it has taken a whole day to get the transmission tunnel cover in and tidy. must have removed it 30 times to modify, trim and fit the poppers as you can't fit them all at once otherwise they wont align.
also fitted a LHD handbrake due to the RHD one is where your leg wants to rest and gets very uncomfortable after a while.

battery cover lid not trimmed yet as I need to make cut outs for the leads to pass through.
quite pleased with how it looks now though ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

chassis mounts finally finished. yes it took that long ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) . cut every one by hand then machined flat to varying thicknesses depending where it went. ![](http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t27/B0ZWELL/s800%202/DSCF6160_zpsk7x3xxat.jpg) ![](http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t27/B0ZWELL/s800%202/DSCF6159_zpsmhrn2hmf.jpg) so now onto other things one Perspex window fitted. and it still opens. went for gloss black as the norm is usually satin. I think the gloss works really well. ![](http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t27/B0ZWELL/s800%202/DSCF6158_zpslb3jcbwm.jpg) used trailer wiring for the rear lights as it makes it very easy to route through, and being LED there is no load so small wiring works fine

another big milestone. chassis powder coated and in.

just making all the mounts solid. the body used to be rubber mounted. 22 rubber mounts to be exact so it's taking a bit of time to cut and machine ally mount spacers.

it's nice to be able to bolt bits on permanently. roll cage powder coated and bolted in.
I shall have a switch for the LED rear fog so it'll come on with the brakes as a third light or permanently for fog.
i'm quite pleased with how the front arches have come out. quite subtle

this is the S2000 that's going to give up its engine and gearbox. 207,000 miles, only had 3 owners though and been looked after. engine is out of a later car so done a lot less miles. has adjustable suspension and a new roof, decent condition wheels etc.
will mot it and use for a few months before pulling it apart ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

just in the process of buying an S2000 to use for a couple of months then strip it for the engine and gearbox. ![](http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t27/B0ZWELL/s800%202/DSCF6074_zpsau800qnh.jpg) just trying to remember what needs to go back in which order. LH rear light bolts are hidden behind the fuel tank for example

well the race engines take a feed from the oil gallery side under the carburettors so remove one of the blanking plugs and drill and tap for a Banjo. make sure the feed pipe doesn't come into contact with the starter cable. aeroquip pipe will be fine for the feed and more reliable than the metal pipe which are known to split anyway.
there are aftermarket kits for the cam oil feed or source the nessasery connections and banjos.

there is a pipe that is plumbed into a gallery at the bottom of the block on the exhaust side at the bellhousing end. it then splits into two and goes to each camshaft at the back of the head. be carefull doing these bolts up as they can quit easily strip the thread out of the head.

from your description I would say fuel is boiling in the carbs. modern fuel can start to boil as low as 30 degrees C so will be a problem in stale hot air. as soon as you start moving the air in the engine bay will cool slightly.
a shield above the exhaust manifold may help so worth a try. venting the bonnet above or near the carbs may also help. a cold air feed blowing on the float bowls with a cheap inline boat fan (the sort that they try to sell as an electric supercharger) should keep the carbs cool when stationary.

some of these so called race rads don't work at low speeds. we had one made for a road GT40 and it kept overheating unless it was going over 70 mph. even high efficiency rad fans couldn't pull the air through the rad. put the original radiator back in and all was fine.
i suspect it'll be trial and error to see which works with your combination but a stsndard one would be my first choice. volume will be less important than cooling fin design (even Honda went with half size rads in their later cars)

Ive got 45s on my pinto But 40s are just as good depinding on engine size and rpm requirements. smaller carbs can work better than large carbs because air speed and fuel vapourisation play a huge part in power output. usually the biggest problem can be the wrong choice of carb and the wrong choice of venturie. a 36mm choke (venturie) will work better in a 45 than it will in a 40 even though it is avaiable for both sizes of carb. the venturie effect will work better with a larger difference. but then above a certain air requirement (large engine and/or high rpm) a 36mm choke would be too small to flow enough air. dellortos are weber copies with most of the weber problems ironed out.

i think there is a small confusion between trumpet and taperd. there was no measurable difference in air flow between a tapered or straight tube. the trumpet (curved bit on the end) is quite important. air does not go straight in from the front of the tube but also comes around from the back. there is a theory that a full radius trumpet works better than a part radius. also any race engine with a plenum the trumpet will go into the plenum where as road cars are usually just a flush runner for ease of making. and, a straight runner will flow better than a curved runner BUT a curved runner fitted for convenience to clear inner wings etc will benifit more for pulse tuning than a straight runner that is too short ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

the later MX5 with the variable valve timing doesn't bother with the dual length intake. valve timing has an affect on chosen length.
seems like a lot of work for probable very minium gains. you may find a long inlet length works well enough without the complications of varying the length. seems like a fun project to try to get it to work. there are some videos on utube with variable length trumpets working. anything under full throttle wont have an affect through length though, just where the butterfly is positioned may have some affect on ram tuning.
