Does anybody else wonder if the majority of these thefts are the work of one gang and these vehicles are going straight out of the country? Surely those Ford pickups would have been spotted and the classic scene for those is small enough alarm bells would have sounded had a new one suddenly appeared (with or without an ebay ringing kit), weren't the cortinas spotted heading in Tilbury direction? Well, how difficult would it be to put a couple into a container, ship it out to Malta, get hooky paperwork for them out there, perhaps a basic repaint etc etc then ship them back to the UK to be sold to people with way more money than common sense. It would probably cost in. The Anglia and Thames is a possible, we all know where the Cortinas have really gone though. There are rumours flying about & speculation that classics maybe heading out to Africa as they love easy to work on cars out there & classics make the ideal vehicle for their needs. Been speculated to me from 3 different sources that this might be the case. There is a consignment of Land Rovers apparently heading back to the UK that were discovered in Africa having been stolen in Leicestershire a few years ago.

I've just got this to be run in the Canterbury Times too. If anyone has contact details for the owner, I'd love to get in touch with him too. I've sent it to Kent Messenger & Kent News too

The car was stolen at some point between the 13th & the 23rd January & there was a possible sighting on the B4529 in the Leominster area of the Cortina being towed on a trailer by a dark colour Navara/L200 style truck on Thursday night (21st January 2016) at around 8:30-9pm. Was anyone in the area that can recall seeing this? I used to live in Leominstaer - IIRC the B4529 is near the car auctions, which are on a Thursday night? That's the one, the person who saw it when he was returning from the auction.

This is such an issue now I cannot see why all the classic publications cannot get together to have a weekly/monthly roll call page highlighting whats gone missing and to advise 'if you see any suspicious ads for parts etc....' Classic Car Buyer do run such a feature, would be good if other publications did similar though

6 Cortina's in 7 weeks now!
This one is fitted with minilite replica wheels with new debica tyres. Paint wise the car isn’t great with some blistering under the paint & has red paint marks on the passenger door. The bumpers & grille are scruffy. It has a 1600e seats fitted which are very different to the lotus seats. It's got a homemade plate on the carbs to hold the throttle cable. The car doesn’t have an original air box fitted. The owner’s had the car for twenty seven years so holds great sentimental value.
The owner’s son thinks the lock up was checked out a few months back as it looked like someone had tried to have a look inside.

Give it a rest with the whole banger drivers nicked it argument. I've already had one thread on here locked because of that! Don't do it on this one too!
In all walks of life there are dodgy bastards, there are a MINORITY of racers & no doubt rally drivers that are thieving little scooters but without proof it's just speculation.

Just an idea but I think if a certain make/model race meeting is on the horizon a 'honey trap' should be set up whereby a specific car is left somewhere in order to be stolen and then the thieves can be tracked as soon as the car moves... I am sure that that will never happen but it's just a thought! Again, I hope this car gets found as this is just becoming more than stupid now. That's entrapment & not sure if it's permitted in the UK mores the pity

Local newspapers should be running a story on this one, they've run stories on the first two stolen from Chatham, the Dodge that went missing & the Thames 400E.
Sent the story of the South African Sport stolen in Wellingborough to newspapers in Northants to run the story in the papers there too.

Possible sighting in Duncan Road, Gillingham, Kent heading towards Gillingham High Street at 11:30am on Sunday morning (10th January 2016).
Was anyone in the area on Sunday morning? Trying to confirm whether it was the Cortina or something else. Sighting was by a friend of the owners.

White Mk2 Escort Sport OKH341V, Wellingborough 08/01/16 White South African import Mk2 Escort registered in the UK with the plate OKH341V was stolen from a secure lock up garage opposite the owners house in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire on Friday 8th January 2016. The car is white with black stripes and has a picture of a piranha on the bonnet. The car has over riders on the front quarter bumpers, aftermarket door mirrors & a black stripe where the spoiler should be. The car has black alloys of unknown origin. The engine is a crossflow, the block has been painted red, is fitted with a chrome rocker cover & a chrome air filter. The tops of the front struts have been painted red. Inside the car is a blue roll cage & blue TRS bucket seats with a grey X on the headrest. The car is an ongoing project for the owner so the car has no MOT & is currently on SORN.

I'm assured there should be a story running in a well known Classic publication in the next week or two with comments from both sides of the coin. We can all assume where these cars are going and it is a strong coincidence. I think the No 'original' VIN No race rule is well overdue. A record needs to be kept of used VINs as well so it's not just a case of VIN plate swapping! Which publication? I suggested a similar idea on here a few years ago & was shot down in flames by racers.
