That was the main reason I flogged my metro last month, it had one wing a different colour and a wheel trim missing so of course I got stick for it everyday. I'd bought it for £100 after selling my Jag to pay off a big bill. One of the guys I work with simply said "what even is it?" the first time I pulled up in it.
It's gone now and I've bought a more modern looking daily, it seems to be modern classics which suffer the worst. I don't get any stick when I drive my mini and that is the same age as the metro!

Might need to wait 20 years before the 2000s styling becomes retro I'm dreading it... lol

If they can't steal them, they'll strip them on the side of the road. Heard of it a few times.

Cards on the table, ladies and gents. I need this gone pretty sharpish. Not had a single sniff yet, not a phone call, not an email, despite the car being advertised here, Facebook (in two specialist groups) and four other websites. I could go to eBay of course, but having never sold on there before and having heard a lot of stories about issues sellers have had, I'm a little reticent. Is it overpriced? I thought a grand for a car with full MoT was pretty reasonable? And I know it's the less desirable version, but with less than twenty on the road, I'd have thought *someone* would want it. Your thoughts would be welcomed. I had exactly the same thing with a car recently. Not a bit of interest online, listed it in 2 eBay auctions where the buyers never showed up. In the end I listed it as a classified ad for a couple of hundred quid more than I wanted and it sold the next day!

Could be an issue with the temperature sender or the wiring from it to the ecu.
My bothers polo used to do exactly the same thing, never cured it and the only error light it ever showed was for the cat.

I bought this for my Metro under the impression it was an SPi one, but it isn't. I think it will fit all MPi K-Series engines, basically any where the air filter doesn't sit on top of the cam cover! £5 collected, £8 posted, that's what I cost me. Thanks!

A decent clutch should bed in straight away. when you say you were holding it a hill do you mean holding it on the cutch and did the smoke smell similar to hot brakes, if so that's the clutch slipping. Yeah I was holding it on the clutch, something I've done many times there in many different cars without issue! I'm sure the smoke was the clutch slipping and then the car stalled. To other leaks or issues either!

Google is just full of contradictions so I thought I'd ask the experts!
My MR2 had a new clutch before I bought it. The dealer said he'd bought it from auction and when he collected it, the clutch was none existent. I have no reason to doubt him as he was a trader, not a mechanic lol.
Anyway, I've done about 60 miles since I got the car and I'm just wondering if there's a bedding in period for the clutch? I drive mostly early mornings so the car doesn't ever really sit in traffic. It died when I was holding it on a hill today. Loads of whiteish smoke coming from the engine bay and then it stalled. Started straight up and carried on up the hill and it's a hill I've crawled up hundreds of times.
So that's it, do I have to bed the clutch in for a while? Or should I be worried? Cheers

One of the earlier points summarised it really well for me.
Let's say I spend £199 a year on stamps, and then a further £40 changing the bits they don't do.
After 2 years (the longest I've kept a car) I will have spent £500. Is it going to be worth £500 more? Probably not as I only paid £1200 in the first place! :/

What Toyota is it? If it's a sporty model that an enthusiast may buy later, I would keep going with the FSH. It's an MR2. For the price I bought it, none of the others were listed with FSH, just part, so it doesn't seem like it added that much value lol

When I've looked online, to get it serviced at my local Toyota dealer is a minimum £199 and for that, they'll change the oil, thats it. Yeah they'll inspect most other bits bit they don't touch the brakes, they don't touch the air filter, fuel filter, alternator belt or spark plugs, so I'd still have to do all that myself, or pay an extra £100 for the "Premium Service". If Toyota service is the same in the UK as it is here, then I'd run a mile from anything with a dealer service history! Too late, it's on my drive! Lol

They're just not worth having! Especially if they're now taking customer cars from garages aswell!

I had a MK3 golf a few years ago, it was perfect and I loved it. I only sold it because it cost me too much to commute in.
I think you'll end up with a 206cc, they seem very popular with non-car people who want a cabrio!

Just because you can doesn't mean you should, or am I just getting too old! Also spotted with a pisstaking KA today...

Strangely, insurance on there is pretty crazy! 5yrs NCB as well, may have to give my insurer a call and see if they can sort something out for us. Is the 143bhp 1.8 much fun? I've just transferred my insurance from my metro to an MR2 and it only cost me £9... Including a £15 admin fee... makes me think I was being ripped off on the metro! They get nicked and crashed a lot, there's just as many CAT ones for sale as good ones.
