Good work. I can still remember spending hours under my frogeye one Christmas having to drill out the bolt/rivets that held the leaves together so that I could get the spring out almost leaf by leaf, after the holding nuts rounded....

Thanks so much for this update on your work - Well Done! It is amazing the engineering that went into this sort of device.

Hi Morris63 In fact the van started life as a 20t wooden bodied mineral wagon. But it was rebuilt with the van body and a steam boiler inside, with a fuel oil tank at one end and a water tank at the other. This was used to pre heat coaches when they were all heated by steam from the locomotive. When diesels came along, many had to have small boilers to heat the coaches! The coaches were then slowly converted to electrical heating. Here is an earlier picture of the van with its doors on.

For those who might want an unusual "Man Shed" we will be selling this.... The side doors were removed for safe movement along the line from Quorn. We are exchanging the wheelsets onto the Mineral wagon in front, then it will be sold "As Is". First offer over £1500 secures it.

We have continued our work on the ex ICI wagon, with most of the new floor welded in place and some of the side repairs being completed. We have also removed the floor on our next wagon!

I've got a 1098 cc 2" main bearing engine in mine, with a 731 cam and 2 x 2" SU carbs so period tuning! Mind you, a steady 75mph on the M1 at 5K from Leicester to Bradford was a bit wearing!

Thanks for that link about the front rails...I live and learn! I do now realise that my use of the Midget cross member and suspension for my drag racing BGT was wrong as it had straight flat bottom rails....but it would have been a different overall geometry, so it worked.

This picture was taken by another member of our team - Gavin Thomson. It highlights why we have spent 30 years working on rusty 16T mineral wagons!

Looking forward to following this . I am surprised about those front chassis rails though as both my Sprites seem to be flat bottom over the length of the car from a quick look.

Quite a bit more done on Wednesday with the final rusty steel cut off the bottom of the SW corner post. The underframe had more wire brushing, primering and undersealing.
