The big factor with all these chassis changes are that they are done prior to the registration process, most of the UK body and coach builders use series type approvals , and those modifications will be approved in documentation from the OEM such as Bodybuilder Guidelines, they cover everything from electrical loading , fitting ac and aux heaters to chopping off screen pillars from front cowls. The OP is trying to mod an existing vehicle as Kapri has indicated, that's a very very different situation.

simple way is vacuum test , the better way is to use oxygen free nitrogen , as it not only helps find any leaks but also helps dry out the system as it attracts moisture, neither though really is a home job

Like others on here, Dad used to do his own repairs, but don't remember being that interested, did have a big collection of matchbox, corgi and dinky toys , then matchbox race track (wanted scaletrix but never got one) I do remember when my brother was born mum and dad bought me a corgi ford mustang (silver and still got it !)Even remember writing down number plates from cars just to look up where they came from
mopeds and motorbikes , well that came from the group of lads at school and being one of the older one in the year group had to get a moped, then served an engineering apprenticeship where it seemed everyone had either a car or bike, although some of the lads parents didn't allow them to have bike ,
both cars and bike choice been pretty eclectic, MZ, BSA, Honda Yamaha and Suzuki, then cars Hillman Imps, MG, Lotus, Ford RS2000 and Mexico's, Avenger Tiger, Clan, Land Rovers, Audi,VW,BMW
But I can't pin point any individual or any life defining point that was the start of this expensive obsession with cars and bikes that see's me with enough projects to see me to retirement

Do you etch prime and weld thru prime using aerosols or can you buy etch in larger quantities to use in a gun?

Used to love the Hot rods, local garage owner raced in them Steve Crew, lucky to go with them Aldershot and Wimbledon. Always loved the look of the Escorts and Anglias then the Starlets.
Later we had Wessex Racing building engines for Hot rods based in Ferndown, Tony Scott if memory serves me right he later went to work at Autocross, pintos were the engine of choice by then.My mate had a pinto built by him , dry sump etc for a Mk3 rwd escort for tarmac rallying awesome engine builder.
As for Nascar. last year when I visited my son and family in Michigan , had to go and watch the Nascar, wow the noise, had seats on the start line straight , and the air was full of rubber, we were black with race rubber after the rolling start, and Nascar was the closest i've got to the old Hot rods.

The problems with using the newer refrigerants is that no connections can be in the cabin area, quite often the expansion valve is in the cabin,
MB does now use R1234YF in all but I believe S and E class.
Remember the seals on any system designed for R12 and were not always compatible with R134a.
First task, get someone to pressure test system with OFN, not a vacuum test which is what the likes of Hal----s and Kwi---T will do

thanks all , I'll go get some gloss rollers , and get the heat on early in the garage and get a surface temp reader, the time to cure isn't so much of an issue as I have plenty of other things to do , its making sure it does cure and then stays on as don't intend seeing the underside of this Imp again, for car that's 50 this year there's only the odd patch where the original underseal had failed.

Epoxy paints, my garage is fairly cold, its detached and uninsulated and normally I only do any painting after Easter when the weather is warmer , but current project has progressed quicker.Although I do have some heating in there, I need to crack on with the underside of the current project. Now I've been reading and seeing dewpoint mentioned affecting the adhesion of paint and epoxy coatings
So my question is, if my garage is say ambient air 10c does this mean I need to get the panels upto to 15c? or do I just need the garage 5c warmer than outside?

well you could keep the standard tank with just a small amount or RED diesel in, then have a second tank on the vehicle for you use then if they do take it they run risk of getting done for tax evasion !!!

similar issues with Clan Crusader door beams!!!!
what little metal there is on fibreglass cars does seem to want to destroy itself far quicker than on a whole metal car

ptfe tape on screw threads also works, especially good on screws made of cheese where the heads may fall apart when you try to dislodge a loctite type threadlock lock

But its also the manufacturing process, to make a sealed unit that can be glued together on a machine is far easier than having extra fixings to be able to split assemblies.
So how are they going to control the far east imports ? plenty of stuff marketed here with even CE marking or testing , the world has moved on with its manufacturing powerhouses

I’ve been tempted with one of those. My only concern would be routing the exhaust properly. I’ve used them a lot on lorries and coaches, and they work well, but they don’t like long exhaust runs. chinese have copied the design of Diesel heaters this should apply , it does for Eberspacher's anyway as they have this in the instructions, Purpose of the heater • Pre-heating, de-misting windows • Heating and keeping the following warm: – Driver and working cabs, Ship’s cabins – Freight compartments – Passenger and crew compartments – Camper vans On account of its functional purpose, the heater is not permitted for the following applications: • Long-term continuous operation, e.g. for preheating and heating of: – Residential rooms – Garages

Well the compressor bracket is it cast or a welded assembly ? and whose compressor is it? re the gas the expansion valve on the end of the evap should have the refrigerant type marked on it , but if it was fitted new at that age I'd say its R12, what type of charge ports does it have ? If there's any gas in it stick set of gauges on and standing pressure will give you a pretty good idea although both r134a and r12 are pretty similar.

Reckon that the only way you get back to full points is IVA, once your down to 8 points on your original registration 1 more mod tips you into IVA
Think of it this way,if you could do it that way then everyone would simply declare one mod at a time and unless you modified the chassis or bodyshell you would always retain your original registration.
