Been looking at B5's lately, £2k won't get you near one, even the bottom of the pit are nearer £3k! Very nice cars though.

Difficult to balance the dog vs speed vs price, Great thread! Incredibly accurate lol! I fancy a nice 850/early V70 T5.

pulsar gtir = crazy fast and scary. I've written two off and I'm on my third in 7 years. 300bhp is easy to achieve and they're 4x4. Sub 5 seconds 0-60 with very little tinkering. Let me know when you get one and crash it I'll buy some bits off you Mr2 turbo = crazy fast too and subaru wrx or sti. Bit of tinkering and 300bhp will leave most things for dead... Completely different league to golf gti etc... Any Japanese 90's turbo car! A Pulsar for sub £2k?! It'd be a dog!

This has kind of lost the usefulness of a wheelbarrow though

Perhaps a little optimistic that you'd even find one, and with prices on the up you could probably only get a bit of a snotter for £2k, but a BX GTi is a rapid thing and if you find someone selling one who doesn't really know what they've got you could be on to a quick way to lose your license. Didn't know such a thing existed, that looks cool!

Seeing the other thread about a £500 budget, which would only pick up some rotters at best, I decided £2k is a far more realistic budget for some cheap laughs.
So, be it a standard car that's capable in its own right, or something that can be had for little that can be turned into a handful within the budget, what would you buy?
First one that popped into my head was a Saab 9000 with the 2.3 lump, can be had for under a grand, 3" down pipe + td04 + remap might be a stretch but would be a good 280bhp!

How about the 300ZX? Unable to scour ebay and autotrader atm as I'm on holiday lol. I had one of these to, z32 swb tt. Another car thats silly quick in a straight line, but it did try to kill me several times when the roads got even the slightest hint of rain lol Like the GTO is not as complicated to work on as you'd think and few places really know what they're doing when it comes to working on one. I'm so glad there's someone that loves these too, I cannot for the life of me fathom why people don't really "get" these cars! What about an R32/33 GTS-T? Driven both the R32 and R33 in GTR form, was VERY unimpressed to be honest. I'd always wanted an R32 and found it to be a very "numb" drive with very little feedback as a driver compared to my GTO. My friends R33 was pretty much the same in all honesty. The GTO is an immense car that i think suffers the same problem as RX7's in that they have a bad reputation for reliability from people that have never owned one or have owned a cheap one and suffered due to it. Back in the day they were considered top of the range almost supercars. Unfortunately they are now cheap enough for people to buy but they are still expensive to maintain and when people find out how much it costs to fix/service them they get passed on as a cheap price to someone who falls into the same trap of "thats a lot of car for the money" only to find our it'll cost ££££s to put right properly. at 20+ years old now wear and tear is taking its toll on them, I spent £2500 on mine last year on worn bushes, bearings, track rod ends etc last year for the MOT I don't care though because she now drives like new Having just got an insurance quote on a 3000GT, you may of just cost me some money Any chance you could PM me some details on them? Common issues etc? Sorry for clogging the thread up! I think the GTR's are loved purely for the lairy power that can be had from them, same as the Sierra Cosworths, not exactly renown for being a sublime riding car but infamous nonetheless!

Potential money pit? ABSOLUTELY!!! Not many garages know these cars well enough to be able to diagnose issues BUT parts are readily available, they aren't as hard to work as you'd imagine. I do most of the work on mine myself and I'd say I was confident with spannering. As for performance, there's not much out on the road that will keep up. 4wd and a TT engine is enough to be able to use all 280bhp in pretty much all conditions. The party piece for me is the torque though. Make no mistake these are silly quick cars capable of over 160mph.... buy a good one, chuck £3500 at the engine and say hello to a reliable 450bhp. They handle ok in stock form but the usual lowering or properly set up coilovers will make what is a big car feel like a small coupe. I love mine to death and use it daily, but at £95 for a tank of V-power which lasts around 280 miles mixed driving its not cheap. It'll do 400 miles to a tank on the motorway but it'll also empty it in less than 150 miles if you abuse the loud pedal. Cheap to buy, expensive to run and some bits can be expensive to fix. Worth every penny though when you feel/see how quick 60 then 100, 120, 140 appear up on the speedo......... I'm so glad there's someone that loves these too, I cannot for the life of me fathom why people don't really "get" these cars! What about an R32/33 GTS-T?

My god this is exactly what I was after a while back, manual too! I would get such grief for rocking up in this anywhere at my age!
Is it a 15G turbo? Or 16/18/19T?

The 2.4 straight 5 sounds awesome too! No no no no, if you're wanting 5 cylinders and a Volvo then there's only one letter that should be in front of the 5

Universe and all in it is 40 odd billion years old, you exist for a split second. Interesting number, where did you get that from?
