So after a really good clean (with Pink Stuff Paste ) I threw the wheels on I'm really pleased but they're going to need extended wheel studs which I've ordered. Also did the good old debadge: So next step is fitting the coilovers, which will be the best bit. Tom

So as previously mentioned, this car is just meant to be a stop gap. I also have an agreement with Mrs. Qwert that the daily stays standard. However I don't particularly want standard. Modified cars are pretty much my entire personality.....and I want people to know that . So I went, as I'm sure we all do when making a car purchase, to do some research. I found some quite cool Liana's: I also found this little snippet: So a plan was hatched. The car needed at least one if not two tyres. So I might as well fit wheels. Search about on FB Marketplace brought up a lot of dross and a few options. One in particular a couple of my mates and my brother thought would be good but I wasn't sure. I went and had a look anyway. They were better than described, came with useable tyres and two sets of centre caps: I also kinda went behind wor lasses back: Tom

So basically the Civic diesel I've had for the past 5 years is beginning to feel a bit tired. I've been promised a Mk7.5 Golf GTD from my Aunty and Uncle and have been trying to keep the Civic going until I get that. However they have decided to keep it for longer due to not using it much during the pandemic. So I needed a stop gap. I wanted something deeply boring, petrol, 40(ish)mpg and reliable, and slightly oddball so as not to be too dull. I had originally considered a Nissan Tiida but was steered away due to the unreliability of their engines. So the Daihatsu Materia and Yaris Verso was considered. Alas nothing within a suitable distance. Step in the Suzuki Liana. Really weird looking, reviews had such terms as "worryingly reliable" and "metronomically reliable" contained within them. Supposedly it'll do a combined 40mpg and there doesn't seem many of them "done". So here's what I got: 2007 1.6GL. Just under 65k, full MOT. 14 stamps in the service book. Little bit of cosmetic damage, needing a tyre and a buzzy exhaust all for £1k!

No they're for a Corolla, front bolt straight on rears need the top mounts swapping. Seems easy enough! The borbets will be an intriguing look. Can't wait to see it! I wasn't convinced that they would look that good, a but to "Euro" but I've stuck them on and they look pretty cool. Even at stock height. I did discover they have 195/40s on the front, which will deffo need to be replaced with 45s.

Ohhh yes. I'm glad I'm not the only one to cave to the collective retrorides peer pressure. Are the coilovers specific to the liana? That seems like a niche coilover! No they're for a Corolla, front bolt straight on rears need the top mounts swapping.

I just replaced the M12x1.25 studs of my suzuki wagon r+ with longer M12x1.5 studs, originally sold for hondas. I don't see a problem other than You need different nuts, too. But now that kevins mentioned that theoretical difference I wonder if the rather low torque of 85Nm is still enough? All my VWs were torqued with 110Nm. Since my torque wrench is a rather cheap one I used to give the standard nuts 100Nm anyway, so that might still be enough?!
I'll be honest and in the end I wussed out and ordered m12x1.25 ones.

In theory the finer pitch will give a higher clamp load and be less likely to come undone, in practice if other cars of the same weight and number of studs work with 1.5 mm pitch I can't see why it would be an issue. 👍 I can buy 20 m12x1.5 for basically the same price as 10 M12x1.25 so even with new nuts it's cheaper. It's a Suzuki Liana, so not that heavy or going to be thrown around particularly

I'm fitting some wheels to my stupid new daily. This necessitates fitting extended wheel studs. It currently has m12x1.25 studs. I have discovered that m12x1.5 studs are considerably cheaper and more readily available.
Will there be any issues with changing to M12x1.5 other than needing new nuts as well?

Thanks qwerty and vitesseefiFor the price we've all but agreed I don't think I can go to far wrong, the arms don't look too awful or expensive to do. Will keep an eye out for rattle on start up too I bought a kit to replace all of the arms in one go. It was a Febi Bilstein kit and I think it was about £130, instant peace of mind. Honestly they feel so well screwed together. I went from the Highlands of Scotland to the South of France in mine and it just soaked it up.

Front suspension Arms.
I also had to put a steering rack on my diesel one. Apart from that it was bulletproof and one of the best cars I've ever owned.

Well I'm going to view a Liana with 64k miles, full service history and one owner from new tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be as good as it looks.
Then on Saturday I'll pick up the wheels and order the coilovers 😁

I think I might go for a Daihatsu Materia instead, or possibly a Yaris Verso Tom Did I actually hear someone say Yaris Verso ! very useful little motors and handy for carrying Monkey Bikes I'll be honest that's half the appeal, it's like a really awkward looking van. In other news, I'm going to view some Lianas!

Best option of the lot! Especially if you can get it low enough to pull out cats eyes. It'll be a daily so probably only 35 or 40mm lowered. Is the MA16 engine decent enough?
