Managed to find the missing decal from the boot. It claims to be an original item, although doesn't look like an exact match to me. Not sure I'm that bothered, at least I have managed to reinstate its 'Bonus' status. On that note, I've been trying to find more info on the different specs of fiestas at this time, but can't really find much. Just wondered what 'Bonus' means, and how this might be different from a 'Popular' or even 'Popular Plus'.

XR2 pepperpots are great but quite an obvious choice (had them on my mk1 years ago)

Thanks mercdan68, Not sure I want to go any bigger really. Would certainly consider something like the first ones you posted with a retro feel. Would consider wider 13 inch wheels. I do like the ones I have, but have always been keen on the idea of Ford 4 spokes, but was lead to believe the offset would be completely wrong. Maybe mini lite style, but again not sure they come in an appropriate offset I have toyed with the idea of RST 3 spokes, but they are pretty expensive. An unusual choice would be XR3 clover leaf wheels.

Nothing major to report on this little car. Took the arch liners off at the front. Nothing really going on behind there. Needed a quick dab of hydrate 80 and a nice liberal coat of waxoyl. Added some 5mm spacers so that the tyres don't rub the inner arch in full lock. Seems to be fine now. Also gave the wheels a bit of TLC too. Would like to change them for something else in the future when money and lockdown allow. Anyone got any suggestions?

Give it some time to settle My lads red one settled nicely after a few weeks use It did sit higher at the back but after use it’s now level Cheers, that's exactly what I was thinking. Not unhappy with it as it is, but hopefully will settle a bit.

Well, with time on my hands, thought I may as well crack on with a few bits on the fiesta. Ordered some lowering springs and got them fitted yesterday. It's a 'pro-sport' 40mm kit. At this point, I'd add that working on the fiesta was a complete joy. Everything is completely simple and logical, came apart easily and there were no dramas at all. These really are a great car for someone learning some basic mechanics. Anyway, the results are pretty good. The ride is slightly firmer but quite impressed that it is still really comfortable. The front has lowered about 40mm, the back has only come down about 30mm (not entirely sure why it's not more). Happy that it's fairly subtle. Slight rubbing on the inner arch plastic on the front on full lock. Might try some small spacers in the future.

Had many of these over the years. Chester Ford dealer indeed had a sales floor at ground level then a workshop above using a ramp to get down, the building is on lower bridge street. Be aware that some front suspension components are unique to the 1.0 model in comparison with 1.1 and 1.3 versions. Being a carb vehicle means future engine swaps can be easier. 1.6 cvh from a mk2 xr2 will be ideal as its a carb and you can keep your gearbox, use a mk3 xr2i cvh engine mount and exhaust system. Xr2i brakes are also a straight fit. Thanks xrmike, I have seen the photos of the dealer in Chester, think the building is either going to be flats or has been converted already. Thanks for the info about the suspension. I have just order some lowering springs as the seller confirmed they should fit a 1.0 and 1.1. I'm now starting to doubt if this is true. Do you know if the springs are the same?

If I had the space I'd be all over this. Got a 1.4 205 XS engine in the shed that would be suitable too. Hopefully when everything settles down you will sell it no problems.

I had a new 1.1 Popular Plus when they were launched in April 1989... because I knew the salesman in the supplying dealer very well, I actually took delivery the day before the official launch date. Felt like the dogs b****x driving around in it that night! That's amazing...I can just imagine people being excited to see the new fiesta! My mum had hers when it was 5 years old (mid 9os) and still fondly remembers it as the first modern car she owned!

Had a good day working on this today, in between working from home and educating the kids. Managed to fix three small problems successfully and at minimal cost: 1. Temperature gauge working correctly, it always read very low. Replaced the sender with a Lucas one for £8...now sits bang in the middle of 'norm'. 2. Got the rear wiper working. Stripped and cleaned lots of bits, but still no luck. Then found a video on you tube that tells you what to do. Basically, it is earthed through the boot hinges. You need to strip them apart and clean them up - hey presto! They rear wiper slowly came back to life. Cost: nothing. 3. Driver's door card - loose at the top, which is very common I believe as the board breaks where it should clip onto the door. Not much I can do other than source new door cards, so decided to glue it (which seems to be holding). All in all, a productive day. It's amazing what you can achieve if you don't have to go to work and you are not allowed to leave the house.

Sounds like you have posh one compared to mine! It has a 5 speed gearbox if that's posh. It has a glass sunroof like yours, original ford cassette radio, airbag, and err ..... nothing else just basic poverty spec on steels with trims. My Vitara 1.4S has all the gadgets and driver aids you get on new cars and the Fiesta has none of them but is fun to drive. It's basic but I have been a passenger in it or driven it since my dad bought it 24 years a go so it has sentimental value, which is one thing the Vitara does not have. PAS would be nice and I do have a bad habit when selecting reverse of automatically looking at the dash for the reverse camera as I do in the Vitara. But I can live with that as it's strangely satisfying driving a poverty spec car. Much more spec than this one is; still trying to work out what the 'bonus' is. You have the extra gear and an airbag. I do love poverty spec cars...my 205 is also as basic as they come.

OEM+ is a great way to go with this 👍 amazing that it still had its wheel trims - they normally had 3 as standard! Yep still got all 4 - in good condition too and the strange off-white colour ford chose around this time!

Puma 1.7 ....my lad is toying with that idea They are 130bhp aren't they? That would be plenty in a car that's less than 800kg!

All plenty of food for thought...it takes me loads of time to formulate plans. I'd be glad to just drive it. Been looking at lowering springs. Saw some 35mm ones which sounded like an appropriate drop. They look great with 60mm by I plan to drive it quite a bit and my back won't take it!
