I've just discovered this, I like the Dolly sprint. It looks like the repairs are being done correctly and the redtop is an interesting engine swap, it'll be good to see the build progress

in the early 2000's an uncle of mine had an accident on the M1. he was 92 with no Licence as he had grandfather rights and learned to drive whilst serving in the military. He was told he could drive again IF he got a licence which they thought would be a way of keeping him off the road.
He got 100% in his hazard perception and passed first time! He drove for another year before retiring from driving on his terms.

I've had the headrests for years but I prefer the seats without them - I just don't know how much they are as ebay prices are all over the place

That was a fun day out and I still can't believe it's taken 14 years to get that photo!

The safety devices cages are well made, is there anything else you need for the log book?

I have heard about the Volvo top mounts, that's interesting about the bearings though peteh1969 cortinaman I didn't realise they did that in the day, I had thought about the possibility of a rose jointed TCA but haven't gone any further with it. You have to love these old boys but they're getting harder to find! I think you're right thoughtcrimes, they drive fine as they are but I'm not hot lapping the ring every weekend!

cortinaman I'm also used to cars that are as comfortable as falling down stairs! I was going to go with originals as I have a refurbished set of top mounts but it took forever to get the bearings from the OC, these ones appeared on Ebay at the right time so figured I'd keep the originals as a back up. How far off is your front end?

When working on my loom I found my original headlight switch was on it's way out, a simple trial is to swap it with the heater switch as they are the same.
Do you still have your dash light switch (under the dash for turning off the dial lights). I also had a dodgy switch there, I just soldered the 2 wires together in the end as I can't think of a situation where I'd want to turn my dial bulbs off whilst having the rest of the lights on.

It's always a bit worrying dangling the engine over fresh paint! Good to see it went back in ok. I notice you've got solid top mounts - how do you find them on the road? Do you get a lot of noise/vibrations through them - I've pondered putting adjustable top mounts on mine to sort out the weird geometry, but worried about noise and vibration being solid mounted. I think I held my breath for the most part which isn't recommended! The solid mounts seem to be ok, I was worried about it bouncing around on the road given the poly bushes and the coilers but it's ironing out the road without it rattling me around! I bought the mounts off Ebay years ago, they have an altered offset to give 0.5 degrees negative camber but I haven't seen them for sale for a long time.

I had been waiting for this day for a long time and I'm a little surprised that it was track rod ends that let me down! To be fair though I bought them years ago and they've been on and off several times and moved from a few different spots! All happy and content with the world I found a great location to take some fancy photos and the benefit being it was silent on Sunday!

I finally had some time off this year and after a relaxing week in Anglesey I came back to something I knew had to happen but didn't want to do and that was remove the engine to sort some leaks! I had noticed the oil leak had gotten worse over the last few months and after trying to address this with the engine in position I desired enough was enough! The water pump had started to leak from the shaft and in a short space of time had made a huge mess of the inner wings. Having noticed the orange tint to the stains and the fact my block drain plug was blocked I thought I would remove the rear core plug which I'm glad I did as I then spent the next hour picking out this filth and flushing the block to remove as much of it as I possibly could. The crank etc looked to be ok and I couldn't see any big lumps of metal in the sump so there doesn't appear to have any problems which is nice. I think I've had this engine apart and back together far too much recently as I had gone from the engine on a stand to having the flywheel and clutch fitted and the whole lot thrown back into the cortina and running in 5 hours!

Congratulations on 2nd place!
I think a few battle scars suit rally cars but that's because I used to work with terrible drivers!

I'm just having a catch up and 96bhp isn't bad for the 1600 to say it was thrown together but having it running right is worth the dyne time, those rockers might help a bit though! I can't believe your audacity to park the Cortina in a parking space! Hopefully it'll get sorted quickly and easily - it happens to the best of us, I have to sort a dent on the bootlid as I decided to reverse into my vice!
The escort looks excellent and the van looks solid and perfect for collecting car parts and children!
