I've got a nice ish mk3 lwb chassis cab that I'm restoring at a snail's pace. Hoping it will be worth something when it's done as they arnt really worth a whole lot now. Once the get tax exemption and all that it will help I think.
At the moment they arnt a cheap thing to own as you struggle to get decent insurance and tax is high too.

You can get it all yes but you will find the dcoe/idf parts (emulsion tubes etc) are much more common and rolling roads etc will have more available to swap. The last thing you want is to have to shell out 100s on various parts to set them up perfectly. Also SUs are good as you can 'make your own' needles rather than needing to have 100s of types to hand to swap.

You will find it's a bit easier to get the bits to tune the IDFs than the other Weber's. That said the SU is a better option for road use than most people may think so don't write those off

I think they will let you in. You may just have to leave cars by the entrance.

Do you not think they'd crack if/when you drop a crowbar or hammer on them? They might do but the way is see it is its a lot easier job to occasionally replace a damaged tile than the reasonably impossoble job of repainting a floor in a active workshop. The tiles are certainly alot tougher an more hadwearing. Paint will chip a hell of alot easier.

Tile it! I've tried all sorts of paint and theres no difference. Cheap stuff gets scraped and comes off. Expensive stuff gets scraped and comes off. I certainly wouldnt bother with epoxy or primer or any of that lark again it would be cheap paint or if I could afford it a tiled floor..

One thing you should mention (may be a bit late now the packs have gone out), I believe goodwood insist on arms and legs covered? I know last year some guys were hunting for trousers at short notice after they turned up in shorts!

Meh living in Birmingham I find it kind of fun. The rules of the road go totally out of the window. Half the asians driving around got thier licence off a lamp post and the other half think they the biz doing 60 in a 20 in thier dads Audi A3. It becomes more about avoiding the dodderers and forcing the wannabe be racers into a situation they cant get themselves out of than a drive home. Kind of entertaining!

Is it HF start? That's the only thing I can think of that could be wrong with a machine like that.

In terms of fitting in the arches? It should be simple enough to measure with a tape and a straight edge to see if they are within the original arch.. What other problems are you worried about?

Looks like i made the cut again Could i ask, as my car is trailered will i be able to access the paddock (with paddock pass) to drop it off on Friday afternoon/evening? Last year there seemed to be some confusion about this with different people directing me to different places but it was clearly possible to do it as other people had (including all the 'show cars' on stands in the paddock). In the end i had to unload in the morning which just made things harder and more frantic for everyone tbh! Would be good to be able to drop it off in the paddock on the Friday and hide the trailer up in the trailer hide (assume its the same as last year) then in the morning its an easy start! Would be good to know a time scale on it too to know when i would need to be there by. (I presume the gates are closed at night?)

Re the ball joint taper. It might just about be possible (anything's possible but I'm talking affordable possible) to hold that in a 4 jaw chuck and tickle it out a bit larger on a lathe. Otherwise you probably need a taper reamer which may have to be custom made.
I think the drag link will be ok if fabricated well.
