This air-cooled 1927 Franklin One of these Edwardian era Vauxhall taxis. They don't seem that strange when you realise the horse-drawn cabs that were about at the same time had essentially the same arrangement. I don't believe any survive, I'm not sure many were actually built. Charbens did a diecast toy, which is how I learned about them originally. Any donk. One of these Velorex fabric bodied things.

You've all been waiting a while for this. Finally, a new Lanchester video to get your eyeballs on.
Inspecting the rear corner to see how bad that rust really is, and to see how much of a problem the ash frame is going to pose.

Don't be too sure on that, Peugeot 404s have a pretty good following and France is littered with old car parts. Somewhere like leboncoin might help you out, as might marque specific forums and social media groups.

glenanderson: not for me, it just messes up my depth perception and I can't always do it quickly enough anyway, often the bright lights are already in my face before I can react to them. westbay: I haven't. There's a lot of oldies up here and lots of stuff catering to that market so I'll see if I can find some to try, could be a cheap solution if it actually works. Today was a productive few hours welding up a white Rover for a friend. Another friend with a red Rover turned up to help out which is the only reason we got the job done since it was a lot of work just dismantling the donor panel and the rusty bits of the car. About six hours work I reckon. Was actually a pleasant day, glorious weather for it, and really nice to do car stuff with a car friend since for both of us a lot of the time it's a pretty solo affair. Shall have to get myself over to his place to help out on whatever jobs he needs to do when we've both got the time to do it.

That's very kind of you to say, Morris63A little headlight update, sans pictures because frankly it's too difficult to photograph because my phone camera compensates too well with the lighting. First thing happened this morning when doing a cupboard sort and I rediscovered some 'bright blue' headlights a neighbour gave me down south and I never got around to fitting. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I popped those in the car this morning in the dip/main lights (the main beam lights are still on the old halogens since I don't have replacements kicking about) and immediately discovered my first problem which was that the tangs on the old bulbs were really very rusty. What's odd is the sockets don't seem to be rusty or green at all, just the tangs on the bulbs. That's not something I've had happen before and will definitely have been providing rather more resistance than is ideal. New bulbs went in no bother and then I just had to wait until night time to try them out. On the driveway, initial impressions were that yes they are brighter, but not by enough that I would have been happy having spent my own money on them. The blue is just on the edge with them, the light output mainly is still a very yellowy halogen light as you'd expect from H4s. I'd finished work a little earlier tonight so I could get out while there was still some traffic, that was important because one of the issues I'd had was with oncoming headlights and I wanted to know if a brighter bulb might help. It does, and more than I'd expected, but not as much as I'd like. The new bulbs aren't really bright enough to give me the confidence I'd like and I'm still not enjoying night driving at all. While I can see better with these new bulbs, it's the middle distance that's still the problem. Road signs and markings in the distance show up fine, as do things very near the car, but the middle distance where you're looking and planning is where I'm having the problem. Part of this is just that the lights aren't bright enough, part of it could be my own night vision not being what it was, and part of it is definitely the terrible spacing of LED street lighting leading to that on-off effect that you didn't get with old sodium lights. The implementation of LED street lighting leaves a lot to be desired as a driver and as a pedestrian and I absolutely hate them. Very aggressively bright LED headlights from oncoming traffic are still a huge issue for me. In the Maestro I found my photochromatic specs would tint when I met them and then it was like driving with my headlights turned off. In the Princess I have the opposite problem of white-out and it takes a moment for my eyes to readjust after getting blasted, even when I use the old trick of looking to the curb when I see super-bright LED headlights coming. I sit further back from the windscreen in the Princess than I did in the Maestro, so I don't have the tinting issue with my specs and while they do have anti-glare coating that should help with blue light as you get from LEDs, it's clearly not enough to help. I don't really know what to do about that, I doubt brighter headlights or different specs are going to help when you've got the equivalent of main beam blasting at your face. Next thing I'll try is one of those relay wiring things to boost what I've got. I haven't the budget to be replacing the bulbs with LED ones, the relay wiring addition is more affordable and might give me enough of a boost to get by for now. The other thing I'm doing is avoiding night driving. I don't enjoy it and I don't feel particularly safe doing it because of superbright LED headlights in other cars. Until I can get myself to an optician (yay, more money) to find out if I've got an eyesight issue, I'm just going to have to drive around the problem for now. Although, having spoken to the optician I had down south about it they said they had a lot of similar complaints from people whose eyesight was fine so I do think it's less a me problem than it is a badly implemented tech problem. Oh, and people who have security lights on their house that shine directly at the road can get in the sea too.

