/Image0012.jpg) Because mine doesn't lift the car very high, I just used a regular large trolley jack to lift up onto axle stands at their highest setting. Then bolted the front and rear mounts on and lifted each end up so I could slide the mounts onto the supports. Granted its not the most professional thing, but I've had a car on for a 3 years now and its not fallen off yet! Unfortunatley it doesn't quite turn the car all the way over, but thats because the car wont clear both the roof and floor at the same time. ;D

That looks great! Many congrats on getting this painted at last. Now - who said all those weekend spent at shows was wasted? You've managed to collect quite a pile of nice shiny things.
And did I spy a stray windscreen panel in one of those pics?

Did I miss the bit where it says what is an O1, O2 etc??
don't forget to read the small print regards "implementation date": *Unless your vehicle was built more than 3 months before the implementation dates above
Good luck with the build. It's always nice to see what people put on their own trailers compared to bought ones. My trailer is a converted caravan chassis (V. old), has LR hubs with cable brakes, 7x14 wellers with stretched tyres and a few extra ratcheting points.

That blue car looks lovely, even the Mrs said so!!
Got more info on the car: Its a T reg S4 saloon (so B5?) 181,000 miles in navy blue, recent tyres, tow bar, leather seats (standard fit I guess?) Its not been used in a while, but according to DVLA the vehicle status is "SORN not due" I guess that means it still has some tax on it. Not sure about MOT.
For me the insurance is only about £100 more than my family spec legacy estate, so its not too bad.
I've also just been to see a very nice A8 2.7 quattro with half the mileage for the same money so I am undecided whether to go for a nice bit of luxury or a sporty saloon.
I've had my Leggy for over 7 years now and have got a few long holiday trips to do this year so wanted something newer and a bit more spacious. I do need a tow bar occasionally, but can obviously get one for the A8.
It seems the S4s hold their money a bit better, but don't have the luxury car feel.
Help - I can't decide which to buy.
