Do all your events at Bont Dolebolion require vehicles to conform to the regs outlined for Touge in the Valleys? ie. if I don't half a cage/half cage is it still possible in some capacity?
In short yea. The safety requirement were drawn up specifically for this venue by us and our governing body to ensure the safety of everyone taking part. after many years in motorsport the strongest advice i can gove is if you are pushing your car hard its always worth investing in a decent cage.

awesome looking venue. I've recently decided that I might start kitting out my Celica GT4 with a few bits that would satisfy the regs for your events. Do you welcome amateurs off the street? (providing they hold the necessary licence of course) Would be great to have you. You can get a day licence off us through IOPD on the event. You just need to include in the license form any previous experience you have on track days etc.

shame its not legible for much in the way of competing, most stuff doesnt allow bike engines and the rear engine thing would put you in the class with the single seaters. this, is a quick Cornish 205, under 650 kg, knocking on 300 bhp 2.0 na. I think thats the Satchell car isnt it? they sponsore some of our events at the stage. It was built for the old Super modified rally class back in the day. Its now been recommissioned to run in historic rallies, shows and its legal for our timed weekend events at the stage as well.

Some of the 4x4’s out here in Australia are amazing but then again some of the terrain is. I like watching these blokes on the telly. youtube.com/c/All4AdventureTVYea it is a stunning place with plenty more space than we have. Sort of why i chose an LC as all the outback boys use themm as well as UN and terrorists so must be pretty good right?

You mention that there was a small hole in the back axle, caused by rust, which let water in; is there a breather also on the axle, in which case with a warm axle being immersed in cold water when off-roading, this would draw said water into the axle when immersed, etc...? Wading kit would include venting front & rear axles; gearbox & transfer box; possibly timing cover if similar to a Defender. With outlets of the various pipes terminating well above the potential level of any water you are likely to encounter, would alleviate these issues. Just a thought. Furthermore have you told your insurance company of the various modifications that you have already carried out? Failing to do so could negate your present cover. Keep safe and continue to enjoy your vehicle.
I have fitted axle, box breathers on offroaders before but I'm told these have one way valves so shouldnt need them. I'm about to change the oil again on the diffs so i will find out. But it will be a mod i do straight away if i find anymore water in them.
As Astranaut suggests i run motorsport events for a living so hold a trade policy. My trade poolicy does not require me to list mods for each vehicle the business or I own due to the nature of what i do. they essentially assume that every vehicle i own is modified in some way and i pay accordingly for it. Prior to having a trade policy it was frustrating as not only do i mostly own modified stuff but i used to go through around 8 -10 cars a year. Owning an automotive business has its perks when you are a petrolhead

Yea ive not had to use my rear locker yet only mycentre one and ive been through some tough stuff already. Id personally look for the older 3.0D like this there are a few problems with the D4D. No Toyota tax to be seen on the 90 series they are around £2000-£3000 with reasonable mileage. Just watch out for the rust

After tyre fitting of course they had to be tested so off up a few local lanes to check they don't catch on anything. It was super hot out and about in summer and the Air con had run out.I dropped into my mates at Harveys Autotech in Westbury and they stuck new gas in, shes been ice cold ever since so no leaks in the system which is a great result.

Ive ummmed and arrred about doing a build thread for my LC as its only just retro. But ive done a bit already and its a good truck so figured id share info just incase anyone is interested.
I have a tradition of buying something every winter for bad weather and offroad use. I live in wiltshire which is littered with by-ways and 20mins from Salisbury plains training area. Ive had all sorts fro SJ's, Cherokee', Land Rovers, Surfs etc etc. This year i decided to buy early mid season as prices are lower and i found this LC on ebay auction local to me. It had been on the same estate for over 20 years with good history and just 167,000 on the clock which is just run in for these things.
This time i wanted to venture further around the UK on green lanes so i needed something comfy, reliable and good on the road even with some mudding mods. its great to drive on and offroad with electric everything. I also run a few events on a rally stage in Wales so it will also make a handy recovery vehicle.

Any engine pics. I used to do tooth belt water pump drives for Team Hartwell and it would be interesting to see if they are still in use. I don't have any engine bay pics sorry but hoping he will return next season to one of our retro trackdays