A ridiculously exciting thing happened tonight. Totally randomly an Ambassador was leaving the supermarket as I was arriving in the Princess, and they turned around and came back to say hello! I've owned this car for 12 years and this is the first time I've ever encountered another wedge in the wild. Obviously I've littered everywhere I go with this news because I'm absolutely giddy about it.

Tonight something very special happened, something I've been waiting my entire twelve year ownership of the Princess to happen; a random encounter with another wedge. Not only that, it's an Ambassador! Shakey cam because I was so frigging excited. Best of all, the owner of the Ambassador decided to turn around and come back (he was leaving as I was arriving) just to say hello and I'm so glad he did. Absolutely made my year and knowing it's a local car and someone who is active in preservation and promotion of wedges means I've got a new contact to help with keeping mine happy. I cannot overstate my excitement over this, I am unreasonably giddy.

I'm not sure how I'm fixed for getting out to any events this month and next so I probably won't make the April meet. Cash is super tight at the minute and likely will be until May while I knuckle down and clear the moving debts. Above video explains the Lanchester situation.

The wheel choice and finish on them is excellent. Never would have thought those wheels on that shape Escort could have worked so well.

Weather permitting, the plan for this weekend is to little bit of rust repair on a friend of a friend's early Rover 200 (R8 shape). It's a mostly very tidy car except for a bit of rot on the panel that the tailgate latch goes on. Donor panel is provided, which is going to save a lot of fabrication hassle since it's off another 200 so should be factory fit. R8s do tend to be pretty good for panel consistency and even the aftermarket panels out there for them aren't too terrible a fit. Bit of fabrication needed for the panel behind it, but it doesn't look like anything complicated, just fiddly little squares. I'm also cautiously optimistic that what we can see is what there is because it's a white car and white cars generally make rust look worse than it really is.

I was just thinking about that style of auto art the other day and wondering if anyone still did them. Now I know!

I'm in sunny Scunny. I always forget on maps it's Kingston-upon-Hull, makes it sound dead posh. Anyway, only about half an hour's drive away so a RR meet would definitely be a possible once I'm clear of all these stupid post-house move demands on my time and money. Be good to put a face to a name too, I've been following your Triumph builds variously for what must be years now.

Today I finally gave the Princess a wash for the first time in weeks, possibly even months. Has a little bit of shine again. Have also been pleasantly surprised at the number of pink cars up here, so far I've encountered a Fiat 500, a New Beetle (with the plate H4 PNK), and a Nissan Micra. Looking forward to meeting more.
Of all the places I've lived, Lincolnshire also gets bonus points for having the most encounters with women, of all ages, keen to talk about the car and who are themselves knowledgeable and passionate about cars. Absolutely love to see it.

Excellent to see and hear it moving. Really highlights the goofiness of the chassis extension too, what a weird decision the previous owner made.

It'll have to wait at any rate, still skint from house move. Princess popped up on Facebook again, it's always a bit of a laugh seeing what people leave as comments, though this time around there's more positive ones so maybe the tide of public opinion is turning for the much maligned rusty wedge?

gtviva: It's not rusty if it's not there! People always reckon the Princess should have had a tailgate from the off but really it's capacious enough it isn't really necessary. Certainly didn't hamper the tip run requirements. I have now lost count of how many times I've parked up, got out of the car, and some random bloke has shouted from somewhere, "Is that a Princess?!". It's not every time, but it's not far off.

These ones? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166363767974The listings I'm finding (just pick ebay here for convenience) all seem to be in the £150ish for a pair range. I need two pairs. That's £300 for light bulbs. Seems a bit excessive.
