Hi all Made an early start today as I needed to re-route the wiring loom. It usually runs in a chunky conduit on the ledge at the passenger side at the roof side intersection but as this is were the bed will mount it was in the way. I removed the wiring loom and thinned it down by removing all the unused wiring for heated rear windows, rear wash and wipe and a few other bits and then re-wrapped the loom. Next job was to remove the trunking which is harder than it sounds as one fixing is behind the front cupboard/cab roof so all that has had to come out. I finished off by re-routing the loom at the rear corner and p clipping it back to the roof stiffeners. Next job is measure up for the bed panels and get them cut. These have to go in at quite an early stage as they cant be fitted one the roof is fully lined. Cheers - mike

Hi all finished the last ceiling panel and trial fitted it. Its now ready to fit once I get the lights sorted. Finished insulating the roof as well. Spent and hour hoovering her out as the sawdust from routing the hole for the vent went everywhere. Have also made up some light weight cores for the doors.Just one more to make now. Wont get much done tomorrow as the weather looks good so off for a posh lunch in Lincoln with my daughter. Cheers - mike

Hi all Had a steady morning making the last ceiling panel. I fitted it too the roof and then screwed it to the roof vent frame so I could then use my router to cut the hole for the vent. Its one of my least favourite jobs as I always get covered in saw dust. This afternoon I will finish insulating the roof and line the panel with carpet ready for final fitting which wont be until the end of the week. Cheers - mike

Hi all finished the middle ceiling panel, just needs some screws putting in but cant do that until the rear one is finished as it sits over both the front and rear panels. Also fitted its new wheel trims. The wheels will need painting black for them to look ok so thats a job for when its stopped raining. Going to tidy my workshop and make up the blanks for the cupboard doors later. The weathers looking good for tomorrow and weds so hopefully get the windows in the rear doors and some work on the units. Cheers - mike

Hi all just cut the middle roof panel. The rain is really starting to get on my nerves now!!!! It hasn't stopped since first thing this morning. My window supplier has just rung to say my windows have arrived for the rear doors. Apparently they have been in stock for over a week but nobody thought to let me know, 'cause after all i'm only the customer. Anyways, I should have this panel covered in carpet and ready for fitting shortly and as the weathers so bad I will have an early finish. Cheers - mike

Well my rock and roll bed arrived bang on time. It weighs and absolute tonne and took some lifting into the van. Its a more compact design than the beds I fitted previously, around 10 inches shorted in the seat position plus there's a seat at the rear as well which is handy for sitting with the rear doors open. I should have the roof light bonded in this afternoon and get measured up so I can design and make the side units. Cheers - mike

I hope to be away in Whitby on its trial next weekend. Hi all have been mostly snowed of this morning so caught up on my paperwork. I did manage to pre-wire and fit the mains inlet though. What I usually do to mount these is to stick the gasket onto the van and then spray a light coat of black trim paint to mark the hole. I then cut the straight sides with a grinder and the top curved bit with a jigsaw. To make sure the jigsaw doesn't mark the paint I cover the base with two layers of masking tape. I then clean of the trim paint with thinner and paint the cut edge with primer which is usually left over from fitting the windows. I then fit the inlet to the van, drill the holes and fit with stainless self-tapping screws. Hope to get the rear arches lined and the seat in position later. (its due at lunchtime) Cheers - mike

Hi all removed the roof rack this afternoon and cut the hole for the roof vent. I have modified the vent to allow it to sit on the curved roof. Tomorrow should see it bonded in plus the seat is being delivered so busy as ever. Cheers - mike

And the passenger side one is in. Getting quite good at this now, less than 90 mins per window and quite a chunk of that is waiting for the primer to go off. Got the roof rack to remove now so I can fit the roof vent. Cheers - mike

Hi all had a steady day today. I have finished installing the flooring. The frame for the roof light is made and bonded in and the bulk head for the top cupboard is made. Also did quite a few small jobs. Have started valeting the cab area, mr muscle and a tooth brush to get the plastics clean, fitted a new drivers seat belt as the old one was badly frayed and filthy, repaired the bulk head light and fitted led bulbs to all the roof lights. Have also cleaned the rear door trims and covered them in lining carpet. Tomorrow I should be fitting the side window and sliding door window and maybe the roof vent. The beds due Thursday so wanted all the major bits done. Cheers - mike

Hi all Still plodding away with the Trafic. Spent this morning removing lots of surplus wiring from the loom and also the tow bar wiring. I have also re-routed the loom inside the box section around the rear doors. It comes routed on the outside from the factory which is fine for a van but not so good for a camper. Most of the insulation is in plus the wiring for the ceiling lights. The new vinyl floor is all but down just one corner and around the sliding door to cut in. I should have the flooring finished for good and the frame for the roof light in tomorrow and maybe even the roof light itself. Cheers - mike

Hi all
got a few more hours on the traffic. The floor is back down and properly fixed now. I managed to re-use most of it in the end.I have also started the insulation and first fix electrics.
The plan for the coming week is as follow,
Monday - fit the flooring, make the frame for the skylight and bond it in plus other odds and ends to fill the day.
Tuesday - make and fit the front top bulkhead, fit the sky light.
Wednesday - fit the side windows, make and fit the main ceiling panel.
Thursday - fit the rock and roll bed and measure up for the units.
Friday - assess van for mot repairs and start making the units.
I need to move this one along quite quickly as I have lost quite a few days this year due to bad weather and am already a camper behind were I need to be.
Cheers - mike

Hi all
got a few bits done on the Trafic. The rear safety bar and tow bar are off. Laying under the van to undo the bolts was not fun. Have removed the rear door ladder and straightened and re-aligned the rear doors so they now fit and shut ok. Have pulled up most of the ply floor but not managed to save any of it so have started to fit a new floor. This should be done tomorrow and hopefully the heavy duty vinyl flooring should be down. Have ordered the rock and roll bed, from a new supplier this time, its a pedestal design and better quality.
Hope to get some pics tomorrow as my phone got squished yesterday, rolled over whilst it was in my jacket pocket.
Cheers - mike

Hi all
have just started a camper conversion on a 2010 Renault Trafic lwb hiroof.
She's going to be a 2/3 b3rth conversion and hopefully complete by the end of March.
She's an ex utility van so has been well maintained but been through the wars a bit.
Have spent the day removing all the dodgy wiring, the wonky racking and tonnes of assorted curse word.
The rear doors are the worst bit, the drivers side was fitted with a ladder so badly bent with people
climbing the ladder to get to the roof rack. The passenger side rear door was miles out of alignment,
so much that there was a gap at the top seal which was letting water in and the door where the hinge
mounts has cracked due to metal fatigue.
I should have the doors re-aligned tomorrow weather permitting plus I need to take the ply floor up as
it was bonded down but has come away in places. I may be able to re-use it if I can get it out ok.
I have also got to remove its tow bar and safety bar. I sometimes leave them on as a rear step but
this one looks like its been part of the Titanic. Not looking forwards to it as the bolts look very corroded and the bar/step must weigh 80kg at least.
Cheers - mike

Hi all got lucky with fitting the last window in the snow as its turned out fine. I was worried that the bonding would not take due to the very low temps but its taken fine. The new mirror arrived on Weds so that's now fitted along with the drivers side graphics. I have finished the kitchen unit now. I was not happy with the fit between it and the area below the window so have added a raised section. I have also added a switch for the water pump and one for a light above the kitchen area as it was a bit dark. There's not a lot left to do now, final bits on the electrics, fit the gas pipe, fit the two last ceiling panels and a few bits on lining carpet. The only big job is to swop the rattly dmf which is planned for next Tues. Cheers - mike
