Great to see progress on this again, love a track car build and this is just that bit sweeter with it being an E28! Do you mind me asking what you are using for stoneguard? I'm guessing you've thrown a bit of the base in with it there Thanks. It’s U-pol tintable Raptor truck bed liner. It’s great stuff and incredibly hard wearing.

Interesting project, I’m in. Not sure if you knew but your rear hubs are early short wheel base 911 items.

Hope you're keeping well mate! How's things been on the E28? Sorry for the lack of updates chaps, life has been very busy recently and I’ve struggled to find the time to do anything to the 28, but rest assured there will do an update soon, even though the project has taken a couple of steps backwards it’s all for the greater good.

Great work on the e28.
Having cought up on the rebuild so far one thing I have noticed is will you be able to set any camber on the top strut mounts with the pressings of the inner wings as it does not look as if you will beable to without using some performance shims (spacers) for the allen bolts to clear the pressing?
I know you probably don't need more than 3 degrees each side which is a little at the hub but that can be a lot at the top of a strut.
Thanks, I did noticed it when I installed them, however I probably won’t need all of that adjustment but if I do I’ll alter it accordingly.

This is so good. really like the quality of the work. i need to go and re do all my brake lines. Could you help me out and let me know where you got the copper line from and all the fittings and fixing also tools that you have used? Thanks. Any motor factors will have what you need to redo your brake lines, including tooling.

As mentioned yesterday I’ve had the doors and boot lid painted. I personally didn’t paint the panels this time, a good friend who goes back to our apprenticeship days painted them as part of a trade off deal. I did some welding to his e36 and in return he painted my panels, good result all round. Today I had the fiddly task of hanging the doors and aligning them up, even for a panel beater of 24 years these doors are pain in the . Perseverance and patience is key to success with them. Tomorrow night I’ll flat the newly painted panels down with 1500-2000 wet or dry and get them ready for machine polishing before the paint goes too hard.

What a fantastic project. Forgive me if it was spelled out earlier, but what kind of paint is that … single stage or base/clear? Looks great! John Thank you. The paint is Ford race red in Octoral 2k direct gloss (single stage)

I can confirm a left hand drive centre bar will fit and work. Fitted one to mine with no problems. Good to hear the rear beam is all sorted. I’ll have a look in the loft for a glove box catch, I might one. Sammo, I had a look in the loft for a glove box handle, unfortunately the one I’ve got is no good.

Nice e28! As a fellow owner I can relate to the woeful performance. When my 520i auto was a complete car it was terrible at maintaining 70mph, I was always having to floor it to maintain speed, a manual conversion will help it out massively. But if you’re not doing loads of motorway miles they’re a nice urban/b road cruiser.
Good to hear yours is a clean solid example but when you get free couple of hours it’s worth checking the rear beam mount points. You’ll need to drop the rear beam to see that part of the body, they’re notorious for rot in this area so it’s definitely worth checking it out. Also it’s worth polybushing the rear beam, makes a big difference without effecting comfort.
As for the steering it’s worth changing everything up front, track rod ends, centre control linkage, idle bush, suspension arms, discs and pads. Make sure to clean the hub face before fitting the disc to minimise runout. You can also adjust the preload on the steering box. But once done the difference is night and day.
I’m halfway through my e28 project and know these like the back of my hand now. If you need any advise just shout and if you’re in need of any parts I might be able to help.
Happy motoring.

Great to see another post from yourself, cup of coffee and a nice read through on a cold rainy day Car is looking great and the standard of work is a real credit to you What's your thought's engine wise? Will you stick with the M20 Thanks. I’ll probably go down the route of boring and stroking the 2.0 to 2.8. It’s a straight forward job and good for around 190bhp.

Update time! Finally my new front suspension and steering linkages arrived plus a load of nuts and bolts came back from the platers. It was time to get stuck in and build up the front suspension. Copper greased the coilover threads for preventative measures. At this point I had to centralise the steering column and box, making sure I had the correct amount of steering turns side to side I measured the ends of the centre control arm to the chassis legs making sure they’re identical before fitting the track control arms. With the steering wheel straight and the centre control arm measurements identical I simply eyed up the position of the front hubs for my toe. Both track control arms are now the same length with both front hubs pointing forward and with the centre control arm central this gives me a good base to work with when I come to do the final geometry. Also set an equal height both sides, got no idea how it’ll sit yet but at least they’ll be equal and can be easily dialled in when the time comes. Prior to parking the car up for its radical overhaul, the steering started to making an irritating knock which I could hear and feel at low speed turns. That’s why everything was replaced but to my annoyance that knock could still be felt! curse word, the steering box needs an overhaul was my first thought. I went on the hunt to make sure I haven’t forgotten something and checked the UJs then as I was about to remove the steering box and send it on it’s way I had the urge to check this nut on the steering column which had a good three turns it in and would you believe it it sorted the knock. I’m feeling very happy this evening! Gave the steering box a lick of satin black to freshen it up. Just got the anti roll bar to fit next. I may have a play around with it and try to make it adjustable.

Here’s a pic of what the filler necks look like on the boot lid.

It’s sad how a grown man can get excited over the simplest of things... With a bit of tweaking this is the filler neck that’ll sit on top of the fuel tank in the boot. The standard tank will be done away with and a custom tank will be fitted in the boot like its group A counterparts did back in the day, however the fuel filler necks used in racing are not road legal due to them being a simple push open valve for the fuel rig, hence why I went for this set up with a road legal locking filler cap. Two holes will be drilled in the boot lid to gain access to the filler necks for refuelling.
