I have spoken to a friend who's in the know, and he's stumped, so he's asking his motorsport pals if they know.
I found some more info out about the car - it was purchased in April 2023, registered in Prague, but is kept in Provence. I am guessing that the owner lives in Monaco, presumably due to some sort of tax "arrangement". And the colour is Rosso Ferrari F1-75 apparently! But I still don't know who's driving it...

Most of these are retro but there are a couple of newer ones because they're nice. Monaco is a strange place. It seems that a lot of the people there are living in a rather expensive bubble and don't really know what reality is like. Don't get me wrong - it's a fabulous place, but it seems very detached. Not sure I would go back, but if you fancy a visit and you're in the South of France, it's only a few Euros on the train. In addition to the glamorous motors in Casino Square and dotted around the circuit area, there are also a number of smaller, more city-type cars, which makes a refreshing change. I did actually see Charles Leclerc driving around in his white Ferrari 812 (with 16 on the side) but I was not quick enough to catch him with the camera. Then he did it again a bit later. I'll get him one day... Amazing resto-mod Renault Dauphine in Beaulieu-Sur-Mer. This sounded rorty as hell, and had beautifully banded wheels (pinstriped!) which looked like they came from a 70s Renault 5. The quite frankly ridiculously expensive ($2.3 million) Ferrari SP3. This gets a pass here. It sounded fabulous. Fiat Topolino at the Lowes Hairpin (looked like they were giving it a bit of welly too!) Mini in Monaco! Great clubby estate in Snapdragon yellow by the looks of it. Intergrowler - does this pass for a "City Car"? Fiat Panda! Excellent - you can't get more back to basics than this! Another Mini! This time a 90s Mayfair by the looks of things This Ferrari 308 GTS back in Beaulieu-Sur- Mer. The old boy driving it really struggled - he couldn't manoeuvre it well at all, nearly hitting 2 cars and a pedestrian. Tom Selleck he was not... The car sounded and looked amazing though. A couple of pics from the Casino Square area (sorry, modern content - apologies!) I think the valets here have a fantastic job. Go on then, here's the harbour... ... the Swimming Pool... Sainte-Devote And finally, some idiot at Lowes Hairpin. An enjoyable way to spend the weekend!

Google Lens suggests it's Mario Andretti, which might be true Mario's 83. I know he looks good for his age, but I'd say this chap is mid to late 60s. He seemed pretty well-known though. I'm not convinced!

My first thought was Derick Warwick, but I'm not sure, so I'll stick with it anyway. Have a free retro car incase I'm wrong. Don't think it is either. The nose profile is wrong, but it was one of my first thoughts!

Not exactly a Retro Car, ut instead a Retro driver instead. I was lucky enough to be in Monaco at the weekend, and was distracted by the delight of a Ferrari Daytona SP3 (a mere snip at $2.3 million each). This eye-wateringly expensive car (with Swiss Plates) was driven into the Casino area and several members of the public has selfies with the driver. I recognise him, and believe he's a former F1 driver, but because he's a lot older now, I can't place him. Can anyone identify him? It's been bugging me since I saw him... He's the older guy in the middle! Thanks in advance PS I will upload some pics from the trip in due course.

I am getting geared up to go to Monaco in 11 days' time for a weekend, and am hoping to see a few nice motors.
Hope also to get some pics from around the harbour plus the usual bits of the GP circuit as well as any tasty retro motors around.
Excited!

Heating it up with a hot air gun worth a try ? Bit of a pain that. James Unfortunately tried that already. Didn't really work. Think the glue has gone off.

Could you rescue the duff stuff with double sided tape ? Some of the re-inforced stuff (like carpet tape) is extremely sticky. It's got to be worth a try. I've still ordered more because it's needed

So I figured that I would start today (once the garage had been warmed up courtesy of the Jet Engine/Propane Space Heater) by giving the wheel centres a further coat of gloss black. They'd already been primed, so on went a couple of coats of Halfords Finest. No photo of this, because you've kind of seen this before... I wanted to start sorting out the sound deadening in the interior, so I reached for my pile of Silent Coat that I'd bought a while back. I grabbed a roller, some scissors and a razor blade, and took a look at the interior. I figured that I may as well start with the driver's footwell, so I spent a while cutting bits to size, eternally grateful that my knees were kneeling on rubber mats rather than ridged concrete. I managed to get most of the driver's footwell sorted, but then discovered a big problem. I'd bought the soundproofing quite a long time ago, and it had been sat in 2 different garages during this time. Some of it (what was already in the footwell, had lasted well. The rest of it? Less so. The sticky back was no longer sticky. Rather than staying in place like it should, it simply peeled off and didn't work. So I have stopped this job for now and have ordered some new stuff, which will hopefully work properly. More soon, when it arrives. I will also take the seats out so I can a) do the rear compartment more easily but also b) do under the seats properly. Space where new soundproofing was going. Darker patch was an accidental spillage of resin a while back. Nobody know it's there. Oh... Silent Coat soundproofing: some of it apparently is a bit past its best (my fault entirely!) And finished product (well, as much as I could do, anyway).

Went back with the full intention of starting afresh with a bigger bottle. Spoke to a different member of staff and she said they'd be happy to take back the small bottle and give me the 6kg one in exchange. So I did that, and only paid £28 instead of over £70, which is much more palatable! I had wondered that it might not fit on my shelf, but it does, with about 1/4" to spare. Today has been a good day! Thank you everyone for all your suggestions and assistance

I always thought the Rapier would go well with a V6 or V8 if they'd fit. Don't think I ever saw one in Custom Car or Street Machine that did though. A good looking car that really should have had a bit more grunt. The 1725 was good for the late 60s but there ain't no substitute for cubes!
Does anyone know of a V8 Rapier?

^^^ Will Holman from Practical Performance Car had a grey one for a while. Wonder if that's still around. Definitely a rare beast. I haven't seen one for years!

I don't think many folks will fill other bottles for you. The fact that they won't take the old bottles back however, is surprising. I used to work for Calor, so I can ask if this is the case, and maybe even a reason why. I have a suspicion as to why it is. FloGas may do something similar, but they may have decided against it as well. I do have a spare Calor Gas bottle, which I may be willing to do a deal on. However, it's rather large! Thanks ChasR - I expect that it's all down to costs. I think the easiest thing for me to do is just start up a new contract. By the time I have tried to sort a replacement bottle, it will probably have cost me as much or more to get a new one anyway. C'est la vie I guess... I can only fit a small one in my garage anyway - a 6 kg item is as big as I need - it took 4 years for me to use up 3.9 kg!

I have a gas-fired space heater in the garage (just a small Clarke Machine Mart one), and my Calor Gas Propane cylinder has just run out. It was the smallest version which is 3.9Kg (see below). So off I trot to my local gas supplier to replace it. It turns out that Calor discontinued their smallest cylinders back in early 2023 - which shows how little gas I use each year. Normally I would just chop the small one in for a bigger one, but I was also advised that Calor are no longer accepting the little ones back, so I would have to start a whole new contract with them. This of course means a pretty hefty deposit compared to the price of just the new cylinder, which I am not particularly happy about. Are there any alternatives out there?
